No that has nothing to do with it...
I listened to Biggie...some of my mates hold him as THE GREATEST...
When they brought me in on him **crickets**
I really was surprised how not good he was, compared to what I thought I was gonna hear.
Your correct in the sense many people who prefer underground Emcees
Might not like him as much, but please don't say "people don't understand the music"
There are such things as taste and being cut from a different cloth...
This shoiuldn't mean people can't comprhend the album or the music.
I like the album as you said it has a concept...
But as an Emcee...I think Biggie is EXTREAMLY overrated.
Why are you so infactuated with people liking Undergroiund Emcees Hollow ?
And why do you think it's a bad thing ?
Yes, I most certainly do...
And I find it very interesting how many people have Holocaust on their mind.
Comparing & mentioning Warcloud when this is all about Biggie,(the great Biggie)
I find this very amussing.
Beautifulrock....your head is getting rather large.
Firstly...
Don't try and speak about what The Holocaust says, especially when you have no clue
Oh...I get it you'd rather listen to a rapper who sounds and says everything that everyone else is saying, have fun.
Secondly...
Please learn to swith the scenario around once in a while.
Biggie can't speak about the things Holocaust does...his imagination simply isn't up to par.
Real problems ? Oh so (just like so many)
He's talking about selling crack, guns and bitches...Wow...he's REAL imaginative...
Those are subjects are due to where he lived and what time he created the album.
Nothing to do with his actual talent,
Which lies in his wordplay, and this was really his main asset.
Warcloud ran through that chamber and then explored different avenues.
I said to GFX the other day...I wonder if Biggie would have continued in that rhyme pattern
As Holocaust said it was getting too easy and became bored of it.
I'm talking about the Silkworm style.
^^Yeah, Hollow Darts got a REAL problem with people likein underground rap. Hes got a wack opinion on music in general, but thinks hes 100% correct.
^no he doesnt he can just seperate the real from the fake, unlike you backpackin niggas
gtfo.........lol you have no idea. Hollows right, you dont understand him. I dont expect you to, you like Holocaust. The definition of a rapper = Biggie. Biggies lyrics were ill, but it was about more than that, the way he said it, his personality on the mic. If you dont know that already though you never will.
no idea. im not gonna say anymore to u.
I'm gald...you think Lil' Wayne is dope...so by your own way of thinking-
I never expected you to understand me.
And no Hollow is not right, I understand the concept and what he was speaking of...
Your just so closed minded that people who don't agree with the majority
Are wrong...when that is simply bullshit.
Some people said that "The Dark Nght" was overrated and too long
Are they wrong for saying this ?
I personally think it's one of the best films I've seen...but I, unlike you...
Have the ability to respect others opinions.
Like I said his wordplay is dope...just because I don't think his-
personality, delivery, voice ect...
Is on the same level, doen't mean I don't know what you talking about...
It simply means I have my own mind and way of thinking.
Defintion of an Emcee = Holocaust
You can keep your rappers.
hahhahahahah what a fag.
and you dont even know biggie. have you even listened to hiim? You got it all mixed around, his wasnt known for fucking "wordplay" as you put it, he was known for his delivery and his voice you faggot.
But you wouldnt know ANYTHING about delivery or rhyming to a beat with RYHTEM, becaused you listen to fuckign Holocasut, who does non of this, he just spits written lines out like a robot with no rhythem.
youre trying to be clever by "not agreeing with the majority"? Because youre not fool, YOURE the one who is being close minded, no one else. YOU ARE CLOSE MINDED to your gay fag rap.
lol @ all you faggots saying Ready To Die is overrated, up until you heard the original versions of songs you probably placed this album somewhere in ya top 10 all time favourites, then you heard the original versions of songs & now you hate on the original released version, you're some stupid fucks you know that right ?? Illmatic is overrated because the original versions of them songs are better than what was released, 36 Chambers is overrated cos the demo tracks are so much better.........theres reasons why the original versions did'nt make it to the album......one of which (and anybody that makes music should agree) is the fact that, if it takes so long to make an album, certain songs/beats are evntually gonna get tired to the artist &/or producers, before the album is finished, but they might like the lyrics, so they either remix the track or re-do the track, money also does come into it, & samples cost a hell of alot of it, sometimes samples can't be cleared - meaning, you can not release it, so a new beat has to be made - and that is fact.....which is possibly one of the reasons for Cuban Linx 2 taking so fucking long - you can release those tracks for free but you can't sell them........you non-music making dudes probably wont understand this, but there is a politics to the music "industry" - industry means its a business, lots of money to be made, BUT why spend a million if you can't garauntee it'll make a million ?? for the love of making music ?? fuck that, if you made music "for the love" you would'nt sell it, you'd give it away for free, or as cheap as possible to cover costs.....but seen as how its a "business", you have to make money, otherwise you become obsolete..
end of the day, the version of Ready To Die that i went out & bought on vinyl & cd in 1994, is a fucking classic album and in no way overrated, if the original versions (which i've not heard apart from maybe 2 songs) is so much better, only reinforces the original releases classic status...
if anybody has the original versions, please could you hit me up with it, because i'd really love to hear it, peace.
ps
Life After Death is also a classic in my opinion.....AND....from listening to Ready To Die, the only "bitch" tracks are Me & My Bitch, Big Poppa, One More Chance & Friend Of Mine, and they're more like Pimp/Sex tracks.
this proves the amount of crack cocaine that goes into your system is immense......Biggie is one of the greatest MCs ever, and i speak from 24 years of listening to & analysing hip hop & mc's, Biggie is one of the "FEW" mc's that prove skills can sell, his delivery, his wordplay, his cadence, his personality, his character, are all part of the reason he sold so many records, he may have made a couple of mistakes beatwise - in our hip hop purist opinions - but HE obviously enjoyed & like the music he made, which as an artist myself, is more important than what you think, from hardcore, to commercial, to thugs, to backpackers, Biggie got the most love and still does.
and you call Holocaust the definition of what an mc is ?? when he's struggling like fuck to make an album, he could only sell to trippy drug users & wannabe hip hop purists such as yourself, who think "i cant understand a word he says, and he only appeals to a few, its art".....even on a Wu Tang forum he gets next to no love, and he's Wu tang (apparently), dont get me wrong, i like Holocaust - but then again i'm an occasional trippy drug user, i could'nt listen to him when i'm weeded....
Who's head is big? This is the guy who takes 4 weeks to write one 12 bar verse, then wallows in his own self-gratification when he releases it. Fool, you ain't nothin' but a wannabe, get that straight. Second, if you grew up on Biggie, and lived in this country, you would know how great he was. But you are listening to the album over 13 years after the fact, and are breaking it down into stereotypes, which is what Biggie himself said would happen.
"Stereotypes of a black male misunderstood, and it's still all good."
Dude, was a genius, one of the best to ever do it. You slander his name by even speaking it. Stick to your amusing metaphors that you believe to be ingeniously creative, even though I've heard most of them before elsewhere, that's what you're good at. Because honestly, I don't think you even have the right frame of mind to even judge a legend like Biggie.
and just to add on... I'm not saying Puffy is the greatest judge of talent, but when he found Biggie, he was looking for the next LL Cool J, an attractive male rapper that could be viewed as a sex symbol in popular rap culture. Now, how ANTI is Biggie to that description? For him to have succeeded and made Puff even look his way, he had to be incredible, which is what he is.
and Whers, Biggie was known for his flow and delivery, not his wordplay you numbnuts. Stick to stuff you know, shitty underground rappers that rhyme about warlocks and dragons and change their name every three months because they are suffering from a crisis of identity.
Firstly of course I've listened to Biggie you idiot, why else would I be in this thread ?
Wow...now I'm a fag for speaking my mind ?
You really got me there...ouch !
Why does it bother you that I like his wordplay more than his delivery ?
I've heard plenty of Biggie to stand by my words and to be honest
Your opinion means nothing to me, as I'm sure mine doesn't mean anything to you.
But sharpen your sword you litle bitch, calling me a fag because I don't agree with you.
I said nothing about the album in question.
Only that as an Emcee I belive Biggie is overated.
Secondly...I couldn't give a fuck "what he was known for"
The only thing I really like about Biggie is his wordplay...
No amount of your wack insults are gonna change that.
You have no say in what I think of an artist...
No matter how many claim his delivery was his asset, my opinion isn't gonna change
And that is simply because I have formed my opinion from listening to him
(GHOSTLACED seems to have other means of forming his)
Did it ever cross your mind that I might actually like other aspects of him ?
Things that he apparently wasn't given as much credit for ?
Ask anyone who knows the slightest about me and you will know-
That I'm not closed minded...
I listen to a wide range of Emcees but I don't need to prove anything to you.
Hahaha...How am I trying to be clever ? you never went into detail there (I wonder why)
Just becuase I can form my own opinion ?
And not agree with what others are saying, and back it up ?
As for Holocaust...You really are dumb if you think he is the only artist I listen to...
(your out of bullets)
And you of all people should understand that point......
Being Lil' Wayne's number one fan. smh
Try and forget about Holocaust for a sec (I know it's hard for you)
And try and stick to the topic at hand please.
Think that I'm closed minded all you want, it really doesn't mean jack shit
When it's the furthest from the truth.
For example how can I be closed minded when I do listen to Holocaust ?
Especially since he has switched up his style on numerous occasions...you don't have a clue.
Please, in future actually think before you type...it would save alot of time.
Thanks.
I think you're wrong on this Whers, i think you should listen closer to "Ready to Die" because that's definitely not the ordinary shit that the average street rapper spit with gloss. Biggie poured his fucking heart over that album; he said things that everyone was scared to say but many feel and he said it on a platinum selling album... he didn't glorify the street life for the most part, you should go back and listen again
"I don't wanna live no more, sometimes I hear death knockin' at my door.... Another day, another drug to juggle".
"Fuck the world, fuck my moms, fuck my girl.... I'M READY TO DIE"
"My momma got cancer in her breast - don't ask me why i'm motherfucking stressed"
..he even made the closing song about how much he hate himself and wanna commit suicide. this is also mixed with the more happy times for him in songs like "Juicy" and "Me & My Bitch" - like all persons a life got heavy ups and downs and he covered the whole spectra on that album... A even sharper version of what Eminem did with "Marshall Mathers LP" which I know you love. This is an extremely complex album by a man that was torn apart between the glamour and street life and showed his very humorous side ("the first time I saw you, you looked so good i'll suck on your daddy's dick) together with the hatred he sometime felt for himself and his life.
I don't know why Holocaust always has to get mixed up in the thread from someone when you state your opinion but since it's already been touched on I gotta say that Holocaust is so far away from Biggie as an MC in any spectrum but I definitely respect your opinion though.... for me "Ready to Die" is prolly in a top-5 hip-hop albums of all time.
peace
I have made it abundantly clear that rapping is not my forte...
And I don't wallow in his own self-gratification, far from it...
I'm just glad people take the time to read it.
And I belive you yourself said to me "Your The MVP"
I am not a wannabe (assuming your still talking about rhymes)
I could drop the pen tomorrow, it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference to me.
This is a forum...opinions are given.
But...if you'd rather all be holding hands running in circles all saying the same thing...
Then please, I'll leave to lot to it.
Oh and sorry I wasn't born in your country.
And wasn't born at the right time to appreciate the album in all it's glory...
Please read through my posts, I have said nothing bad about the album at hand
Only about Biggie himself, as an artist...
You make it seem like your not allowed to say he isn't actually that good ?
I mean how does your opinion hold more weight than mine ?
Why are you right and I'm wrong ?
You think of Holocaust how I think of Biggie...get over it already.
I thought you were better than this brock ?
Like I said to GHOSTLACED...I hear great wordplay...his delivery is alright
But I think Tupac & Eminem for starters have better deliveries.
I would rather listen to Canibus than LL...so I think that speaks for itself.
So I think I'll take your advice brock...simply not being from your country...
I clearly have no clue or concept of "Real Rappers" for that I am sorry.
I'll gladly stick to those "Shitty Underground Rappers"
The ones who are for the love of the art
Those who speak on other subjects other than bluntz, 40's & bitches.
Who actually show mic skills and belive it or not mr rock...
Have a wide range of subject matter.
