^^ C'mon man, Sunlight's beat is not so wack! Tho' I agree on mostly u said, I think Sunlight deserves better mark, specially if u compare it to other tracks! U can't say that Sunlight deserves the same mark as shyty Starter which only has a nice beat, and even it is not something special! But anyway, very nice review man!

But I'd give the album 4.5/5, sorry. Don't know what other flaw except Starter could knock it more than that.
Well, In my review, there are 6 tracks above 3.5/5, while there are 8 track that are 3.5/5 or 3/5, if it was the other way around I'd give it a 4, or if it was 7 and 7. This album could receive a 4/5 I've been debating, but idk.

i'd have to agree with a majority of what you say here, because this album consists mostly of Method Man and Rae...with U-God coming in here and there. What i don't agree on is not enough Ghostface on the album...honestly I don't like Ghost's flow too much because he always talking about material possessions in his verses...i give him credit for being a vivid storyteller, and that's his niche, and he should stick with it. Rae is kinda the same way, except Rae got sick delivery. Not hearing GZA on this album enough was disappointing, but GZA been flowing for more than 30 years now, and has nothing more to prove...you can't forget about Rebel INS!!! Even after a 7 year wait for an album, he still hasn't lost his touch. Sure this album is all over the place, but the Wu live up to that "unpredictable" title.Quote:

but the rating 3.5/5 is right. Nice songs, not the greatest lyrics, but still better than most other groups, I don't get that album feeling, and there is no group energy or harmony, if we can call it like that [altho how Ghost starts his verse on the opening song using Meth's line is an exception]

"Get Em Out Ya Way Pa" is i think one of the few, if only one true banger off the album.
the beat is sick and lyrically everyone is on top of it.
and their flow, though a bit more laid back (like just about all of the album is) is perfect for the beat.
aside from that...... i think it's a good hip hop release (good, not great), but when it comes to a wu album.... it's decent. if that.
also, something i've said a fair bit for this album and i mean it strongly- it's a moody release. you really have to have the right weather and overall setting to truly enjoy it.
i bumped the hell out of it when it came out and throughout all of winter. because i live in florida and unless it's winter, it's pretty much gonna be fairly warm and either sunny or some thunderstorms. so without it being cold, overcast, or any of that, i could never really get my head in the right place to WANT to hear 8D.
like it's a pretty good winter release and should be enjoyed as such. but feeling energetic in 90 degree temperature and the sun and humidity making it more like over 100, just can't listen to this cd.
maybe i'm wrong in saying this, but its just my opinion and i feel strongly for it.
again, get the right setting and state of mind and the album will be high enjoyable, but if it's not there, i'd much rather listen to anything else in the wu library (except BDR, seriously think that was an epic fail especially after hearing fishscale, more fish, and pretty much anything else ghost has put out).
so 7.5-8.5 on a good day for the album, but on any regular day down here: 6/10

I just listned to 8D, hadnt put it on for months, for some reason i liked it more. Maybe it's the cold weather?

When i bought this album i gave it 8/10 here, but since i listened to it, i have absolutly no intention of playing it again. Replay value is very low on this. is give it 6/10 now i think. I like some of the beats, but a lot of the rapping is below par, and overall the album just doesnt work well together
Still gotta get this
the album is brilliant, all the haters need to open their minds, and expand their musical horizon!

Take It Back - This Track is a nice follow up after Campfire, and could be bump anywhere (9/10)
Get Them Out The Way Pa - I don't bump this like Campfire, or Take it Back.. its alright, theres just too many other songs i could listen to (7.5/10)
Rushing Elephants - I always have to bump when i hear this track, another hot track.. Rushing Elephants < Take It Back (10/10)
Unpredictable - ... Inspectah Deck gets me listening to this track, another track at times i skip.. the chrous doesn't help my score (7.5/10)
My Heart Gently Weeps - The Chrous doesn't help this song either, Badu doesn't sound right.. still a good track (8/10)
Wolves - A easy song to grow into enjoying (9.5/10)

Starter - When i heard the Afro Samurai Album, then heard this i skipped it Immediately.. its a okay track i just let it play while im playing games(6/10)

Weak Spot - I feel like this is the only track i can listen to and get hype, the break i love everything about this song, another song that is arguably one of the best.. (10/10)

I dont understand how no one likes Get them out ya Way Pa...that track is so fucking ILL. I'll admit it did take me a while to realize how good it was but now i bump that song more than any other on the album....the deep bassline with the weird drum beat....and meth and u-god destroy it...there deeper voices fit the track perfect and rae and ghost give tight hook
listen to this song with an L and you'll feel how ill this song is

8 diagrams took me some time because i was looking for Watch Your Mouth but it is still a banga
I don't know why people got mad at this album. It seemed people either loved it or didn't at all. I wish the Q-Tip track and "Watch Your Mouth" had made it. ("Starter" could have been left on the floor and Mathematics didn't HAVE to take it down South with that "Stick Me For My Riches" beat.) And "You Can't Stop Me Now" should have stayed on this album, instead of being the only decent track in a sea of wackness on Digi Snacks.
My only problem - I KNOW RZA had better shit lying around somewhere that is better than the beats for "Get Them Out Your Way Pa" and "Rushing Elephants". They weren't bad, just probably not 2 of the best beats he had come up with since the last time we'd heard from him.
I've noticed that The W, an album I absolutely hated when it came out, has really grown on me while Iron Flag has fallen out of my favor. I think that is their worst now.
You can't compare anything to 36 Chambers, of course, so it goes: Forever > 8 Diagrams > The W (minus "Conditioner) > Iron Flag

That's not true. It's co-produced by George Drakoulias. He's a producer who was a protege of Rick Rubin back in the day. The Beasties have a line about him on Paul's Boutique. He also co-produced "The Heart Gently Weeps" and "You Can't Stop Me Now".
