unexpected but too many features

If this is anything like The Saga Continues this is great news. I’m still bumping that album. In fact it probably gets more play than any other Wu album.

Underwhelming tracklist and definitely not what I would deem an official Wu album, also because it isn’t, but that’s besides the point. Saga Continues also wasn’t for that matter to me, even if it was released as such.

Some tracks I look forward to but judging from this list, Ghostface didn’t record anything new, Method Man even though he’s quoted only is 1 new track with Wu members, GZA of course only track though will be his first official verse in years - if he doesn’t recycle his Dark Matter lyrics or just phones it in - Cappadonna on a lot and given his shitty lyrics and out of breath vocals I don’t see that as a positive, Raekwon luckily on quite some tracks and Inspectah Deck on 3 bodes well.

I definitely don’t rule out it’s a banger, but I doubt it. To end on a positive note, at least it has GZA, it has all nine members, GZA finally on a track with Deck again save that Logic track but this is different - last time was on ABT - and some titles of tracks do have potential.

Oops forgot to read, this is all material from the Saga Continues sessions. Guess that’s actually a positive since Cappa could still breathe, that track with him and GZA back then was good so fingers crossed on GZA having original lyrics on there. That being said, is anything truly new then or all remixed songs basically?

I think what they are saying is this is the second album in what they are labeling TSC Collection, with TSC being the first album in the collection.

“Too many features” and “underwhelming”? Damn u guys are never satisfied. If this is new verses/material this is wild to me that Wu fans would not be happy with a tracklist like this. Peace

It can never be a proper Wu album though with so little features from some of the main guys in Ghost & Meth, random tracks with one Wu guy and a bunch of features and not a single track with more than 4 Wu members. There’s always a track with all members as well. So they can sell this as an official album all they want, but all signs point towards just a collection of already recorded tracks and some new ones. Random intro with Kurupt, I mean what it is that supposed to be…also only 12 tracks, feels like they had to work hard to even get to that number.

Okay so let’s be honest for two seconds here and break it down:

1. An intro, even with Kurupt, that’s still just talking.

2. The only track with more than 3 Wu members, so potentially the best.

3. A U-God & RZA track that was likely intentioned for their own project, still might, so nothing new specifically for this project. Kool G. Rap

4. Not a new track, though likely remixed since Mathematics is going for a particular sound.

5. Martial arts movie title, definitely hyped for this.

6. Same as above, just hope Cappa doesn’t ruin it with his inability to rap properly lately and random ass stupid shit he raps about.

7. Intriguing for sure, I like this duo.

8. Random 1 Wu member with a feature.

9. Random 1 Wu member with a feature.

10. ⁠Could be cool

Conclusion: some solid features but most old as fuck who are no longer on top of their game. I would’ve been way more hyped for some features by Boot Camp Click members for example who are still bringing it at their age, for example. As far as the “underwhelming” part, there’s too many 1 member tracks and tracks not recorded for this project to warrant an official new album to me.

I see 6 potentially new solid group tracks and 1 solid remix (Claudine). And that’s half of them being duos, not one with more than 4 guys and not the usual all members track. That’s not a lot when you announce a new official Wu album to me. If it is to you, then cool, but it’s perfectly fine for people to be “underwhelmed” by this announcement. It’s been 8 years since the last underwhelming The Saga Continues and 11 years since the last proper Wu album.

Also by the sound of it, Mathematics is going for atmosphering, cinematic soundscapes. This could potentially be a very interesting sound, but could also very different. I look forward to hearing it, do not get me wrong, but as a Wu album, just not much there.

My only beef would be it’s realistically just a handful of tracks. Definitely looking forward to hearing WTK and RJ on same track with RZA. Hopefully he actually has a verse. Peace

Guess CDs are no longer interesting. Gotta say, to end on a positive note, the handful of tracks have the potential to be the best songs they’ve done in 10 years together as I’m a sucker for martial arts movies as titles and the album covers are all sick! Definitely using it for own version of this album, which likely will cover songs from 2021-2025.

I was initially going to say the bonus part could mean it’s an old track remixed, so hope not, but if it’s the original in better quality then let’s go.

The chorus has "Hold your head, sorta like Wu vs. Llama” so yeah, 99% sure it’s that track. Sounds like a much better title as well and definitely feels that probably could’ve and would’ve been the original title.

Its a record store day release . Hope to grab a copy when its out.

First off, bit of an odd release thing. Only 5,000 vinyls, each with their own sort of variant of the cover. Artistically, you'd think you'd settle for one design. Instead you just throw out a whole bunch, probably made with the help of AI, so noone has the same, but noone has them all. A collectors nightmare. With Wu-Massacre you could atleast collect all three. (Why the hell did they never take a page from the Pokémon book. One unique thing to each version.)

Now it also will only be sold on RSD, and only on vinyl. Just completely ignoring the CD market for them as legacy artist. But it will be available on the DSP's. Though which remains to be seen. I got a hard time believing this is going to end up on BC. Though I wonder if it will end up on Spotify, or if they dare to block them.

U-God & RZA on a track together would have just been complete to me, after the announcement of RZA. So Kool G Rap feels a bit out of place. Be it that we have not heard anything of the acual project yet, and I am basing this on that demo RZA played.

Like the rest said, the tracklist also feels filled to the brim with outside features that somehow do not feel organic. The oddest one might be to have Kurupt do an intro to a Wu album.

Shit. I did not even think of it that way. Don't get me wrong, AI can be very helpful. But it is anything but original. The first design I can see in detail, as posted, just tells me nothing from a design point. Even if someone was using this as concept art for something, what the hell would that be? What is the USP of that project, why was this visual style chosing? Are we going into a Game Of Thrones world with dragons? While the title is a reference to a Blaxploitation film, and a Shaw Bros. flick. Someone did not make up their mind. They could have taken a page from the JPEG & Danny Brown collabo that take a nice page from the Blaxploitation covers. fuck. If you get both titles in there, just hire someone to do a combo of a Blaxploitation Wu cover together with Shaw Bros. Hire someone to do that. Shit, by this point even a Ghananian film poster like cover would be better than this. It would even help out with the placement of logo's and text.

I hope the money was good for the cover. Bet they got a deal to use/promote the tech. So far it is anything but iconic.

Just look at the overall picture. Colors, font, placing of the text, everything works together. reminds me of all the things they did with Mafia 3.

I don't know shit about record store day, but in the past 12 months i've bought almost the entire clan discography on Vinyl. How can I ensure my best odds to cop this?

JZA, u got a local record store near u? If so I would call them before the release and see if they will carry it. Peace

RSD is basically all focused on your local record stores. They would get some in. If you have one, reach out to them to see if they know what they will carry. Sometimes the records all end up on websites. In Europe you can sometimes also find it on HHV, which has a physical store in Berlin that hold events.

I’m sure somebody on Discogs will have a copy for sale.
