^how was taskmaster #1? i didn't pick up wolverine because the art looked unappealing...which was probably a mistake lol
I still haven't read it, I'll let you know.
avengers sucks so bad..eloels.. AARRGH
o and im rereading batman & son...quote of the day
"Don't patronize me, or i'll break your face"
eloels.
^"i have to relearn how to be myself? this is insane..."
"this comic stuff is way too highbrow for my tastes..."
so many quotables (quoting from memory)...once his run on batman and robin and return of bruce wayne wraps, i have to re-read this whole thing from start to finish.
ya, i leafed through it and the art really hurts the mock-epic-bockbuster-disater vibe...an artist with more detail would've saved the book.
re-read 'all star superman'...buy this if you haven't yet, the combination of art and writing is so pitch-perfect, i know i'm prone to hyperbole, but it's like the perfect superhero comic.
ive been meaning to buy that for years...and i never finished reading their work on x men....sad face.
^the new x-men stuff is amazing until the last two arcs ('planet x' and 'here comes tomorrow'---mainly because of what i felt was a mischaracterization of magneto, and silvestri's art didn't work with the script at all on the 'tomorrow' arc imo)...at least buy the first new x-men ultimate collection, that's the really brilliant stuff. (at least to my high school brain, i haven't read it in a while)
but you definitely need to buy the 2 tpbs of ASS lol...morrison and quitely are so good together, i think quitely interpets morrison's scripts better than anybody, while adding so many beautiful touches of his own.
'shade' is insane...i don't know why this series isn't more well-regarded, unless it eventually fizzles, but the first couple of arcs are boss and have that 80s creepiness lol
ya man shade is fantastic...all the characterizations of angst and confusion milligan whips up with bachalo are awesome
on the subject of morrison and vertigo...have u read any of his invisibles work? or animal man? also stuff ive been meaning to check out
^i've only read the first invisibles trade, and the art in 'animal man' and 'doom patrol' turned me off lol...'we3' is incredible, though
we3 is really good. bought that a while back. i've heard rumors he was going to revisit those characters.
and may i just say, i know you guys love the batman books and all, but i really fucking hate what they've been doing with the character. and the shit they got on deck just looks horrible to me. batmen worldwide? i mean, come the fuck on. its not as bad as making the punisher a zombie, but it all just feels very un-batman like.and bruce stuck in time while in his own mind as well? old trusty sidekick takes the mantle? sounds like someone owes brubaker some money or writing credits. lol
the dc universe has been really uninteresting since countdown, the pile of suck known as final crisis & the monumentally anti-climactic blackest night. yet most comic heads have a dc favoritism. go figure
^the similarities between the runs are superficial imo...and morrison is handling the time travel element more skillfully than brubaker did, who did the 'unstuck in time' shit very clumsily imo
to me, morrison's run is an all encompassing picture of batman, he just embraced the absurd as well ...and it is still very batman-like in that there are puzzles, an overarching mystery, grotesque villains with perverse motivations...it's just got the weird sci-fi stuff which understandably annoys some people...but i love it
it's just fun to read, man...it's the wackiness of 60s-70s comics but with modern flair.
also, i think bruce and dick are going to be the only batmen, he's just globetrotting working with and training other heroes, if i understand correctly...the first 'batman inc' story is a team up with catwoman in dubai.
i was always more of a marvel fan growing up (except for batman) and so are most people i have ever talked to lol
may i just say, as a person who previously only read marvel (except for batman also..eloels) DC has been in a phenominal place as of late...GL, Batman, Flash, the wed. comics thing they did..the vertigo stuff? and the current run on Batman has been fantastic...dense and entertaining.
