I aint hatin on rappers for makin money........I am hatin on the fact that corporations now use rap to sell fuckin hambugers and cell phones to the masses.......it waters down the music.........hence we have the bubblegum shit we have nowQuote:

uhh wrong actually, 2 live crew moved hip hop forward instead of being the worst thing. with out the help of 2 live crew ALOT of rappers wouldn't have been able to get away with their lyrics. take ghostface killah for instance, do you really think he would've gotten away with his verse on strawberry or the projects if it wasn't for 2 live crew?Quote:

I read all your posts, and I'm in no means a fan of Puffy, but commerical rap was out way before Diddy. Commercial always outsold underground shit just take a look at Will Smith in the '80s he outsold Rakim, EPMD, and Public Enemy. The white rappers got all the attention from MTV and the masses, Beaste Boys so you cant so Puff. If anything he gave the illest nigga to ever do it, Big, and he sign the Lox. To me the worst thing in Hip hop was the East v. West bullshit and the only reason I say that is because we lost Biggie from it. Big L, was coming up, Pun was opening doors to new niggas, but their dealth didnt change the musical landscape like Big's passing. Also, the commeralization of my culture, and the rise of the wack Southern & midwest aided in the collapes of Rap. HipHop is a culture, a lifestyle, rap is the sound of the culture.
Wu Forever
The 2pac and biggie shit. I can see how the younger people here think otherwise cause it wasn't their era.
Yup........it sucks. Big L's death was very tragic as well i think. Another reason why Wu must step up......hip-hop needs Wu-Tang.Quote:

Shhheeeeeeit. Puffy didnt make shit accceptable.
Corporations did. Marketing campaigns with Mos Def selling jeeps, McDonalds havin rap jingles, Jay Z Hieniken commercials, Method and Red deodorant commercials, we could keep listing these corporate advertisements for a long time.
Somebody else already made this point on this thread.

Rap is a fuckin McDonalds marketing campaign in 2005!
Puffy aint that bad. Cant knock the hustle. If you can make money make it, its the individuals choice whether they wanna be good and moral.
Another point is, people are represented by the majority (George Bush is the president of the U.S.A.) most people arent good, most people arent smart. So you get the majority of people are bad and dumb. So the music that sells the majority of records is bad and dumb music. And in the end some bad/smart people decided to make money off of dumbasses, hence we have rap jingles/hip hopification of America.
But if you are good and smart you know what to listen to and what to reject.
hiphop blowing up to fucked up proportions killed it, you know... commercial shit, that mcdonalds type shit.
Well said. Also it's aimed at "fans" that know nothing ' bout the historyQuote:

And the deaths of Big and Pac were sad but that couldn't kill hip-hop. Hip-hop was always bigger than two rappers and it killed itself or allowed others to kill it, take your pick. And I couldn't even feel that sorry for Big and Pac they brought it on themselves. If you want to feel sorry for someone feel sorry for Big L.
yeah that nigga was about to blow big time, word up, it's such a shame
BIG L was going to get signed to ROCAFELLA...........he would have been huge
...and then 90% of his fans on this board would've turned on him. Bank on it.Quote:

the irony of this post is mind bogglingQuote:

I think the most recent problem in hip hop(besides the obvious unoriginality and greed) is that it's almost all negative artists on top(except kanye and common, which the former ain't as good on the mic as they hype him up to be). I'm not some kind of soft ass p*ssy or whatever, I love cats like Mobb Deep, CNN, Kurupt, Rae, etc. rappin that gangsta shit but there's no more balance like there was a decade ago when the Native Tongues and other groups like Pharcyde and the Hieroglyphics crew were at their peaks. Yall might think otherwise but it's kinda sad that today the hip hop youth of america would rather guzzle a 40 and smack a "bitch" than address the problems of the world and keep their heads up livin' righteous. peace
Still on that NAS is the most popular shit huh..........who cares who is more popularQuote:
