If not Wu Elements, Daringer and Beat Butcha can make bangers from scratch. That Griselda W.W.C.D. album had no samples and was full of hot beats. The Wu guys just need somebody to help them pick out the best beats.

I don't think it was the NOI stuff. In my opinion, the day that guy told RZA he wasn't a real musician because he was sampling and thus incinuating he stole music rather than make it, is the day things went downhill. The digitization of Wu-Tang music survived somewhat on Forever as RZA was still using sampled drums and in doing so, keeping a bit of the grit. But when it was time to become Bobby Digital in full and we were told:
"Ultimate Breakbeats and shit right?
Niggas still making money offa those shits
Looping the same shits for a thousand years and shit, right?"
That's the day I think the grit passed away and only resurfaced here and there on occassion (Supreme Clientele, CLII, The Grind, Tical 2000, etc).
100 on “the guy” being the ultimate downfall for telling rza he wasn’t a musician because he sampled.
Why everyone always blaming it on Bobby though?
In Stereo is some of Rza’s greatest production he ever did. Nothing in hiphop sounded like it at the time and it banged. I just wish he would’ve continued to sample as well. Today I believe he cares little about hiphop and will make whatever he’s in the mood for when he’s done being Hollywood.
I wonder if that guy knows what the fuck he did that day. He ruined one of the greatest Hip Hop producers of all time and is just going on in life completely oblivious about the devastation he caused
Isn't that scene in the Hulu series?
As much as I love/respect RZA, I have no problem saying him turning into Bobby Digital played a major role in the Wu “falloff”. Camo RZA was the GOAT. Peace
I was about to say that. The first record has a soundscape that has not been done since. It literally sounded like 2000 hiphop. After that, the whole bobby thing became a mess in my eyes and just an excuse to do whatever the fuck he wanted. Like you said, it would have been nice if it was just an outlet because these things could have co-existed.
Furthermore, there is also the thing that the Clan at first where a bit cut off and had their own sound. After Forever fame, it sounded more and more like they wre also trying to please other people with sounds. Working with other producers is nice, but if you lose the thing that makes you unique, meh.

Exactly. No way rza could have continued at the pace he was on with the 5 year plan that concluded with Forever. Fame was upon him and he wasn’t about to spend his days digging in dusty crates anyway. What would have been nice is if Wu-Elements was anything other than a sound bite for wu-fam to name drop for their project that wound up with 2 tracks produced by any of the elements. Some structure to it could have kept it fresh and in house while staying true to their sound. Tru, 4th, Math, Rza, even Deck brought heat and later Bronze and Ringz could have kept the main roster fed. My guess is the checks made that unfeasible.
Or perhaps this guy gave him longevity and new reasons to keep focusing on something in the beat production.
Their rising to success had very good foundation but they were too many to maintain themselves at a high plateau, as a group, as a collective.
It's mathematical.
