I'm pretty sure Spain will win tomorrow. And pretty sure they could beat Brazil. But you're in denial if you don't think Spain - Netherlands was the best match so far.
Brazil - Mexico was not the best game. Entertaining yes, Mexico played well. Their keeper Ochoa was great. Spain - Netherlands has been the best game.
Belgium did what they needed to do, they were a bit lost. Algeria jus parked the bus and Belgium just had no clue how to break them down.
Korea!!
How bad has Akinfeev been tonight though he's spilled about 3 or 4 long range shots.
Both goalies have been awful. Both can't catch.
Japan and Korea just can't close out a game but it's an unlucky goal to concede like Müller's third
After The World Cup ends what is the next big thing in soccer, like what leagues start up, when do they start up, and will you guys talk about them a lot, or once in a while?
Well there's no point talking about the asian cup with Europeans and Americans
What about with Asians?
Many different big leagues, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, English Premier League, French Ligue 1, German Bundesliga plus European competitions like The Champions League & Europa Leaue. Then you have the qualifiers for the various International tournaments like The Asian Cup, Euro 2016 etc etc.
Soccer continues, what you do in one season affects the next season and what competitions you compete in, Its not like American sports where everyone stats even and then at the end of the year you crown a champion and then everyone starts back at zero.
I meant that the asian cup probably don't be telecast/be of interest to the places we here like UK, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium etc rather than not caring what they have to say.
But as masked avenger said the leagues will start just after the WC and it's back to business.
Does anyone actually still care about the europa league?
Yes. At least somewhat.
Right after the world cup, we also got the transfer window where clubs can buy and sell players, I expect that to garner just as much football talk as the leagues do when they start up again.
Ya'll need to chill. The world cup is like a week old and you are already talking about what comes after lol.
Just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Thanks man!
Looking forward to Spain's second match, which I believe they will win even though Chile is a strong team. If Del Bosque makes some changes, the team should be able to perform much better this time around. I still think Spain will make it to (at least!) the next round.
Holland should be able to easily defeat Australia.
Eto'o might not play against Croatia as he is said to be slightly injured. Croatia will definitely win this game. Mexico-Croatia will be a really good game a few days later, I think.
Best goalie so far in this tournament : Ochoa! You can tell he is desperately looking for a new team since Ajaccio (France/Corsica) is forced to leave League 1. A good motivation, it seems. Brazil-Mexico was an enjoyable fast paced match. I wish the Belgians played this fast!
The Russia-South Korea 1-1 draw is of course good news for the Belgians ; it is in fact all we were hoping for from this match. I did not get to see the game, but from what I gather from the several analyses I read the Koreans were quite tired in the last 20 minutes. This surprised me since they are known as a very physical team.
The fact both goalies screwed up is reassuring for the Belgians' future matches. Russia's chance in the next match (Russia-Belgium, Sunday) is our left back defense. Vertonghen is an excellent defender, but not in his typical position on the national team. The problem is Belgium has no really skilled left backs at all. I'm sure the Russian coach has noticed this issue as well upon analysis of Belgium-Algeria. Belgian coach Wilmots may want to consider bringing in a defensive midfielder on the left position to help out Vertonghen against the Russians.
Lots of star players aren't really bringing the heat so far. Fred, Hulk, Eto'o, Sneijder, Hazard, Messi, Ronaldo, ...

The only real superstars who have shown what they're made of are Benzema and Neymar. (But still many games to come, of course.) Too bad Ribéry and especially Falcao couldn't make it to the tournament.
Robben tore apart Spain how can you leave him out?
Netherlands have never defeated us. It's a shame Franjic and Miligan (as much as I hate the cockhead) are injured. McGowan isn't a fullback and will get targeted. If we can avoid stage fright like against Chile I think we can do okay against holland. Or get fisted 0-6, either way.
Pirlo was incredible too, he broke like 4 records some as far back as 1966.

Sneijder hasn't really been a star for a while. Maybe in Turkey.
I think it's a common thing for the stars to not really shine on world cups. It's such a different game and everyone has to adapt. Different playing style with every game instead of the competition they're used to.
Sneijder's been quite bad in Turkey as well. He only got a little better towards the end of the season and i think that was due to the fact that he might not have made the national team, so he upped his game.
When he first came to Galatasaray he was being played on the left which was just daft. Mancini made him a number 10 again but to be honest playing on a bad team in a bad league isn't gonna get him far. He just went for the money. Which says a lot about his mentality at this point in his career.
You saw in the first game against Spain 2 clear cut chances which he missed. Sneijder of a couple years back would have buried them. He is not the same, but form is temporary class is permanent so he is always capable of pulling off something special.
As a Inter fan I watched Sneijder week in week out for 2 seasons, he is a great player but he plays with zero heart, maybe for the national team it is different.
Ok, since this forum has lots of soccer fans am going to keep it a sticky thread after The World Cup ends, but just as long as the thread does not die down in conversation.
The thread was unstickied before cause it wasn't that active lately.
I need to change my pants after Cahill's goal!!
Tim fucking Cahill!!!!!!! Goal of the tournament. Australia playing well.
Dutch straight up under estimated us but now van Gaal will adapt and change. It's a new game now I think they'll go on with it. I just wish we had a second genuine goal scorer, two or three chances that should have been at least put on target.
Two great goals, especially Cahill. Dutch play absolutely terrible.
Incredible goal by Cahill
smh @ getting the yellow card and missing the spain match
This group is especially entertaining
That penalty was absolutely unjustified. Still pissed about that.
smh his arm was nowhere his body it's a penalty all day.
You can't run with your arms flat against your body. His hand didn't go to the ball and the distance between the two players was so small you just can't retract your arm in time. Absolutely bullshit.
The ball hit his arm, not the other way round. In Dutch they call it 'aangeschoten bal'. Should not have been a penalty.
Anyway, the Australians played well. The Dutch did okay too, but some of their defenders have issues trying to shoot the ball to the midfielders or strikers. It's the team's biggest problem. Janmaat was better at this this time around than in his first half against Spain. But De Guzman and Martins (who's more of a midfielder) aren't very good at that : taking the ball to the opponent's half in an efficient way.
The big advantage the Dutch have is that they have world class strikers. I think Sneijder did better this game than the last one. He was kind of invisible last time around.
Entertaining match! I like the Australians' attitude. It was their first match I saw, so I cannot compare to how they played against Chile (but I've been told they played with the same gusto).
Spain-Chile, end of the first half. Spain is definitely playing better than last time around (better combinations, more determination), but Ramos and Xavi Alonso are lacking at the moment. They might pick up in the second half. Iniesta is working really hard.
I'm surprised Del Bosque opted for Diego Costa again. He's a great player, obviously, but I still think he doesn't fit into the Spanish tactical plan. I hope he proves me wrong.
Chile is playing great. They're fast and they counter well. Fun match to watch so far. This group is entertaining, as someone stated above.
