Haha your avatar makes a lot of sense. That album is a classic and could’ve been better had it been released in 2006 with some of the cut tracks. U-God has never taken anything, all his albums are mediocre to awful.

I like how you complain about basic reading comprehension giving descriptors of “failure”, “good” “not bad” “forgettable” “blow out in quality and popularity” for the same record in same message. I dont know what your saying because you dont.
i mean ill ignore the fact that your telling me an album is a failure, vs another album, because the label head wanted it to sell more… but then double down on an incorrect statement based on it…. Naaaa
shall we see? I dont have the latest numbers im sure ringz knows. But im willing to bet its not based on whats available
fishscale: #4 billboard, 110k first week, 190k week 2, 332k last report of oct 09
cuban linx 2: #4 billboard, 68k first week, 89k week 2 (biggest drop of the year), 129k in 2 months. I dont have anything after that.
Fishscale sold better than EVERY wu album 2005 on in the era. Idk what sales are 20 years later but in that time period, fishscale sold more. Than all of them. By a lot. Some 50% total sales. Mind you, other albums by both didnt do close to either. But ghost outsold rae here.
so no it wasnt a blowout in popularity. At all. Because it sold half as much in same amount of time n the math just dont math. wizard of poetry had the same first week as cuban 2…. But idgaf about sales i brought it up cuz i didny think it was news fishscale did that well. Or received that well. Ghost passed meth rae and meth/red and the clan by 6 figures with this album in same period.
never mind if ya wanna talk acclaim… both top 10 albums of the year lists on dozen publications. Same metascore. But only fishscsle made album of the decade lists and top albums of all time lists. So… thats why im CONFUSED why people think its just a regular album for ghost. And that it didnt set up the PERFECT alley oop for rae on cuban 2.
Like dude above said, its THE ALBUM for ghost to a LOT of people. Props to noel for atleast admitting he been out the loop for 2 decades. That makes sense then. Idk why you dont know this.
btw i already admitted immob is a bad album i enjoy so miss me with the “ i can enjoy an objectively wack album”. You can also “hate an objectively good album” it seems. More power to you. Cuban 2 my fav wu album of the era. But thats the wu fan consensus. General hip hop consensus says fishscale.
If bpw was an objectively bad album… it wouldnt have gotten 4.5 mics in the source. So no Its not objectively wack. You think it is. Thats ok. Idgaf. But some things are true ( fishscsle IS popular) and some things arent (this).
:)
But then again. Maybe ya trolling lmao. I didntknow asking people about what they want in an album would lead to this but i too enjoy the enthusiasm n not the lack of it. When i reply, im replying to message not person i dont even look half the time so dont take offense. Nobody knows what they want, just what they dont. Maybe people aged out before then idk.I enjoy discussing these things in depth. Sorry if i offended anyone.
since last message i got the champ amazon commercial like 10x btw.
Forensicz, since you're so interested in what people want...as somebody who hasn't followed hip hop for a very long thyme, i still check out some things i hear about if they're of interest to me. Of all the wu stuff I've heard in the last say 10 -15 years, the only one i recall enthusiastically returning to pretty well daily for a decent period of thyme, was the remedy album. The other one i listened to a fair bit was the bugsy clash of titans one.
I don't need stuff to sound authentically wu, but it's what works for these guys.
Just like Biscuits is by far my fave post sc ghost song. The authentic wu sound will always be the best direction for any wu artist to pursue.
Let me get back to this later.
Regarding sales...no matter what we think about these albums, selling records was so difficult in that era.
In happier times, FS would have gone to at least gold.
As far as I can remember, CL2 was an indie record (released through Rae's ICEH2O), so comparison between that album and FS (with DJ support and a mainstream video with Ne-Yo on the hook) is not fair.
Respect. You admitted Immobilarity is bad. Cool that you like it. Most people can't admit that. BTW something can be good but a failure. Plenty of movies and albums are great but fail bc most people like garbage.
Here's the thing, Ghost fans do this same thing over and over. They can't fathom people just aren't into Ghost or think some of his albums are bad. They are.
Most reviews aren't real. They're bought. That goes for everything now, books, movies albums and every other product. The Source ended being remotely real in the 90's. BPW is still terrible. Getting a 4.5 is laughable.
And it's not like I don't love Ghost, he's just not my favorite and does bad to mediocre shit that people still praise. Deck's my favorite. One of the best ever and can't make an album that matches his caliber. And I'll never forgive Rza for not helping with the remake of his first album, which is kinda good at times but ultimately disappointing.
Ghost is the pop member of the group now along with Meth. He makes literal pop songs. So of course the general public gravitate to him more, he's more commercial and got more backing by a major label. He's the only one they'll even know an album is out. Meth can't make good albums anymore and doesn't care to. Outselling other members when you're on Def jam with Jay's backing isn't a flex, no one has been checking for Wu in ages. Even with all the backing Fishscale didn't do what they thought. Rae doesn't have pop songs and didn't have the backing and push Ghost did and still did well. Most Wu fans will pick OBFCL2 over Fishcale.
But popularity doesn't equal quality. Mindless people will buy garbage. The most popular is usually terrible. Fishcale isn't a bad album but it's nowhere the classic Ghost fans claim it is. Let's hope SC2 is good.
At same time, it had way more build and hype. More promotion over longerperiod of time and was on a major. Iceh20 is an indie per say but it still had major/wide distribution, the aftermath talks and promotion by busta. No record including other def jam ghost/meth/wu massacre post cuban hype are coming close to fishscale sales wise, which is a testament to how well recieved it was att. I didnt bring up the cuban 2 sales comparison. I just think both records have similar producers/production. They are kinda linked. Personally… its my FIFTH fav ghosy album…. Lol. Atleast considering og versions of bpw n p tone. Just i figured people would be happy with anythiny close but were all diff. Cuban did great im not debating that. Both are most successful solos really of the era.
i dont disagree with you at all. I agree. Id love that shit. Of course i would. But i look at past releases, and i just dont expect it and would be happy with fishscale level at very least. But i agree with you. Biscuits guerilla hood run n holla are classic ghost records and i like them more than fs. I expect something akin to ptoney/big doe rehab sonically. P toney def more wu inspired of course i want that just dont expect it. If we even got one wu style beat on here id be happy.
ty for adding on.
bro its not that i dont fathom. This is wu corp. but theres a reason a lotta people say we ALL stuck in past (that includes me guys). Youre sayiny all that, saying yea its obvious ghost is most popular. But then coming at me when people are questioning that fact on some “really? Ghost?? Top5? Fishscale? Noone listens to it”. When again, imo, i figured it was the obvious fishscale better than all his albums after it. And that top. 5 was pretty fn quality. Gzas is too. But imo jusy by versatility alone ghost edges. I have more rae playlists than anyone else but id understand if people said they did have rae in top 5 discog n popularity. But ghost?
its all good bro. Im busting balls. Again im sorry if i offended anyones opinions. I just figured a fishscale quality sc2 would make people excited. Apparently not. I get it. Im not mad at it. I just assumed most of us felt that way off rip.
My fav wu albums are like the 93-2007 releases with cuban 2. After that its super spotty. But i love those grandmasters no said date made in bk 421 8d cuban 2 albums. To me they were the last ones i listen to in fulll. I just dont expecy anythiny sonically before that nor expect it, or hold onto that standard to because we havent heard it in 20 years bouts.
we cn stop talking bout fs now lol
Ha it's all good. I'm fucking around some too, sometimes it comes off different in posts. But you're reasonable. I've listened to too many Ghost fans who go on neverending tirades refusing to let anyone question that everything he does is awesome.
Yea from '04 on I think NSD is my fave. OBFCL2, SvW Dopium, and Protools are also faves. Even though Gza is half asleep Rza woke up on that album his Pencil verse is one of his best.
I actually really like Apollo Kids, it's a nice little album. I like FILA but bc I first listened to it traveling around Europe so it has some sentimental value. If not I'd prob hate it. The 2 chainz verse is painful.
Meth can go fuck himself with TIcal 0 but 421 is one of those weird albums were I like it but should like it more but never really listen to it. Cappa is pretty much retarded with his unending "albums"
Rae is the comeback kid, after Immobilarity and LD he's dropped nothing but quality for the most part. And I hated Rae for years. Always bitchin nonstop about Rza pre OBFCL2 and it's like shut the fuck up you made 2 bad albums on your own. Ghost and the clan held you up on the first one. Rza may have gotten annoying but you don't have the answer. He annoyed the piss out of me haha. I'd prob go Gza, Rae and Ghost as the top 3 discographies.
Yeah, that review was based on a pre retail release version of the album. Those are the rough copies labels send out to media such as Source and XXL for review and often have changes from the version that actually makes it to stores
Those reviews explicitly mentioned The Sun & The Watch, which were both cut. For The Sun, the sample was lost, for The Watch, Barry White did not want to clear it. That was the story if my memory serves me correct. The Sun still ended up on that first press tracklist though.
Tracklist out tomorrow do we think?

‘Metaphysics’ out at midnight. Curious to see if it’ll be the same track he “accidentally” had posted to his instagram for like 6 hours last week. lol
Cd all good bro i feel ya. I get it. And agree with rae bit.
