your problem with the Grandmasters album?
for any of you, is there any caveat with this album? not much here...i cant really pinpoint anything..i guess except for the fact that you have to really listen to each track or it will become monotonous...like if you just kind of casually have it on, the tracks begin to run together towards the end. but as long as it has your attention, its a good listen.
Re: your problem with the Grandmasters album?
It's dope, but GZA's flow isn't dope as before imo. But the album is really dope yo.
My opinion:
L.Swords 9/10
B.T.Surface 8/10
L.O.T.L.Swords 7/10
Grandmasters 8/10
Re: your problem with the Grandmasters album?
Muggs = amazing producer
Gza = amazing mc
so Muggs & Gza together should = amazing album right ?? nah, muggs beats sound standard, nuthin too special, Gza had the words but he just sounded bored shitless on everything, sounded like he just woke up on a couple.
to be honest, i havent really had a good listen to it, because it sounds boring to me, but if i listened hardcore to it, like the rest of this site here i'll probably find a couple on there thats good, but to tell more truth, i havent really liked any of Gza albums since Liquid Swords.
Re: your problem with the Grandmasters album?
PPL who are or are't wu-heads have 2 problems with this album
1st- they don't know it exists (non heads)
2nd- they would buy it was available in lets say Belgium
3rd- they are impatient and hate on DJ Muggs' beats
I personally hate it when i first listened to it
NOw it grew on me very quickly
Re: your problem with the Grandmasters album?
DJ muggs has been quoted several times saying he specifically made minimal beats. His goal was to showcase GZA's skills as an MC. If you are looking for sick beats, then this is not the album. DJ muggs was completely capable of making dope beats, but he chose not to to accentuate GZA's rhyme and storytelling skills
Re: your problem with the Grandmasters album?
One complaint is that the songs really do run together. Combined with GZA's rather monotonous flow on this one, the beats weren't hot enough to make any one song really stand out. Best track is #11 (Illusory ?'s), sounds like Liquid Swords because it's damn near a remix of one of L.S.'s songs.....
Re: your problem with the Grandmasters album?
I have it and really likes it.. but it's right there is no standout tracks but the cd is still dope..
I'll give it 8.5/10

i know this, but, u can make minimalistic beats that are still dope beats, these werent to me, and the fact that he left it minimal to accentuate gza skills was a let down, because for me gza didnt do that much of a good job showing his skills.
sorry if my opinion is the total opposite to everyone elses about this album, but, i'm very picky and i'm a hard man to please when it comes to hip hop these days.

Nigga Imagine If Hemade It More It Wouldve Been Filler
No 1 Wants Trash Filler
Re: your problem with the Grandmasters album?
This is a small complaint, but I didn't really like when Mugg's tried to use the sped up voices in his beats. I liked it on Exploitation of Mistakes, but thats it. The high pitch squealing almost ruins Unprotected Pieces, it doesnt sound cool at all.
But thats a minor complaint, i really love this album
