Palehorse has a point. We are all 'slaves' to the machine in some form, but we are all 'slaves' to a force like gravity too.
Charles Jones' point is well taken BUT those immigrants are willingly taking those jobs and compared to what they are used to, it is indeed a 'raise'.
Will they feel this way once they become accostomed to American luxury? Maybe, most likely no, but if they choose to stay in the U.S., their children may and very likely will have a totally different outlook.
But nowadays its no where near as bad as what it used to be. But there are always going to be ditch diggers and people making lower wages. Immigrants are usually the people that take these jobs.
Charles Jones tried to put a certain spin on it, but the reality is, this really isn't so much a black and white issue.
I've been a manual laborer all my life and, yes the pay isn't great, and often time the benefits just aren't there and I work for fuckin family.
This is why I go to school. The problem is for all the manual labor jobs and factory jobs is that they used to be good jobs back in the 50's, and companies would take care of you, but with outsourcing and immigrants willing to come in and work for lower wages, that person gets cut out.
Its why so many people are pissed at Bush for letting all these illegals in. But for a guy in Bush's class, it makes sense. Lower wages he has to pay. The middle class/working class are the ones getting screwed.
But this is really nothing new. Its been going on since the Industrial Revolution, ever since people starting selling their labor for wages.
I think when discussing labor intensive jobs, unions have to be mentioned.
The problem these days is when unions get too big and become corrupt. There are some unions that benefit the worker too much and almost kill the company.
The last time I worked for a union there was a new agreement and they ratified the agreement on a 57% vote. I dont even think they had even 57% in favor when I seen the agreement....there was nothing in there and worse than it was before.
What i don't understand about foreigners is why do they come to the poor black neighborhoods to open businesses? If i was a businessman, i would never come to the ghetto to open a business because you gotta worry about getting robbed or killed. I guess they can't open businesses in the suburbs because the white people don't want them doing business in their neighborhood.

NickyTooch you're right. Somebody has to take those low paying hard labor jobs because americans won't take them especially blacks. You know how blacks are always complaining about they won't work for a bullshit salary but a lot of blacks don't have a high education so that's why some of them get stuck at these factory and warehouse jobs and they never move on to a better paying job.
There are all foreigners that set up small business where white people live. Opening up a business in a poorer area means they don't need to pay much for the lease or taxes. Of course if the risk of being robbed is high they also need to pay more insurance but I am pretty sure it balances out that its cheaper to set up shop in poorer areas.Quote:

It's a shame that you got some people that are getting treated like slaves at factory and warehouse jobs but they choose to take those jobs so they have to live with the decision they chose. There's nothing wrong with having your own business but at least have it in a nice neighborhood instead of the ghetto.
