I agree, he's underrated. Actually i was thinkin recently of emcees in general that should probably be considered more highly than they were. if you think that biggie (who is on many top 5 lists) only really had at the most 4 albums, and thats counting a double album as two, how many emcees have proven that they should be considered. people don't really think about q tip in this way as a producer, emcee, his influence and his consistency.
Havoc is also maad underrated.
nah i dunno about comparing the renaissance to any of the tribe albums (save love movement maybe). The whole vibe is way different from Tribe. I think it would be impossible to capture the same qualities that made the tribe albums so great in this day and age.
It was however one of the best albums of that year and proof that Q-Tip can still make excellent music if he wants.
um.....according to AllMusic.com (a very, VERY popular and well-acknowledged music publication) Q-Tip is in fact the best MC/producer of all time:
"When the best rapper/producer in hip-hop history..." so begins their review of his album The Renaissance, which they gave 4 1/2 stars. who the hell is saying Q-Tip is underrated when one of the most popular music publications is calling him the best MC/producer ever??
I recently found this... been bangin it hard too. I fuk with TCB but dont remember this when it dropped.
fuck savin hip-hop I got an album to save music, Chemical Brothers/Q-Tip/Mos Def/Pharoahe Monch...... shiiiiiiittttt.
IMO 'Shaka' felt it could of gone on either Low End/Midnight
Great MC/Producer as stated in many earlier posts...check him out live also if you get the chance, always a dope show. I loved his last album too...no wack intros, outros, or skits, just great music throughout.
