Bloo Fredro didn't say in Sunset Park movie that the guy who lived in his building worked 12 hours at a job. He just said there's a guy who lives in his building who goes to work everyday. I see the point Fredro is trying to make but instead of putting a negative spin on the situation he was talking about, he acts like his life won't mean nothing if he educated himself because he feels like he's never gonna be able to move outta the projects into a nicer neighborhood which is bullshit. If Fredro's character would've put forth the effort to be somebody and go to college, he could get a good job and move out the projects. It's brothers like him in every hood in america that have this messed up mentality and low self esteem that they can't educate themselves and have a better life because they'd rather fit in with their ignorant friends who ain't about shit. I agree with Charles Jones on the thread he created because it explains why African Americans are so damn ignorant and why they are failing, with the exception of entertainment.

Charles, would you like to know why blacks like down on their own when they’re pursuing an education, speak well, well mannered, dress appropriate, etc? The reason why most blacks look down on the ones that are doing something with their lives is because it’s not common for African-Americans to be intelligent, well educated, good home training, respectful, etc. It’s all about what’s common, Charles.

If you look some races, like Whites, Indians, Africans, and the Chinese and Japanese, they are known to be intelligent, well mannered, and respectful people because they’re striving for perfection, unlike most African-Americans because it’s common for them to be stupid, submissive (mainly black males), ignorant, loud, non-well mannered, no home training, and the list of stereotypes continues. You have to understand the stereotypes in order to understand why African-Americans are the way they are, seriously.

African-Americans have been the hell and back, repeatedly. First, there was slavery, racial discrimination for over 100 years, no rights, the Tuskegee Experiment, AIDS, The Projects, and the list goes on and on. This is due to skin color and hair texture, NOTHING ELSE! Now, if they were not as dark and had straight hair, it would have been all good, seriously. But since whites feel that blacks are the most separated race from all other races, they had to look down on blacks to make themselves feel superior to blacks and make blacks feel that they are the inferior race because their physical looks. Most races (other than blacks) feel that blacks ARE the inferior race because they are known to be mentally weak, their looks, and all of the things I said in the second paragraph.

I remember watching a movie sometime back staring Denzel Washington. Well anyway, I caught the beginning or the middle of the movie where the character Denzel Washington was playing as a boy was in a classroom alone with his teacher. The teacher was telling the boy why he should not pursue an education because he’s black, he should pursue a life of hopeless, hard labor jobs, and weakness. The teacher said to the boy “You want to be a lawyer? Now, you are a nigger. Are you sure you want to be a lawyer? You can’t do that. Why, you’re a nigger. Most colors like to work with their hands. That would be a good job for you. Hard labor work…….that’s want niggers do best. You don’t want to be a lawyer because you can’t do it. You can’t do that. You understand?”

What that teacher said to that boy is STILL being told today to African Americans, but it a different way. It’s being told that THEY CANNOT AND SHOULD NOT DO IT BECAUSE THEY ARE A NIGGER OR A NIGGA! It’s being told to them in hip-hop. It’s being told to them on TV. It’s being told to them in public schools. It’s being told to them when they have conversations with their friends, parents, and even family. “Dawg, we niggas. They don’t want to see niggas in college and shit. So why bother? They don’t want to see us do good because we black, yo. Mothafuckas should leave that bullshit alone, yo.” This statement is being repeated throughout the ghettos and statements like this is why African Americans are so lost in this world.
Finally, it’s common that African-Americans are mentally weak, submissive (mainly black males), ignorant, stupid, no home training, out of wed-lock births, unemployment, no education, low self-esteem, etc. This is why so many stereotypes are being reinforced because of these major problems that they face on a daily basis. It’s common that blacks do make fun of the ones that are trying to improve their lives because they’re tired of the ghetto and they want a better life for themselves or their family. To the ones that aren’t mentally strong, they look at it as being an uncle tom or selling out because other races live that way. So, in order to be black, you must think, talk, dress, live, and act black by living the classic stereotype of an African American, which is being a total loser living a the hood.

There is some truth to that. I still work part time and go to school. I started at a place and made minimum wage 7 years ago. It is true that many of those people aren't even worth the money that they are making. Over time my boss noticed that I'm consistent, and making moves to make and save them money...let alone took more responsibility so I started increasing.

You need to make money for those people above you before you start earing it yourself. Some people are rebellious to this concept too early and prefer to just be lazy because of it (why should I make money for some other sucka)...that is making someone else rich. You need to know your own value. Can they hire someone that is willing to work minimum wage to replace you?

Some jobs that take many minimum wage workers are there to keep prices low. If Wal Mart went to $10/hour, inflation would catch up fast. In fact everyone would just start cutting jobs and hours and unemployment will rise.

A poor black person can pass the SAT test if you study. You can't expect to pass the SAT if you don't study and read. I never took the SAT because i didn't wanna go to college because i don't like school but if i would've been interested in college, i would've studied for the SAT.

i didn't study for mine and did relativly well. i know people who did study who did better, and some who did worse. i know people who didnt study and the same thing applies.

its not a culturally biased test. you just need to pay attention in school. and like it or not its not going to change unless people who want it changed get in a postition to change it. ironically though, that wont happen until those people who want it changed have succesfully gone through the system they want changed. if you follow that logic.

I agree with him that the educational system is against the lower class.

Here is Australia you are scaled according to how people at your school do as well (WHY?!) so a person's mark often to a degree represents how much they paid in school fees. For example at some selective schools 90% of the students get a mark over 90% (that means they scored in the top 10% of the state). I do not believe that by a huge coincidence all these geniuses were born to parents who just happened to be able to send them to these school. True, the teaching and standards may be higher, but I knew a girl who got a 97 and then went on to fail subjects at university.

I did my High School at TAFE (this is our equivalent of a community college). We still compete against all the school candidates for our mark. Me and my sister both got mid-eighties, one other who did alot of work got high 70's and I am pretty sure no one else got over 60. True, alot of the people there didn't work and probably didn't deserve any more marks. But me and my sister both had marks scaled down pretty severely for certain subjects. In our business studies class neither of us got under a 95 for any of the assessments through the year, but ended up with an 85 for our marks. Now you could say the teacher assessed us easily EXCEPT he also taught a high school class, no one in that class got anywhere near our marks (he said they were getting around 70's 80's at best) through the year and still they ended up with some marks around ours. The day the marks were released that teacher even called me and my sister and said he had no idea what had happened.

Stuff like that pisses me off. I worked for that course. Now I am in a good university course...but it was a little harder coz of stuff like that...but what can you do.

Also, as poor people, we often have added problems of unstable families, also the examples we see around us don't encourage study. I am at University now and when I applied it was a daunting process. I applied with my sister, but most people have siblings, or friends of the familt who have been to university and have some idea of what the deal is. Growing up I seriously never thought of going to university. Why would I? No one I knew had been.

Another problem is being poor gives you reality young. And that can often lead a person to THINK for themselves. Our education system is not designed for people who can actually think. It is designed for people who can shut up and be told what to memorize.

I do not agree that the poor should not study. Infact, that has often been my motivation not to give up. Even though the education system can be frustrating I am glad I have stuck to it. Not just for a career but for my own self-respect.

I think us poor people should work extra hard. My kids will be taught better than me to value education. I think we also have to make sure we keep thinking. Coz that's our advantage. That's the bit the rich kids can't buy. We have more drive, more reason than any of those rich kids. But we lack DISCIPLINE.

I doubt the education system will change anytime soon. The Prussian mind-washing system we have in place is all most people think of when they think of education. There is no reason why though, we can not be free thinkers, and also jump through their hoops, in fact we should be able to do it better than anyone else.

yo what state do u live in man? here in nsw theres some shit that like marks up your hsc test - or school certificate for year 10 - arent 100% for your overall mark, i forget because i got expelled at the start of year 12 in 04, so im remembering shit in 02 when i did the SC, but basically theres all this shit that weighs up your mark - i never studied for science, i could give a fuck about science, i dont kno shit on science, but i still got a mark of 70 ...

Yeah, my fucking English I could only take standard coz I was at TAFE (I love English too) and I got like 74 for it! It was the first year of the new system and my teacher said no one got over 80 for it....they capped the fucking marks the standard people could get on a part of the exam....but wait for the stupidity - the test had two parts one was the same as the advanced English AND that's the bit they capped!

How the fuck does that make sense? My marks are limited to a certain mark, even if I answer the SAME questions better than someone else just coz they in the advanced class.

But they didn't touch my maths and yeah I think my Physics was the only thing I was happy with...I think that may have even gone up a little. But I got totally fucked on Business, English and Legal :| oh well what can you do..?

BTW I saw a news show a while back where a guy applied to the Board of Studies to get his raw marks....he got a UAI of like 90s and his raw marks were rubbish...he went on the news coz he didn't think it was fair he got those marks he didn't deserve.

nah, it isnt that clear cut, im not sure where in australia you live (edit: read above, disregard some of below comment), but in WA there is scaling according to how people at your school perform, and also in comparison with the rest of the state.

i dont understand your point about people from private schools etc. doing better as if there is some conspiracy...

these students do well because they are from families which place high emphasis on career and wealth, as oppose to other values. success does breed success , although its a cliche. partly its about the opportunities people get but also about the attitude which their family has.

lastly, many rich people are, as much as some people might like to dispute it, smart people. and intelligence is an inherited trait, maybe this is why high acheivers are disproportionately represented in private schools?
