fishscale doesnt get enough shine, last time i checked this shit didnt get a plaque and thats a real shame!!!!!!!!!
first... ghost delivered an incredible first single... "back like that" served its purpose, radio record with a trendy neyo guest spot, but with top flight lyricism and spotless execution!!!! girls could vibe to that track, kids, old heads, a major label should be able to sell an album with first singles like that!!!!!!!!!!
a lotta of things came together on that...the storytelling joints, getting back in with rae heavy, a wu tang joint over a doom beat, classic intro....
"be easy" was another smash hit in waiting, boomin pete track and zany ghost.. def jam dropped the ball on fishscale... straight up!!!!!!!!!!!
i also cant see how any ghostface fan cant feel a record like "big girl"... the evolution of ghost as an artist is incredible, the content hes kickin on that is so far beyond what the average emcee is doing, always loved that track!!!!!!!!!
and ghost couldve easily taken the best material from more fish and fishscale and dropped the best double album since wu tang forever... ill never slight fishscale.. fuck outta here!!!!!!!!!
and while were at it... big doe rehab is close to being all thriller no filler... my beef with def jam is the way they promoting shit, they push the new fizzle out signees harder than the label cornerstones... wack!!!!!!!!!!!!
i feel jay-z is to blame for the lack of promotion on fishscale because he was in charge at the time
i actually think this album gets shitted on way too much, at least on these boards. when it first came out people on here went nuts and more or less everybody loved it, a year or two later this shit gets constantly shitted on here for some reason. this album was BANGING, a few missteps but still a very consistent and solid LP.
dope album..yeah it kinda drops off at the end...but its still his best work post SC.
havent listened to WOP yet...and i hated BDR.
Fishscale is a banger no doubt, I remember picking it up and playing it non-stop for weeks on end. I'm not sure why people are shitting on it because it seemed at the time when it came out that everybody loved it and heralded Ghostface as, once again, the Wu's saviour. How are you gonna hate on classic Ghost tracks such as Shakey Dog, The Champ, Big Girl, and Underwater?? Or not to mention the hook ups with Raekwon, or the nice as hell posse cuts. Fuck's the matter with some people?
Even the more radio friendly singles, Back Like That and Be Easy, are dope. So what if he put Ne-Yo on the hook, have you taken a look at those lyrics? That ain't just some normal pop son, same with the latter track. Also, the skits add to the atmosphere, and you can't tell me Heart Street and Bad Mouth Kid didn't crack you up when you first heard them.
All in all, this is probably Ghost's third best album that needs to be appreciated for his consistency.
I never understood the hate for Big Girl, I think it's easily one of the best records Ghost's ever made.
Album is the best Wu-Album since BulletProof Wallets
Yeah Big Girl is my shit as well, I love the concept of him tryna get those 2 hoes off yayo and become something better, real positive track IMO
Haven't heard Fishscale yet.
It goes on the Walkman phone today.
Music is a business. It's a business based on art AND sales. There are DOPE albums out there, that will never appeal to a mass audience, and never make any real $. There are shit albums out there that make tons of $, but, everyone knows they suck. The way to be a success in the music industry is to balance the two sides of the scale. Fishscale is a great example of that.
It hit a wide audience, PLUS, satisfied his hard core fans. Very, very few records can do that. Audiences AND critics liked it.
I think a decade or two from now, it may turn out to be ghosts biggest success.
Fishscale >>>>>>>> Cuban Linx II...
Actually Fishscale was CLII before CLII... It came at a down period of the Wu and hip-hop in general... Ghost's last album (Pretty Toney) was kinda disappointing and it was a comeback of sorts...
For some reason, it gets shitted on here a lot... Same for Big Doe Rehab which I thought was pretty fuckin good as well (especially condsidering its GFK's 7th album) but to each his own...
And seriously, Ghostface's discography easily obliterates any other Wu-member... It's not even close...
I think it gets just enough shine from its release until the present day. Well, people dont really talk about it and its just here on WTC. It wasnt overrated and didnt get hated on...it gets respect when its due.
That's cool it's your opinion and niggaz shouldn't say your hatin' because you feel a certain way. This and More Fish are dope as fuck tho.
