I have to be very honest about this topic. I'm stuck between the two for a reason but I have no children. The way I view it, family first but businesses want you to place your job before family.

Any one who chooses a job over family is fucked in the head
depends on how close you are to your family
if you are saying job or girlfriend evaluate your relationship
maybe keep in mind it's not that easy to find / keep a good job

Employment has a great power over people, especially the working poor. People getting let go because they got sick, a mother took ill, etc.
