Is system is called Odinani or Odinala. I would say it's a religion, but your question is hard to answer because there's no 'book' or 'church'. You just have to speak to elders that know. People have written books though, I haven't read 'After God is Dibia' but I've been told it's the best. I have read Leopards of the Magical Dawn but I wouldn't recommend it to someone without the cultural context. It's also full of outlandish claims. It's free online.
otherwise, study 120. God.
Don't discount Psychology. Human behaviour has been studied for long enough to gain insights. Like TSA alluded to, masking is an age old behaviour. You can break all human behaviour down to its motivations and maladies.
When I've had therapy its been fairly helpful, but actually just reading books on psychology gives you a much better understanding of yourself and other people. I think once you start recognizing your own behavioural patterns and bad habits it becomes much easier to deal with them or change them.
Religion is horseshit. All the wisdom contained in it is just regular human wisdom, you can pick it out without subscribing to a bunch of mystical nonsense and cultism.
TSA I'll look that book up.
Sha I agree psychology has a lot of validity. I used to read a lot of psychology books. But I also believe there's a lot of room for interpretation within it, and unfortunately very few people in this world r actually able to think for themselves and would rather just stick with what somebody else told them. What they were taught.
For a long thyme I considered studying psychology, and that's one of the main reasons I didn't. Because I have my own opinions on what motivates people to do what they do, and that doesn't work in a study or professsional environment. U have to go by the book.
I say fuck that shit right to hell.
I examine the motivations for everything I do. I torture myself with shit like that. I can't help it. It's a good thing to do, but not at the level I do it, because I'm also intensely hard on myself for my shortcomings.
That's y I say talking to therapist would b a mess. They'd b giving me their textbook opinion on things I constantly examine myself from a first person perspective, with an open mind. I'd really have to believe in that person to gain anything from or probably even to not constantly argue with them n arrogantly dismiss everything they said.
noel, I was worried about your hairline so I contacted a hair transplant specialist. he asked what number you are on the hair loss scale. i wasn't sure, so I told him probably around a 4a or 5 based on your description. he said that if you change your mind, that you should take a few pictures of your hairline and send it to him.
I'd b more like a 3 vertex or a 4 (what's the difference?). Basically I've lost the front half like that, except I've still got a little patch at the front, which is kinda cool n seems to b quite stubborn n determined to hang in there.
I do have the bald patch at the back too, except it's not completely bald. I probably wouldn't even realize it was there except people have told me n I can c it on the CCTV monitors at work, lololololol.
I agree with this too, but there are things that go beyond regular human wisdom. If someone says there's a God in the sky are they less rational than someone saying they live in 'Texas'? Is Texas a real thing or is it a bunch of people pretending a piece of earth is a Texas by consensus? Is it wise for the world to have the consensus that this is 'Texas' even though the concept causes more problems than it solves? Are real things the only things that are in play?
Most of what we do is mystical bullshit, we might as well be aware of what mystical bullshit we're taking part in or improve our ability to play without the world of mystical bullshit.
^ This concept is called Inter-subjective reality. Its basically shit that isn't tangibly or literally real but only exists in peoples minds. Money is a great example, or nation states or religion.
Personally I think religion is on the way out, so much of the major world religions just don't tally with the physical world we live in and all the scientific breakthroughs we're making. You can get the positives of what religions give you elsewhere. Religion was a galvanizing force for large communities back in the day. In the era of multi-culturalism and globalization its not going to work as well, plus when you look at the history of religion and the science of life it just doesn't look credible. It was the best we could do at the time.
And after religion dies maybe money and nation states will die too and they'll be something else humans will collectively believe in order to cooperate.
mph.
I think most of our conventional activity stems from the same part of our mind/self that makes us religious, so its something worth studying, understanding and controlling to the best of your ability. How we define truth, how we decide something is a source of truth, symbols and stories, even our ability to perform basic interaction. Most religions are windows into how humans think. We're all programmed so, to me, it's best to know what your buttons and levers are cause someone else knows and pushes them regularly.
Stories, sources of authority, symbols and other things have a lot of control on us and it's all irrational. Most of us don't know how much so, or how and it usually helps a person develop if they at the least think about it. We can say we're over Christianity but whenever you want society to move in a particular direction in the western world you create a Moses narrative and everyone starts moving. Mainly to buy shit. So you lose nothing understand
'hey this nigga wants me to think he's Moses so that I follow him based on how I'm programmed'.
or
'I need these niggas to follow me, ok bet, all act out a moses narrative'
'I'm going to follow this bastion of a good cause by walking defiantly in a particular direction because the foe we're facing is bigger than us but God is low key on our side so it's cool' is the reason walking in a direction is 'protesting' in the west, and also the reason people in power get alarmed by it.
'Oh shit, it's the spirit of Moses, if I'm not careful, their walking in a direction is going to bring God's wrath, I better strike them with force or stop them from heading in the direction their going'. then the attack happens and it become 'see, we really are Moses and he really is pharoah' real weird shit but it exists. Most people assume the people walking in a set direction are right.
I watching a video essay on how action movies have spread the acceptance of fascism in the US, and it's pretty much true. Cop movies in particular and the depiction of police work over the years. Our fixation with 'good guys v. bad guys' has made are particularly adept to sheepishly following people like us and fanatically fearing people unlike us. Or trusting authorities with ridiculous amounts of force and leverage.
I duck childrens programming that teaches 'opposites' because it literally doesn't exist anywhere in science and if purely a cultural religious function. Cat isn't the opposite of dog, black isn't the opposite of white, up isn't the opposite of down. That's all stupid subjective religious shit. You get told that black is the opposite of white, and cat is the opposite of dog, then watch a bunch of cartoons with cats and dogs fighting, then start wondering why niggas MKUltra switch flips when they're 30 and they find themselves of a wutangforum with a deep and profound hatred for niggas and THUGS. What's the opposite of a fucking Indonesian?
I don't think anyone sits there and plans it but their irrational thought contraptions leak out into anything that comes out of them, especially high effort creative works.
facism? lmao that's really funny tsa. like charles jones haha's funny. you need to stop spending so much time with those unicorn freaks and letting your green card wife rule over you.
The things that religion provides are important things, but those aren't the religions themselves. The current religions weren't around a few thousand years ago, there was greek mythology, egyptian pharoahs etc and they were created for fulfilling the same needs that the modern ones do. Before that there were rituals, and I guess a vague belief in the importance of the ecosystem and death but at that point humans didn't have the time or luxury to worry too much about what was going on.
But yeah, its a critical point in history. At least in the western world christianity is already like a cultural artifact and Islam is barely tolerated because theres so much weird shit in it. Part of this ties into modern liberalism and PC culture - the people who are really into those movements are no better than people who blindly accept old religious texts without any of their own thought. Maybe 500 years ago, those same people would have been puritanical christians.
But I think there's a limit to this. The world is changing too fast for any of these narrow minded sects to stay relevant and something new will probably fill that hole. Hopefully it won't be just a new religion but a whole new way of thinking about life.
i consider philosophy, psychology, and sociology as the "holy trinity of studies." if you have extensive knowledge in these fields, you won't experience much suffering in life.
Religion must be based on some sort of rationality. I mean people don’t go around thinking the tooth fairy is real ?
peace
I feel like certain keywords get brock into a thread, and one of them is 'mud-wrasslin'

a code of ethics, maybe (10 commandments etc)
I could do without the whole 'converting to save people' thing and holy wars. religion should remain a private matter. I respect people and their religions but ... stay out of my personal life. States led by religious leaders are a nightmare
personally I'll go with the tooth fairy any day. I hear she gives great head
anyone who is a good person was influenced by the moral teachings of a religion such as christianity or buddhism, directly or indirectly. the ten commandments are probably the only thing i care about from christianity.
"let us remember the golden rule"
i tolerate other religions and atheism. there are irreligious people who are better people than those who follow religion. i believe in god, but it's not the same what most christians believe. my belief is that god is part of the universe and the universe is part of god, not a man in the sky like the bible says. i label myself a roman catholic because it's the religion i was raised in when i was a child and i'm more familiar with it than the other abrahamic religions, judaism and islam. i choose and pick what i like from the religion.
zen buddhism is a mixture of buddhism and taoism. i think karma is real. so far, i have done so many good deeds and actions that i haven't been depressed since i was a teenager. i'm never stressed out. i just go with the flow which is what the tao is about.
science has limits. spirituality and religion are personal things. not everyone has the same experiences and feelings. the existence of god cannot be proved or disproved because it's a metaphysical theory, just like the simulated reality hypothesis, which could be a possibility too.
There's something rational in wanting to understand the universe in a simple way, or in choosing to believe that theres a clear doctrine for everything so that you don't need to worry about forging your own spiritual path.
There's also the fact that it gives hope and a sense of community to people in impoverished, uneducated parts of the world. But its known by now that the more educated and wealthy societies get, the less use they have for religion. And in secular countries (except for one...) theres way less crime and injustice.
The fear of god is a shitty reason to be a good person.
Absolute nonsense. U think nobody has the natural instinct to b decent? I'm enormously opposed to religion and at the same thyme enormously conscious of trying to be a good and moral person. Religious teachings have most certainly never played any part in my desire to b decent or my perception of what a decent and moral person is, directly or indirectly. I don't need to b told what is a moral and decent way to behave. If anything religion is probably more likely to cause open minded people to rebel n b total cunts to spite religious teachings n the fact that they're being told how to act. What to do n what not to do.Quote:

Just because somebody's idea of what being moral is might reflect some religious teachings, it does not mean that that is where those beliefs originated. Most humans naturally have a similar perception of what is a moral way to behave, based on their own feelings towards themselves and others.
science can't determine what is good or bad, so i apologize for saying that. ethics is something that is talked about in philosophy. most people want to think they're good. i think i'm a good person because i follow the ten commandments and the noble eightfold path, therefore i don't experience suffering due to the massive amount of good karma that i've accumulated. what we think is "good" might be different things. i think a person can be moral without religion or god, obviously. i don't agree with everything in christianity as a roman catholic. i'm a pansexual transgender girl, so most christians, especially conservatives/republicans would think i'm not a good person because i'm not a heterosexual who loves only the opposite sex and don't like the sex i was born with. i can be anything and still follow the ten commandments, which i think is the most important thing about christianity. without the ten commandments, a lot of bad things would be allowed in society. same with the moral teachings of buddhism and taoism. however, we've evolved so much as a society that religion isn't necessary anymore. i still label myself as a roman catholic because of my family and friends. we have a sense of community and it's an easy way to achieve happiness while having universal awareness in a possible simulated reality.
spammy, you have to be more original than that. we already have a tranny here who fucks pots and pans. we also have others that are in the transitioning stage such as tsa and shadynasty.
do you have a hoop nose piercing and magic marker eyebrows?
noel reminds me of Holden Caulfield.
