why is everyone acting like this won't be available for sale to the general public? did i miss something in the article. i thought they said the music would be on a museum tour, then sold to someone, possibly a record company, that would then make the music available to the fans.
You make some good points Art, and some points I also completely disagree with.
I know for me personally, I want to listen to music on my own terms and in my own way. I am in my 30's (37 to be exact) and it's not that I can't afford to spend the $50 to listen to it, it's just that it doesn't make much sense to do so and then not be able to enjoy it again.
Also as someone in their 30s, the older you get the more responsibilities you have in life as well (hopefully anyway)....for me personally, I'm listening to music on the LIRR to and from work each day, with my headphones, kinda getting lost in the music and escaping from day to day shit. So now that's taken away from me. Now I have to take 2 hours out of my day, when they tell me too, to listen to an album once, in public. And as someone with other things going on, the "Extras" which will keep me in some museum even longer don't really have an appeal for me.
Sorry but after 2 hours of listening to an album in public, I have no desire to sit in on an Q&A with Shabazz or whoever shows up.
Hopefully ultimately it ends up on my ipod somehow...until then life goes on, with or without this double cd.

Once they sell this album....that person/group/whoever has the right to do whatever they wish with it I assume. One "possibility" is that it gets shared to the masses, but there's no guarantee of that.

I think someone brought the Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol work. its not a good comparison cause that music was released already, so it worked hand in hand with the artwork. this is forcing you to see unreleased music as timeless art.
so, maybe it is a grand idea but in my eyes its all backwards. clearly these days people don't like dealing with unknowns
IF it is indeed going to be available for DL purchase or physical purchase at a later date, then the whole Museum thing makes even less sense to me (which I'm not surprised about).
If you were going to sell this as "this is your one and only opportunity to listen to a rare work from the Wu" before it gets sold to the highest bidder for their private collection then I could see the Museum angle. B/c then you created this type of desperate/urgency for fans to spend $50 for the opportunity to at least hear it once before they can never listen to it again.
But if they are saying, spend $50 now to listen to it once...and then down the line (months, years?) once the tour is over and it's sold it'll be available for purchase somehow then what's the point in listening to it for $50? Wouldn't you just wait until you can purchase it?
Again it's not an affordability issue...I just don't see how that makes any sense? $50 for one listen and then the purchase price, whatever that is, at some later date?

b) I think the idea has a flaw in it. Who is really going to go see a tour where you don't even know the songs that would be playing. Furthermore you can't even take the music home with you after the show. It just seems a bit pointless.
c) I am a diehard wu fan ....with a life would never consider paying $30-$50 for a once listen to an album. I love WU tang but not that much. I prefer to wait. They are not irreplaceable.
d) It kind of feels like the love of the wu fans is being exploited. If this is not the case I think Cilva should give the fans a timescale (and stick to it) so that fans don't feel exploited. Or drop some exclusives.
If you're worried that some rich greedy collector is going to buy it and you'll never hear it, you better plop down $50 and take a ride to a museum. This happens in the art world all the time. There are thousand of priceless paintings by Rembrandt, Picasso, Monet, etc. in millionaires' private homes that me or you will never see.
And as far as it being a dumb idea if they're just going to release to the public later, then why do you go to the movies? It's to experience the art differently.
So heres the deal..ill.write the check and buy that disc then,if atleast 500 of you can semd me 20 dollars a pop in a set period...ill sell it back.to u in cd rs....ringz...let me know when thr bidding begins
