^^found this blog looking for new music^^
good shit
Updated the first post with a couple more things.
I'll work at getting a bunch of other stuff up in the next couple of days.
Been listening to Skyy a lot recently.
^^^take it back to jarre- equinoxe and magnetic fields lol
I was talking to your brother about new order---i've been spinning power, corruption, and lies and low-life like a madman, as well as ladytron-witching hour for the poppier side of things.
The part from 3.10 - 3:20 in Skyy's track 'Get Into The Beat' is the best combination of sounds i have heard for the past 5 years at least.

^^^shep pettibone has done some good club remixes for new order and depeche mode, but your probably already know that
thanks for the link and repped
I've been getting into Kraftwerk- Electric Cafe alot recently under the advisement of my ex roommate; I still think it's their weakest post-krautrock album, but it's a brilliant piece of work
'Power, Corruption & Lies' is great.
'Age Of Consent' has always sounded like a precursor to a lot of the stuff by groups like The Strokes and Interpol around 2003/2004 to me.
Except New Order managed to always sound sincere and heartfelt without ever coming off as pretentious, while the aforementioned more recent bands generally seem to never quite capture that.
Particularly Interpol, who's music i find ok, but who's lyrics and vocals kill it for me.
I should have fucking seen Kraftwerk when they came here last year.
They were playing a festival with some other undesirable acts unfortunately.
Should have gone anyway.
I think Movement is probably my favourite New Order album actually, although Brotherhood comes close.
It's pretty hard to separate their first 5 album for me though.
Republic has kind of a odd vibe about it in my opinion, but it's still good.
^^^ya i've never been able to get into Interpol for this very reason.
The bridge in 'Age of Consent' is just beautiful...the synth work in some of their songs is just jaw dropping as far as how emotive and evocative it is...and it makes me overlook how anemic Bernard's vocals sound occasionally lol.
I think the difference between New Order and their successors is that New Order were kind of haphazardly cannibalizing and synthesizing (no pun intended) their influences to create their style (a little britpop here, some kraftwerk there, some eno-bowie and lou reed sprinkled in); and also attempting to find a different direction after Ian Curtis committed suicide. Also their sound was part of the post-punk zeitgeist, as opposed to Interpol, which imo is a more self-conscious channelling of an earlier era. Which is why it reeks of pretension and affectation.
Republic was where they started to move into the more house, mainstream area, the sounds and vibe were too late 80s-early 90s club-identikit style for my taste, but if it come on when I have my music collection on shuffle I won't change it.
I saw Kraftwerk in 2004 at a theatre hall, most of the tracks they did were from tour de france soundtracks (which i love anyway), with one or two songs from their post 'ralf und florian' catalogue...it was an interesting experience, more akin to a performance art presentation than a concert really, but it's amazing to hear their songs on a concert system with the videos going, but I was stoned and floating on opiates at the time so it better've been a transcendent experience lol. if you watch the 'minimum maximum' concert dvd, it's pretty much the same show.
Yeah, live Kraftwerk was described to me similarly.
Not sure if i have mentioned Breakbot here before, but he makes some pretty smooth French Touch style tracks.
I went to see him earlier this year, and tickets were only available on the door. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, some trendster mother fuckers had got wind of the gig being 'hot' or something, and they turned out in huge numbers. My brother and his friends managed to jump the fence and a mob riot almost ensued, but i was further back in the line, and eventually had to abandon any hopes of catching the set. Apparently it was great though, and annoyingly, most of the people in the club didn't even bother watching it.
Anyway, he makes great stuff, and does some really good mixes.
Here are two which are a good introduction:

been listening to boards of canada-boc maxima---i don't know if that would even fit here, some of it's like a psychedelic version of hip hop lol
Cécile is one of my favourite producers right now, all of his shit is killer.
Not much of it on youtube unfortunately, apart from some amusing short clips from live performances.
The following track is a good though, his other material is equally good or better.

^^^ya In Flagranti is ace.
have you listened to any Glass Candy at all? it's kind of in a Italo Disco type of vein... it's hit or miss and the singer's vocals are occasionally irritating but they have some good tracks.
Yeah, i have the album "Love Love Love" and listened to it once and kicked it to the kurb.
I'll give it another spin though.
It sounded similar to the group Nite Jewel, who i prefer.
Hm, i should make an Italo Disco post, but i'll have to wait a bit.
Post that Lifelike compilation Sean.
I have already, it's in the first post.
Yeah, the reason i said i'll have to wait, is because i am operating on some of the slowest internet in greater Australia (and if you live here, you know that this is amazingly slow).
What Glass Candy record/s is/are good?
I'll try and find some links now and post them up here, but it will take a few minutes.
Out of the Italo Disco which i've listened to (and i haven't listened to a whole lot) the stuff i like the most would be from:
Kano
Scotch
Alexander Robotnick
Gazebo
Koto
Modern Talking
Cube
There are a lot of single tracks but random acts that i have on my comp that i dig also, once i have some speed up, i can probably upload a compilation of them.
The only reason i got into Alexander Robotnick was because i went to see him live when he randomly came here. A friend of mine got into a heated electro argument with some faggit electro nerd that night, which ended in electro violence.
A current group who recently released an album who capture the Italo Disco vibe are Fare Soldi. I'll post some stuff of theirs in a second.
Italo Disco, i think, is often too over the top and ridiculous for some people.
Personally, it doesn't bother me, but i can see how the vocals especially can seem really cheesy.
For instance, Modern Talking's 'You're My Heart, You're My Soul' is one of my favourite Italo tracks, but i can definitely understand why some people would dismiss it as a novelty track.
(hand over the face is a nice touch at the start Savage performance lol)
Nite Jewel isn't really Italo, but here's a sample, might recognise it:
Here's a live version, which is pretty bombastic.
I always find Italo Disco has some really nice touches.
Like the intro to Gazebo's Masterpiece or the end of Kano's 'Don't Try to Stop Me' or from 3.10-3.50 of Cube's 'Concert Boy'.
ya i have that nite jewel track on a compilation
uh...i need some more of that and the cube and kano stuff whenever it's convenient
i owe you rep on the marathon youtube post
as far as glass candy, the best tracks that i've heard are from the 'beat box' album...they even have a cover of kraftwerk's 'computer love' that of course doesn't compare favorably to the original, but it's fairly nice imo
stare at the tv screen, stare at the tv screen
i need a rendezvous
rendezvous
one of their best, no doubt.
^^^they're masters of melodic hooks
Dusk, is it cool if i post album links here?
Most of this stuff is hard to come by.
If so, i'll find some links to the better Italo albums i've come across.
Don't know if Fred Falke and Alan Braxe have been mentioned yet but they make some quality music, both as a duo and separately. Some of their stuff is verging on being too corny for my liking, but for the most part, I enjoy their music.
Yeah, both make some brilliant things.
My personal favourites:
I've seen Alan Braxe live and he put on a dope set, haven't seen Falke but from it looks like his sets are pretty cool.
