That acoustic video was cool. What is his most guitar orientated album? I'd like to check it out.

probably Purple Rain or Sign O' The Times, for me.
I haven't really listened to his later albums though, i don't know if this album is available anywhere, but apparently it's pretty much rock:
Cool mate. I'll take a look at those albums. Was reading a bio just before and it said that one of the discs from one of his recent triple albums is basically a guitar showcase. Might have a look at that one too.
^^look for Purple Rain, The Gold Experience, Chaos and Disorder (this one has good guitar work but the song writing is lacking a bit), The Undertaker, Lotus Flow3r
The Undertaker is a bootleg. it was a rock oriented album meant to be included with a famous guitar magazine originally. there's also an Undertaker concert vid that might resurface on YouTube

super fans are experiencing mixed emotions ... a lot of us are getting over the disbelief and are just sad now ... at the same time both casual and super fans have started flooding youtube with concerts, outtakes etc (prince had a lawyer team in place to prevent this before). also avid collectors are now leaking never before released material
you could say the gates are open now. I know a lot of people who are just DLing the tracks without mustering up the courage to listen to them atm
casual fans might have heard prince has an enormous vault of unreleased recordings. they include full albums by The Time too btw. rumor has it there is a detailed will that includes instructions on what to do with this vault. everybody is hoping for these songs to be released of course
to give you an idea of how big this vault is ... I personally have a 55+ CD collection that solely consists of outtakes that were leaked over the years. this collection of course contains various versions of the same songs. stil this collection is bigger than his official output (39 albums). the vault in Paisley Park is bigger than both the official discography and my personal outtake collection together
in the nineties Prince started making videos for EACH of his new songs. so there's loads of unreleased vids too
first to be released will probably be a Purple Rain soundtrack remaster with additional outtakes from that era though. this has been in the works for a while now
Dude must've lived and breathed music. I'm intrigued.
condolences can be posted here http://www.legacy.com/guestbooks/pri...nces/179702429
when I posted this earlier on in the thread I didn't feel up to posting the whole story behind this
petty, winwood & lynne didn't want prince on this tribute. at the last minute Rock & Roll Hall of Fame contacted prince again, against winwood and the others' wishes, since the event organizers knew prince really wanted in on this anyway
in the end the deal was that Prince was supposed to play a short solo at the end. but prince was angry with the others and when the time came he kept his solo going much much longer so the others had to keep the song going as well haha. the only one who appreciated this extended solo was dhani harrison (see that grin on his face during Prince's solo)
this also explains why Prince threw his guitar at a roadie and walked off the stage while everybody else was still there
thus a great moment in televised rock n roll was born out of envy, frustration and anger - and not just out of shared respect for george harrison
that guitar ...
off The Undertaker
from the legendary 'Small Club' gig in the Netherlands. fans consider this a top 3 Prince concert ever
that guitar two and a half minutes in ...
the other songs from this gig were upped on youtube too today
Warner Bros didn't want this remix of Prince's 'Batdance' featuring none other than Big Daddy Kane to be released. you'll notice the beat is remixed too, it's not just a Kane verse that was added

man keep these post coming, lot of good stuff here...this thread has been soundtracking my day
woah, prince had recently bought his music back off warner brothers...
maybe they need to warn a brother that they hire celeb whackers...
anywho, i just found out prince was an icke fan.
pretty awesome video this. (nothing to do with celeb whackers who dont warner brother)
Lol@ T$A and graveyard shifter having a dick waving contest over who knows where Prince's house is better.
famous outtake. recorded live in 1983
you can almost smell the purple rain album in there ...
'Rebirth Of The Flesh' was recorded in 1988 and was meant to be the opening track of the 'Camille' album (with sped up vocals like on the famous 'U Got The Look'). Prince abandoned the album in favor of 'Crystal Ball' (the original project, not the official outtakes collection with the same name). 'Rebirth Of The Flesh' was gonna end up on this triple disc album
but the Crystal Ball album wasn't released since Warner Brothers was afraid such a large album wouldn't sell well. Prince then cut down this project to two discs - this is the Sign Of The Times album you all know ...
http://www.princevault.com/index.php?title=Main_Page was offline for a few days (too many people trying to visit), but is up again. you can discover songs by first letter there and see if any of the song titles you are unfamiliar with are on youtube now
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unrele...rince_projects contains an overview of all of Prince's unreleased projects. I would recommend looking for Dream Factory in particular. this album is where some of Sign Of The Times' songs were originally going to be placed. this project predates the 'Camille' album mentioned above
as you can see the Sign Of The Times album was a long time in the making
for something completely different, listen to this 'Parade' outtake. I first heard this on the 'Charade' bootleg in pretty terrible sound quality. the version below is in great quality though and really conveys the atmosphere Prince was trying to conjure up ... it sounds almost like a song meant for a horror soundtrack
positively upbeat though is the following song from the same period, also meant for 'Parade' (and thus for the 'Under The Cherry Moon' movie)
there is only one official collection of outtakes available (with perfect sound quality). it was composed by Prince himself and is called 'Crystall Ball' (1998), named after the scrapped album). it consists of 3 discs and the songs from the eighties on there like 'Sexual Suicide', 'Dream Factory' and 'Crystal Ball' are superb. it also includes the hilarious 'Movie star' (also meant for 'Parade'), which is D'Angelo's favorite Prince outtake. finally it also contains the weird 'Cloreen Baconskin', which is a funk workout between Prince and Morris Day from The Time. you know what album to hunt down now ...
if the songs 'Sexual Suicide' & 'Dream Factory' turn up on youtube I'll post them here as well
I just listened to his songs Head, Erotic City, New Position, When Doves Cry and 1999 on Youtube. I saw 1999 and Gett Off videos on Youtube and I never saw them before. I'm glad I don't have to buy his videos dvd from Amazon.com because it's expensive LOL. I also don't have to buy his greatest hits album from Amazon.com because it's expensive since his songs are now on Youtube LOL.
it's uncertain whether all of these vids will remain on youtube though
lawyers could either be letting this slide for the moment or could be overwhelmed by the vast amount being posted right now
earlier today full albums were being posted but I noticed they got taken down
to everyone, enjoy the Prince youtube renaissance while it lasts
Lee, do you know where to get The Work and The Undertaker in mp3 aside from ripping songs from youtube? Or any other source for unreleased material?
I listened to Lotus Flow3r today (second disc only). Really quite enjoyed it. Will check out more.
how does a very healthy athletic man that showed no prior signs of drug addiction or exhaustion just drop dead unexpectedly from exhaustion. 152 hrs is trill though but there are things that would happen before dropping dead, like falling asleep.
One of my fav tracks from him :
http://bit.ly/1XV38K1
it's such a loss for this world. One of the last true genius. Perhaps a Sign of these times.
The Undertaker http://uploaded.net/file/5n974w0z (didn't DL it myself to check but this site http://megasearch.co/link/526752-otk...f3qcib1gly-rar led me to this DL). lots of other Prince albums there too as you can see
can't locate Work It for DL atm but just to get you started on some early outtakes here's the so called Loring Park Session from 1977 which has some historic value as to his early career http://www.mediafire.com/download/zm...e+-+LPS+77.zip
here's some background on that release http://forum.phish.net/forum/show/1347302787 (check the first post)
you'll have a better chance of finding Work It 2.0 (better sound quality than the first set of 34 discs) by looking for a torrent. I don't do torrents anymore personally but it would really surprise me if you couldn't find it there
you can DL Prince concerts and soundchecks here. contains some outtakes too (scroll back to April 23 for the latest batch of leaked outtakes) http://purplesanctuary.blogspot.be/ this blogspot uses wetransfer so don't wait too long to have a look if you're interested. his penultimate concert is up for DL there now too. I posted a link to his final concert earlier on in this thread
glad to hear you enjoyed it
thanks, breh
you're welcome
as promised earlier on in this thread ... two outtakes I've always enjoyed immensely
also included on the Crystal Ball official outtakes compilation is this rarity I was talking about earlier. this isn't really a fully formed song, more of a weird funk work out. nice for a one time listen. it does drag on a bit though
when I was discussing officially released outtakes earlier on (the 'Crystal Ball' compilation) I forgot to mention one of the albums Prince quickly released just to get out of his contract with Warner Brothers. 'The Vault : Old Friends 4 Same' (1999) is worth seeking out for people who like the jazzier & bluesier side of Prince. all of these songs are outtakes, most of them only a few years old at that time though
here's an example. I could only locate a live version (the lawyers have started taking down youtube videos, as was expected)
http://www.music-bazaar.com/album-im...-3-picture.jpg
most of the tracks on this compilation were meant for a 1994 musical called 'I'll do anything' starring none other than Nick Nolte. (it was turned into a regular movie instead so the songs were shelved)
there are some tracks from different periods in there too, like a reworked version of the song currently in my sig, 'Old Friends 4 Sale' (1985) which predates the other material on this release. it is terribly overproduced though, the version in my sig (the original version) is by far superior
Prince wrote this song when Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis didn't make it to one of his concerts where they were supposed to perform with him. they got stuck in a snow storm, or so they said. later on Prince fired them because he saw a copy of Billboard that had a picture of them in the studio with IIRC The SOS Band, whom they were producing for on the side. Prince had earlier on instructed them not to take any side gigs
btw Jimmy Jam has already expressed an interest in curating Prince's vault of unreleased songs, but everything is up in the air right now as we don't know how things will go forward. Tyka Nelson has filed to become the Special Administrator of Prince's estate (no will has turned up yet). it is also possible Prince set up a trust, which by definition does not have to be disclosed to the public. people right now don't know what will happen to the vault. Paisley Park will probably be turned into a museum (Sheila E and others have pointed in that direction). it would be great if they kept the recording studios open as well, for established bands, and for younger local kids who play instruments and who could use some financial backing (free recording sessions)
back to the 'Old Friends 4 Sale' compilation, it also contains '5 Women', which is a song Prince gave to Joe Cocker, who has passed away too. I could only find Cocker's version on youtube, but both versions are very alike anyway
some of the songs from the 'Old Friends 4 Sale' outtakes compilation can be heard live on this Montreux (Switzerland) jazz concert bootleg. it's an audience recording so the sound quality is okay, but not superb. good concert though
the description includes a full tracklist
another album fans of jazz could look for is 'The Rainbow Children' (2001). if you tune out its Jehovah Witness' message it can be quite enjoyable
here's a nice ballad from the album
the whole album is up for now, but I don't expect it to remain on youtube much longer
and here's a full instrumental album called 'N.E.W.S.' (= North East West South) from 2003. it sold really badly but did get a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Performance
gonna go see 'Purple Rain' on the big screen tomorrow evening. I hope a lot of fans turn up. it would be great if us fans could meet up once in a while
great live version of a gospel like outtake from the 'Controversy' (circa 1982) period
the tour was filmed and was gonna be mixed with added scenes with Prince and some friends (for example Susan Moonsie from Vanity 6) acting in them (filmed in his house in Chanhassen) - his first feature film (predating Purple Rain) if you will. the project was called 'The Second Coming' (this title is referenced in the 'Controversy' album liner notes)
the movie was never finished - Prince pulled the plug on it. but a lot of footage was filmed (all the concert footage was definitely there) and - due to the nature of the film (concert footage + dramatic scenes in between) could easily be stitched together into a coherent movie still.
more info on the movie here http://waxpoetics.com/features/artic...ill-fated-film (interview with the director, includes movie screenshots)
the dramatic parts in between the concert footage would in all probability form the earliest basis for the 'Purple Rain' movie script (both were semi-autobiographical)
the vault was drilled open today so the Bremer Trust (part of the Bremer Bank which handled part of Prince's finances) can make a list of Prince's assets

over 2,000 unreleased songs rumored to be in there ... guess we'll find out
since the mid nineties Prince was in the habit of recording a second and in the last decade or so even a third disc of songs for any given project. discs two and three were vaulted instantly. the first disc ended up at the record company for distribution
I hope they treat this treasure trove like Frank Zappa's previously unreleased music. Zappa's family have done a great job so far
Why didn't those other cats want him there?
He does seem kind of out of place admittedly, considering the connection all the other guys had with George, although I don't know who the dude playing the strat is.
Also, is that young Harrison the guy who played on the Wu song? My word he looks like his pop dook.
