Another reason is the cost of living in certain cities....minimum wage is sometimes not enough to cover the cost of living unless you work 80 hr weeks.
I see a lot of homeless in Portland. They tend to stick to certain regions where theres heavy traffic flow and red lights so they can hold up their signs in hopes of hand outs. About 85% of them are mentally ill and have trouble holding a conversation. I used to talk to a few of them on occasion when I worked at the Grocery store on the boulevard. Most of them need to be in a mental ward, or at least given meds so they have a fighting chance in moving up in society.
First of all speaking from experience, the homeless struggles fucked! Yeah there's programs and all, but they don't react nicely to people, they treat homeless people like pieces of shit!
Basically making a bunch of money was my only way out and hustling was the only way, no 9-5 job paying 8.00 an hour was going to get me out of homelessness.
Good topic for the thread, but when you have bills to pay, and you want the better things in life, people will do anything for it, not me though!
