Same happens with 'crime rates', so its no different internationally. There's nothing particularly bad about what's happening in Ukraine. If Iraq, Syria, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, etc were reported with this level of emotional manipulation we'd all be on our fifth stroke.
Europe's racism has been on full display here. BIPOC people are having huge problems fleeing the Ukraine into Poland, and are sometimes flat out denied entry. In the Netherlands they are welcoming these people as 'real refugees'. This has caused some people to speak out how they are calling refugees from Syria, Iraq & Afghanistan just foreigners (The actual word is 'vreemdelingen', but English has no direct word for it. Foreigners also translates to people from a foreignland. Ah, aliens would be better.). Mind you, the Dutch had an active hand in the wars in these countries, and thus the displacement of these people. But people are now literally saying they care about the people from the Ukraine because 'they look like us'. Conservative right wing parties are now opening the borders, which were closed when Belarus pulled that stunt with refugees on the Polish border 2-4 months ago.
