Out of any Wu-fam album debate of "which is the best fam solo?", you better believe that Heavy Mental will be mentioned. Some hip hop critics would catigorize this album as one of the best lyrical albums in hip hop with "dense with religious imagery and filled with evocative sounds"(wutangcorp.com discography).
If I remember correctly, this album is certified gold.
The success of this album may be one of the reason why Killah Priest is one of the most widely known and possibly popular wu fam members (of course some would say Cap)
Anyway.....I rate this album 10/10. And Im not even the type of person that would give a 10 to every Wu album before 1997.

Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
Lyrics, lyrics, and more lyrics. I don't think many people who listen to this album are gonna understand it, because 90% of the stuff is over peoples heads. This album is way too ahead of it's time. Take Killah Priest, and insert some of the most knowledgeable lyrics ever, combine that with True Master and 4th Disciple on the boards, and something totally original and unheard of comes out. There are many classic songs on this album. This isn't a classic to me, but it's 9.5/10. Go pick it up this album is so amazing.

Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental

Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
Priests best effort. A really classic album. It goes from Gorgeous to a fucking tyrannosaurus. I love those Movie quotes dunno from which movie, about Judas betraying Christ. Really well planned album, production is good and Priest is outstanding lyrically
-
Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental

Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
One of the best albums ever released lyrically.I didin't like it at first as it went over my head and just seemed a little 2 abstract 2 me but after multiple listens i can appreciate it 4 the master piece it is
-
Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
not one of my favorite wu cd's, killah priest is a nice lyricist but his flow has that sleep-inducing effect, the hardest i heard him spit was on no said date
-

Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
not only best wu fam but one of the best wu albums. The only one I'd put on the same level is Wu Forever. It's all about the education.
-
Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
10/10 Best Wu album ever hands down (and he's Wu Fam). From start to end it is a hip hop massacre. No doubt Priests a fucken lyrical madman. Buy it...
I cant take it, Beauty that was once sacred
is getting face lifts, fake tits & fake lips,
cold embraces, memory erases, from the slave ships
my princess, used to spot her from a distance,
holding my infant, burning incense,
moment intent, for her to step into my wife tents,
now we step in pre-sents, for your ebony prince, the smell of frankincense
was once treated like a pharaoh, with royal apparel,
anointed with myrrh and aloe,
we used to wallow, amongst the mallow,
we had herds of sheep and cattle, now we battle
used to pass over the brooks of Qeron,
towers of Lebanon and the pools of Yechuan
we used to sing songs, upon, Mt Hebron,
how is gold turned to bronze, how is gold turned to bronze
we was the wisest and the richest, now we turn to snitches,
women turn to bitches, in the time of harvest
we was the smartest, worshipped wisdom like a goddess,
now we act retarded, forsook the wisdom of the fathers,
we used to have 1000 flaggons of wine, in Palestine.
now we sip Ballentyne, and raise up in the violent mind
we used to have 100 measures of oil, 80 measures of wheat and barley,
we lived godly, listening to Bob Marley,
until the devils robbed me, chasing us through the African Safari

Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
^^^ Love that verse
Dope Album. I'd give it a 8.5/10. The first half of the album is just amazing, some of the best lyrics you'll ever hear. I think it falls off just a little bit towards the end, it is a must have.

Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
word word and word...
Best album Besides Grandmasters to come out after Wu-tang Forever...
i think "If you don't know" is the GREATEST song EVER made til this day by any producer of Wu-tang...which means True Master is the fucking GREATEST....
i've never heard such good beats...Killah Priest is far from my favorite rapper, but putting an album together properly is 3/4 of what being an artist is all about, and he got himself one of the best albums...the other 1/4 of being an artist is stickin-dick-in groupies...

Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
this is the only wu-fam joint i think comes anywhere close to matching the first round of wu solo albums. its better than any wu album after forever except supreme clientele. great album to smoke to- just sit back, nod ya head and take in the poetics. "from then till now" is one of my favorite songs ever
-
Re: Killah Priest - Heavy Mental
word, word, word and work.
Can't agree the more with you guys this is surely a must have for every true wu-head.
I say it is a classic better than a couple of wu-member albums, lyricallly and beat wise it's dope....and please listen to the lyrics cause it's very educative.

What can I say more? It's a classic and one of the best LP's ever, not only in Wu catalogue. Wisdom. wisdom, wisdom... plus sick beats, what do you want more? If You Don't Know is one of the illest tracks ever:clap: But songs like One Step, Cross My Heart, Tai Chi or From Then Til Now are classics too.
