You can't use the analog sticks for this game, I think that's the reason they didn't put them on it.

just blows my mind that playstation 1 had only d-pad - ha!

I don't know what d-pad is but after a while they released controllers with analog sticks.

d-pad is a 'directional pad' its that cross looking thing on the left hand sind, both controlers still rock them, but only having the d-pad on the mega-drive and super nes (and playstation ( 1995 fuckin hell)) left you with a sore thumb after playing games like mortal kombat for 4 hours straight.
