why i can't get over it. Racism

why would you as white people encounter white racism? other than overhearing "nigger this or that" what else is there for you to observe? you're white.

i think an apology and reparations are in order. not to suggest that every black person get a check. i was thinking free college, no taxes, community revitalization, small biz grants, something along those lines.

you all act like this shit is old news, my PARENTS childhood was a segregated one, colored bathrooms waterfountains all that, my parents were in HIGHSCHOOL when theCIVIL RIGHTS ACT was passed. the fuckin law was barely ten years old when i was born.

my GRANDPARENTS are still alive and they tell me about their lives. my grandaddy is the son of a mississippi SHARECROPPER, grandson of a SLAVE. this shit is not ancient history.

my grandmother tells me about how she had to use backdoors and the unspoken rules of conduct when in the presence of a white person. if they are alive so are the people who oppressed them. and just like they taught me and my parents about "how white people are" the racist does the same.

you actually believe the opposition to the black struggle just disappeared ?

Reparations? Apologies? Well, I'll tell you like this. For a guy like me whose ancestors did not own a slave and worked for everything they got....don't bring it to me. Don't group me in with what the English did, because while its easy for you to group us all together, our cultures couldn't be more different.

it would come from the gov. which provided your ancestors with opportunities off the sweat of my ancestors free labor. see what you fail to understand is that america was this great land of opportunity and wealth because it was built on 200 years of free labor. and there was a perpetual lowerclass back for immigrants to stand on. otherwise your ancestor would have came here and been in the same peasant class they were at home.

what cosby fails to mention is that he came up by being an entertainer. just like the rappers he talks down to. he is so out of touch with the black community.

I got Romanian, Hungarian, Turkish, Slovak and Brazilian blood flowing through my veins
My family is predominantly Romanian, in this part of the world Romanians were under Hungarian occupation for almost 1000 years. Hungarians have tied my Romanian grandfather to a horse, with his head facing the ground and the horse was set free to run with my grandfather smashing his head to the ground at every step the horse made. This is as early history as black-white segregation.
Should I hate Hungarians for what they did? Oh wait .. I'm a bit Hungarian too, actually I live 8 km away from the border and 25% of my city's population is Hungarian.
If I take a minute, I come to the conclusion that every single bloodline heritage that I have has been harmed or hated by some other, and vice-versa.
Now tell me what should I do? Which side should I pick? Should I be judged because my skin is white? Or should I be judged because my father's skin is brown?
The only conclusion that I came to, is that racist people make the world worse, I can't stand conceited people who think that because of their ethnic heritage they have some sort of right to despise other people with other heritages.
I am a person who hated a lot and tries not to hate anymore. I understand hatred 100% and I definitely know it never helped me and probably won't help me in the future.

For your grandparents, what do they say about how things used to be for black people and the progress to date? Is it too slow? Not enough? Satisfactory? It didn't disappear as mentioned above, but how did it progress so far in the generations?

It also depends where you live....locally where I live black history is a little different.

my father spends alot of time in brazil and he tells me there is little or no racism there. its because its hard to hate someone who looks like your mother father or grandparent. everyone is so mixed that the lines are drawn across economics not race.

but being multiracial is not my or many black americans reality. and even the mulatto americans get hated on by blacks and whites.

but if a hungarian gave you a hard time, hungarian insulted you or even seriously wronged you, would you assume it's because you are romanian or no?

out of curiosity, how does one distinguish a romanian from a hungarian?

and what about vampires? should they hate yall for persecuting them for the past 1000 years?

my moms mother must have really had got it bad cause she has nothing good to say about whites. she doesn't like to talk about it but her father was beaten in front of her as a child and her family is not a stranger to the Klan. they are from Ohio.

my fathers parents are from mississippi, my granddaddy had his own housepainting biz and a firm believer in hard work but he had 9 kids and no aspirations for advancement. just to raise is family. which by todays standards is commendable. i think he had residual slave mentality. he is old old school, he taught me to look a man in the eye, firm handshake, live by your word type shit. he talks about racism like its a fact of life and teaches me how to maneuver around and thru it. but some parts of me want to face it head on with a grenade in hand and knife between my teeth.

i lived in the north and south and have found that though the south's racism is more extreme, they have reached an equilibrium that keeps the peace as long as black folks "know their place" once you step out of line then you get slapped back to reality.

in the north the racism is much more covert, which IMO is much more dangerous. you can see a housefire, and deal with it accordingly but carbon monoxide....

as to the progress, yes i can't front and let me be honest, my father has 4 degrees including a phd in EE and is now the VP of motorola. he lives a lifestyle that most rappers would aspire to. my father drives a porsche my mom drive a lexus. they came from one of the poorest detroit suburbs, inkster Michigan. i saw progress 1st hand. i remember living in an apt, to buying our 1st house to living in a million $ home in beijing china, to visiting them now in a $6 m home down the street from will and jada.

having said all that yall must think i'm full of shit right? but my dad doesn't wear a suit everyday or a sign that says "i'm a multimillionaire with a phd" so he gets the same treatment as joe blow bluecollar blackman gets on the street. the police are always pulling him over cause they feel if he has a 944 he must be doing something wrong.

and don't get me started on racism in the workplace. if you think its hard at the bottom of the totem. you can't imagine the bullshit he has to deal with at the top. he's been doublecrossed, backstabbed, trown under bus, scapegoated too many times to count. once he took a promotion only to find out a year later he was the axeman and would have to fire everyone and close the facility.

for 10 years my dad worked for a man who didn't even have a college degree.

thats why ive lived so many places (11 states and asia) whenever there was an opportunity we went for it. it was always like "yeah george we got a promotion for you but...you'll have to work in germany 2 week out of everymonth...you'll have to live in china...or live in a backwards country town in southcarolina"

my dad taught me that i must be 3times as qualified and productive to get the same opps, compensation, respect as my white counterparts.

progress....yes and no. the progress is that there are paths to economic gain, when there used to be very few, but the path is narrow and perilous.
the progress is not consistant.

i'm not content with just being wealthy.

1. I wouldn't think a Hungarian did that just because I'm predominantly Romanian, but it did happen vice-versa (a Hungarian to think that he was wronged by me because of him being Hungarian) when there was absolutely no intent.

I think the only reason people from the Balkans would hate Turks is because of history. The Ottoman Empire tried to conquer the Balkans since like forever. Personally I think the people's attitude that you spoke about is ridiculous and infantile.
I'm ok with about everybody .. I mean that for real ... that includes Turks. When I was little, my father traveled a lot to Istanbul for commerce and he spoke to me about Istanbul with admiration. He said Turks are respectful and trustworthy people, and Arabs the same.

Every American Citizen gets these rights. If you go to school.. get good grades.. I think you've gotta shot at free college and from there all the other shit can eventually fall in to place. It of course can be and liklely will be a tougher road for poor(lower class), and lower-middle class America to get to that point but if you can, there's more than likely a great chance you can get Financial Aide or a Sallie Mae Loan if you're a good student in High School.

I thought there would be less racism when you get higher up when you are so specialized that only you can perform a certain task that nobody else can.

Those midwest states I have been through, contrasting in other places in North America there is a lot of segregation and how you mentioned, covert. I never been in the southern areas but I would imagine they would be as you described.

After being in those places, it is easier to see how no one can get over anything. Those (white) people that say things should be gotten over just likely haven't at least witnessed the states some regions are in since its harder to "experience" anything.
