Well it's no classic but i'm really feeling uey's debut though. As someone said this is probably the best album U-God is ever going to make (i've heard some tracks from "hillside scramblers" and "mr. excitement", hahaha) and the reason is because this project was overseen and partly produced by The RZA.

hmmm... it's 7/10, but gome some incredible tracks: Shell Shock (love it, straight banger, no bullshit), Pleasure Or Pain (this beat... plus lyrics=10/10) & Dat's Gangsta (U-God is the best on this type of beats).

im like 6 tracks in and this doesnt sound wack at all. so im not sure what all the criticism is about. maybe i just havent heard the wack yet.
i think it's hilarious that most reviews have an 8/10 average rating. i gave iron flag an 8/10 and it's well deserved if you read my review. but no track on redemption deserves above 7.5/10. 65% of that album is weak. and the tracks that are decent should recieve no more 6.5-7.5/10. people need to compare music. if you give any track on the album above a 7.5/10, what do you rate music thats 10 times better than it. no track on this album is better than any track off forever, 36 chambers, OB4CL, iron man, liquid swords, tical, the pillage... yet people are rating some tracks on almost every review for this album at 5/5 or 10/10. so that means every track on all these other albums is 10/10... the albums are flawless? get the fuck out of here

ratings are subjective, and if you compare albums then liquid swords, ob4cl, and iron man are 9/10 at best because if 36 chambers is 10/10 (flawless), no other album can receive the same rating

GAR is really good, but u don't go buying this record if u don't like Uey...cuz if u like him, u like GAR....it's simple mathematics...
A better than average album with some really good joints, but U-God just has awful choruses, he shoulda got another wu brother to come in and give the shits hook. I mean dats gangsta?, stay in your lane? these were nice joints but his hooks are just awful, laughable even. also some of the production didn't hold together very well. I think U got the potential to make a classic but this isn't it.
I didn't like it when it came out, and when i happen to put again the cd in my player, i still don't... Most of the beats sounded weak to me, and U-God's flow which i happen to like (remember his two dope guest spots on Cappa's The Pillage, i thought Redemption would be just as good as that...), was not on point on most of the tracks as well. As soon as the first cut, Turbulence, i asked myself "where's the good old Uey flow gone?". Far away, indeed... Moreover, some lyrics and some hooks really sucked. Golden Armz Redemption was more like Golden Armz sinking in hell, to me... Rumble, Dat's Gangsta were the shit though. Less than average i'd say. Sad because i like Baby U... If he had had the sonic background of The Pillage or Uncontrolled Substance, I'm sure he would have pulled it off way better.
I like some of this album a lot, but Stay In Your Lane is my least favorite RZA-produced solo joint ever.

Another descent Wu-album that should have been a lot better, it has a handful of real bangers and no particulary weak track. but there's really nothing that really stand out either. Overall rating: 3.25/5
I really can't get with this album, I like U-God an all, but this is terrible stuff, I can't just blame the production either, Golden Arms delivered his fair share of crap too.

I'd give it a 2.5/5 at best. I didn't hate it, but nothing really blew me away on here. It's just a lot of average songs.
I'ma take a stab at this...
1. Enter U-God - (4/5) At first I didn't like this, but it grew on me. Maybe because there was no music, but I like what he did with the I will Survive stuff.
2. Turbulence - (5/5) One of the few classic songs on here. Beat is nuts. U-God has this stream of conciousness flow that works real well with the beat. amazing.
3. Glide - (5/5) Inpectah Deck track, break ya back. Great beat. Although U-God's second verse he uses a verse from an early Wu freestyle, and it kinda fucks up the flow, but he makes up for it later on.
4. Dat's Gangsta - (5/5) First single. Beat is a masterpiece. U-God goes hard. Everything about this song is perfect, well...the hook wasn't really that good.
5. Soul Dazzle - (3/5) Hook was average, a little long, beat was average.
6. Bizzare - (5/5) Second singe. This is one of the few tracks where Lucky Hands get's his hook prefect. Beat is great.
7. Rumble - (5/5) Probably the crown jewl of the album, maybe second behind Dat's Gangsta. Deck rips this motha apart. Beat is a work of art.
8. Pleasure Or Pain - (5/5) Great slow track, Hell Razah comes in nice.
9. Stay In Your Lane - (3/5) Beat is not really good. It's just ok. RZA fucked him up. Hook is not really good (but what else is new?).
10. Shell Shock - (5/5) Hook is great, Raekwon does his stuff. Leatha Fase was probably better though.
11. Lay Down - (5/5) One of the best beats on the album. U-God lays it down (lol)
12. Hungry - (4/5) This is a guilty pleasure of mine. Alot of people think this song sucks, but I've actually grown to love the hook on here. Beat is good too. Although it's weired how he does the hook twice in the beginning and end, then just raps in between. But it works for me.
13. Turbo Charge - (4/5) This is a solid track. This is an ok beat from RZA, hook is good, but Uey sounds a little rough.
14. Knockin' At Your Door (4/5) Again another messed up hook. Beat is good, rhymes are glood, but nothing really special.
15. Night The City Cried. (5/5) Who the fuck says Uey can't be a storyteller? This song was enjoyable throughout the whole thing, and It left me wondering why it wasn't continued. Next album maybe?

This mother fucker is a classic.
I don't give a shit about what all you U-God haters say. This album was mad slept on. I reccomend this to any Wu fan, hip-hop fan, or Uey fan.
There is one flaw I have though, and to be honest, U-God seriously needs to get help with his hooks. Some songs he nails them, and I can deal with a few tracks with him doing them, but other songs are just plain out ugly and laughable.

Some of the choruses are horrific though.
I'm startin to love this album more and more! I expected much from it, and the first time i have heard I wasn't satisfied at all! But every time I listen to it again I like it more and more, and now. I really like it! I must say that I underrated it when i voted, I had to go for a Superior album, cuz most objective, it is no more and no less than that!
And I must confess that sometimes I really underrate U-God!!!

Chronologically this is a 2nd generation Wu solo album.
U-GOD is ok.. he wasnt really my fav out of the bunch sometimes he can kill it and suprise my ass but others jut like he has a old school rap flow that bores me most of the time ..
i wont buy his album im just not that intertained by him on that level as a solo .
but when he jumps on dope joint's ill cop it but not enough for me to go out of my way for it s

I remember the year this came out, I was on a trip to DC in high school, we went to the mall before the smithsonian, and I spent my souvenier money on this and Beneath the surface, YES, even in the capital, I rep the Wu
Enter U-God-No beat, but its not needed. The lyrics, are....different. But a decent intro 6/10
Turbulence-A beat that I wish I could credit Rza with, But true mas killed it. U-god showed that he deserves his spot as a general with this one. 10/10
Glide-The beat is great, I just wish U-god held it down better lyrically 7/10
Dat's Gangta-This isnt a very over down and over produced beat, A easy drum loop and nice samples. Lyrically one of Gods best of the album 8/10
Soul Dazzle-This is the type of song that U-god needs to have more often. Lyrically hes nice on it. 9/10
Bizarre-I love this beat, one of the best, but as a instrumental, without lyrics its not as good, It could have used a guess track. Lyrically good, but God doesnt seem to be comfortable on it. 7/10
Rumble-Best track on the album. Best beat that many hardly mention. Lyrically, you can tell U-god loved this shit, and Meth crushed it like always. 10/10
Pleasure and Pain-The 2nd best track onthe album, and the guest appearance by hell razah was perfect, especially on the hook 10/10
Stay in Your Lane-Sounds like a left over beat from Forever,Could have been a better track for afro samurai if it was made years later. Lyrically you can tell U-god HATES this song, by how bored he sounds on it. 5/10
Shellshock-Raekwon is the star of this joint, The hook is even better. I like the beat, it sounds like some Killarmy shit 8/10
Lay Down-The beat is hot, and Deck would have KILLED THIS, But the hook as mentioned before ruins it from being perfect. 7/10
Hungry-Not a good track at all. But I dont know, This isnt good 1/10
Turbo Charge-One of Rzas most underrated beats, And U-god laced it nicely. this beat is FUCKING AMAZING, This SHOULD have had a Rza cameo 10/10
Knocking at Your Door-The beat is forgetable honestly, Beyond Razahs verse, I never really fucked with this joint 7/10
Night the City Cried-Wow, probrably the best finisher to a Wu solo album besides BIBLE, The beat is touching and U-god makes it rememberable, Why he did keep this flow is sickening 10/10
what i wonder is if the RZA-produced "Enter U-God" intro originally had a beat on there.. it sounds like it's supposed to be there but probably caught up in sample cleaing issues.

I was just listening to this shit. I came here just to say that the RZA beats are BY FAR his worst beats ever. It sounds like he is trying to cater to Uey and it just aint working. there are some bangers on this album but Uey shouldn't release albums. I love u god on guest appearances and Wu albums, but dopium was his best album and Its just above average. I love is flow and his passion but I just don't think he is creative enough to do albums. Or maybe he is trying to be to creative. I think he either needs some hardcore Wu beats or some smooth shit like bizzare. that track is so sick. as for hardcore rumble is sick too. That song"knocking at the door" or whatever is ill too, but the hook is just so fucking annoying. I love when U god goes off. the last song is nice too, Night he city cried.
^^ "Stay in Your Lane" is real bullshit music but "Turbo Charge" grew like fucking crazy on me, Uey was born to rhyme on that beat.. that is incredible chemistry between MC and producer, so go back to that one and just zone out.
