After GSP, I would probably put Shields, Fitch, I guess BJ up there and then Koscheck, also, Nate Marquardt has actually moved down to WW and will be fighting Rumble apparently (probably the most weight ever for a WW fight).

But I see Fitch and Shields as #2 and #3 (Shields would win that fight I think).

But no one in the division has anything for GSP. He needs to move up or something. Diaz fight would look like the Hardy/ BJ II fights. Diaz has shit take down defense, no kicks, isn't THAT dangerous off his back and loses against good wrestlers.

I agree that GSP's mentality seems to be pretty frail. The problem is he is too good and too prepared for anybody to make him worry enough and crumble.

Who would the upset be for? Trust me, Anderson doesn't want any piece of Bones. Bones has everything covered in this fight. His range alone would win him a decision, but factor in his takedowns and his ever-improving stand up (hello, he just tooled Shogun), AND his weight advantage, and you have to figure Silva would get mauled.

For one thing, Silva has a MUCH better stand up game than Bone Jones does right now. Bones has a reach advantage over everyone, so that's a given. He's physically bigger (he could actually be a heavyweight if he wanted to) so that's also a given. Jones obviously hasn't fought the same level of competition as Silva has (but then again, the same could be said about Shogun, and you see what happened there). It would be an interesting fight, but most are reaching if you think what happened to Shogun would happen to Silva against Jones.

Silva vs Jones, at this point, certainly does interest me more than Silva vs GSP after seeing GSP's reaction to damage (and this is BEFORE the eyepoke, btw). GSP doesn't want any piece of Silva.

Okami certainly earned his title shot (it's sorta fucked up he got pushed to the side since Belfort was ready to fight), but he's going to be destroyed by Silva (keep in mind, the "win" he has over Silva is via disqualification. And the Silva from back then does not reflect the Silva of UFC).

Silva has never had to work for his range in a fight. He's never had to deal with trying to work an angle inside. And this is likely what he has to do against Bones. I agree that Silva has the trickier striking, FOR HIS WEIGHT CLASS, but Bones poses too many physical problems for him. And this doesn't even include the wrestling aspect. The truth is, if Chael Sonnne, a middleweight can take Silva down with minimum set up, Jones, arguably a HW, who has dominated every wrestler he has faced, would do it with ease. It wouldn't look lke the Shogun fight, it would look like any other Jones fight, takedown and elbows. And no, Silva's BJJ isn't good enough to matter.

Well, I would simply say in terms of 'genetics' Bones has the natural advantage in physique which Silva will never attain. In terms of kinesthetic intelligence and experience, yes, Silva is a genius, but look at what Bones has done and learned in MMA in just 3 years. He's a prodigy too.

In terms of wrestling, if you concede that Silva will get taken down, how do you propose he finishes? You really think Bones, with his reach from the mount, intelligence, and Greg Jackson's planning, is really going to get caught in a triangle? And admit it, a triangle is the only way Silva could possibly win a fight against Bones. Sonnen is notorious for being choked by triangles by the way, also his ground and pound doesn't touch Jones'.

So I don't see how you have Silva as a favourite if he's going to be working off his back the whole fight. The style and physique advantages are all in Jones' column.

Shogun is as elite as you can probably get in the world. And he totally tooled him. He threw a flying fucking knee as his first strike and connected. Arguably, Silva's best opponents have been Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort. Comparable.

Look, as I said, ANY given man can be beaten on ANY given day (Bones has a lose on his record, but that's via disqualification so I'll disregard that). Longer limps actually leaves Bones more susceptible to things like arm bars, which Silva can slip onto you if you give him the opportunity.

It's possible for Jones to beat Silva, no doubt. But Silva has shown with his unorthodox style he can beat someone like Bones who, as you said, is still new to the game. Technique-wise, he is no where NEAR the level of someone like Silva and several others. Most of Jones' wins have come from him playing off his physique. That's not a knock on him (it's actually good to finally see someone with a tremendous reach fight like they actually have a tremendous reach), but his wins have rarely come from a technical standpoint.

All I'm saying is that I'm hearing from numerous people like Silva has "no chance" against "an elite fighter like Bones Jones." I call bullshit on that, and although it's not impossible for Jones to beat Silva, it's more likely one way or another Silva will beat him if that fight happens (Which, if it were to happen, won't for a long time).

Jone Jones is also a kinesthetic genius. His rapid development and in ring performances prove it.

Again, armbars, and triangles and submissions from the bottom, are all wins from the margins. Your are saying Silva will be on his back and therefore should win. That doesn't make sense.


You're not getting it. Wrestling. Wrestling. Wrestling. You can't say Silva is the favourite based on some abstract notion of his superiority. If one fighter can dictate where the fight goes, they have the advantage. Factor in everything else in about Jon Jones, and he is favoured.

Also, no, he doesn't just win by his physique alone. You KNOW very well what guys with no technique look like and they do not look like Jone Jones. This is the guy who was landing jumping knees and spinning back elbows against a Muay Thai specialist and Champion.

Jones, at the very least, has enough standup ability to stay alive or keep Silva honest for TD attempts.

All I'm really saying is that the "Jones will destroy Silva" crowd (and yes, several people have typed that online) need to really take a realistic look at their records, who these fighters have both fought up to this point, and how these fighters have won. Truth be told, Jones hasn't been tested yet. It's not his fault, he doesn't have many fights under his belt yet, unlike Silva. Anderson has been tested one more than one occasion at this point. He has won in so many different ways that it would be foolish to think that Jones will walk right through him (as some have suggested).

I don't get why that idea (which is all I was really implying) is such a far-fetched one. Can Jones beat Silva? It's certainly possible. Is it likely considering ALL factors? No. As someone else noted, you can't teach chin. Does Jones have a chin? No one knows right now, and to say yes or no is PURE SPECULATION.

But in the unlikely event the fight does happen, I'm thinking it's likely Silva will win. I just don't want the excuses after wards which tend to pile up after his victories in recent times (Meh, it was a lucky kick. Meh, he got a lucky arm bar. etc). If Jones is the superfighter, as some are proclaiming (he is very talented and could certainly be one of the best in time) in the likely event that he loses to Silva (if that fight is to ever take place) I just hope those putting Jones on a pedestal will suck it up and just admit, "Yeah, basically Silva was the better fighter."

Dos Santos is going to be trouble for Cain to deal with.

Anyone else catch how Dos Santos was caught in a choke at the end of Round 3? Not that it mattered since the time ran out, but it shows that Carwin was in the fight until the very end.

I could see Dos Santos vs Cain being one of the best heavyweight title fights in MMA history if it goes the way I see it in my head.

Yeah Carwin had a decent g choke with about 10 seconds left but was losing it as time ran out. I personally would have stopped the fight towards the end of the 1st round if I was referee. Carwin was getting obliterated! He was really even trying to defend himself. I know there was only 10 or 15 seconds left in the round, and I credit Carwin with recovering and continuing the fight. He got his ass kicked real bad, but he hung in there.

The thing about Diaz is he’s never been one to play the promotional game all that much. He doesn’t like to do interviews. He doesn’t like to hype fights. But he loves to fight and he’s damn good at it.

Diaz being Diaz is as appealing to television ratings as it is a nightmare for the UFC’s promotional staff. He’s notorious among the media for being late for interviews and conference calls, if he bothers to show up at all.

“It’s gonna be very unpredictable,” said White. “I don’t ask him to say anything special, to change who he is or whatever, but you’ve heard me say it a million times, give me that much. Play the game. Do what you’re supposed to do professionally and this will all work out.”

As White stated, he’s not asking Diaz to all of a sudden like unicorns and rainbows, he’s asking him to put up with the film crews, partake in interviews, and in general, promote the fight.

He doesn’t even have to read Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People.”

“I don’t ever ask anybody to not be themselves,” stated White. “I don’t ever tell people what to say. I don’t ever do anything like that. He is who he is and he can be who he is, but you have to play by the rules.”

And if he doesn’t? Well, that could make for the most dramatic UFC Primetime yet.
