The Death Of Stalin - This shit was brutal, a funny take on this moment on russian history. Really dark and thought provoking, Steve Buscemi as Nikita Kruschev especially was great.

it comes at night. i fell asleep 12 times.
and now i've also watched...
gone with the wind
lawrence of arabia
the graduate
singin in the rain
midnight cowboy
the last picture show
tootsie
network
an american in paris
mutiny on the bounty
a streetcar named desire
most of these movies had decent parts and acting, but nothing was spectacular deserving of a top 100 film of all time nomination. mutiny on the bounty was probably the best of the bunch.
i also tried watching these movies, but couldn't get through them. they were awful.
bonnie and clyde
mr smith goes to washington
giant
the african queen
some like it hot
my conclusion is basically up until around 1970, cinema sucked.
^ Lol, you sound like every girlfriend I've ever had when I suggested watching an old movie, although the cutoff for most of them is any film from before they were born. Philistines.
You take girls on dates to see old movies? Why don’t you just not take a bath like Noel to ensure you won’t get laid?
Usually the problem was them being closed minded about it, but after they actually watch James Stewart chat to an imaginary 6 ft rabbit, they're ready to fuck.
A documentary on Donny Hathaway. They talked to his brother and sisters, to Mtume (he produced many of his records), a record exec, Roberta Flack too.
I was only familiar with a few singles, I was blown away by some of the songs played in the documentary.
Also, I didn't know he turned into a paranoid schizophrenic. The documentary makes it out to have started when he was told he could not put his signing money in the bank. Seemingly it was hard to explain to him the money was meant for an album, promo and a tour. People in the record industry who knew him think this is where he got his first shock.
I had no idea he jumped out of a hotel window (16th floor) after a recording session with Roberta Flack for a joint comeback album.

a few interviewees referred to his eyes in this earlier album cover pic (not the proposed comeback album) saying how they could see in what a bad state he was
stress of recording, touring etc
very good documentary. I might by some of his albums or a comp later this year.
his first shock? ect?
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood - I love this on second viewing way more. It's so beautiful and slow (I think it's a good thing with this one)
thought once upon a time in hollywood was fucking... not good. so no way in hell would i warrant another 2 hrs and 40 minutes of my life to re watch something that has no replay value whatsoever imo.
and as for old movies Sunset Boulevard is actually a pretty good watch, think its from the 50's. i watched that flick and then fucked my gf fyi in case anyone was wondering.
i mainly posted in this thread to say that black chick a few posts above me is fucking horrible looking/scary. because mostly everything i have watched recently has been hot garbage except for The Lighthouse.
I really liked once upon a time in Hollywood. Can’t wait to see it a second time.
Sunset Boulevard is on my list to watch
To me, it's one of Tarantino's best. Second only to Jackie Brown. Sunset Blvd is a good one.
I saw Ad Astra the other day. I thought it was solid, the visuals and world building were well done but the story was kind of bland. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for it.
Waves (2019) - Stylishly directed drama from A24. I found it hypnotic, moving and really well acted.
i think the story for Ad Astra was supposed to be bland, at least the main Brad Pitt/Tommy Lee story. didnt mind the film, wasnt stellar or anything. wasnt bad either.
ive also watched
Knives Out - not bad, saw it in theaters
Murder on the Orient Express - also not bad, watched because ive been interested in mystery movies.
The Grand Budapest Hotel - thought it was supposed to be a mystery. didnt like it as it wasnt my type of movie. expertly shot though, really unique atmosphere.
Wonder Woman (2017) - didnt like it
The Green Inferno (on netflix, Eli Roth directed, based off the Cannibal Holocaust, i assume) - didnt like it
The Bad Batch (on netflix) - didnt like it at all, fell asleep.
13 Sins (on netflix) - didnt like it at all reminded me of a cheap horror/'thriller' flick with a kinda similar basis to...
The Game (on netflix with Michael Douglas) - seen a while ago, mention because of watching the above mentioned and because this one was actually good
Hereditary - didnt like it, main actress annoying as fuck
Midsommar - didnt like it, main actress annoying as fuck. huge turn off on both films. also both produced by same director.
The VVitch - went in off the strength of The Lighthouse. didnt like it, grew no interests for the characters or story. didnt like the period, dare i say... boring
Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez (netflix) - already was familiar with a lot of it, but was a good watch nonetheless.
Dont Fuck with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (netflix) - fuckin lolz. these people are fucking comical IDIOTS. guess it was an okay watch, didnt feel wasted.
Evil Genius (netflix) - watched when it came out but this is grade a shit. happened in the city i live in. learned a few things i didnt know before.
