Brazil have sucked for nearly 10 years and if you were being fair probably closer to 15 years, 2002 WC was an embarrassingly poor tournament overall. Just like Argentina and other South American nations they've abandoned the South American style for a classical European one and they can't do it. Brazil are ridiculously mentally weak too, that shit over Neymar's injury was embarrassing. You didn't see Germany doing that for Reus, Badstuber, Gundogan etc Neymar himself is a petulant little cunt that can't handle pressure he won't lead Brazil to anything.
This current crop of Brazilian's is too mentally fragile to deal with the expectations. Brazil will go down the path of England where expectation becomes failure too often and gets replaced with expected failure and become a national joke punchline.
Messi again coming up short at intentional level I see.
i would't blame Messi for Argentina not winning again, fucking Higauin. Last year world cup final he flops on a one on one against Germany, any other striker would have scored. Last night he misses a sitter in the final minutes, then he missed the penalty by miles. He has played horribly all tournament.
I didn't want Chile to win after the Uruguay game, but yeah 99 years later i guess they deserve to win it.
I think the 2002 Brazil team as a squad was incredibly good the names in that squad, Ronaldo, Rivaldo (cunt), Ronaldinho, Carlos, Cafu, Denilson, Lucio etc etc. Great squad but after that in the Kaka and Ronaldinho era they have been poor. The team now is overrated because of Neymar, we saw them in the world cup and now in the copa, not a good side.
Argentina have been better but unable to win anything which has been shocking, they should have won the 2006 world cup. That Argentina side and the way they played was great they were the best team in the tournament but lost their cool against Germany. European teams have caught up South America in the ability to produce top talent add onto that tactical superiority the south american teams naturally now lag behind. No longer do teams sign a Brazilian from the Brazilian league, only teams like Porto who have vast scouting in South America take the plunge. Others do not take that risk because its become a risk, you just don't know if that South American players play would prove fruitful in the European leagues. Some 15 years ago you wouldn't have thought that.
The US wins the world cup.
Han & the Hound make great points.
I wouldn't go as far as saying Brazil has sucked for 10 years
I say they played the less stellar footy in the last 10 or so years.
They did beat Spain in the confederations cup in which Spain were going on a tear in that era.
But ...yea.. the calibur of players have been declining. I Agree with you Hound, that Brazil will end up like England. High expectations and no results. Aside from Neymar I dont see any young prospects shooting up the ranks.
imo the 2002 and 2006 squads (on paper) were solid !
They are not playing their brand of footy. I dont think Dunga's style of coaching will help either. Its awkward and boring. its like hes trying to do what pep is doing at bayern.
I do agree that this Brazil squad lack the discipline, flair, mental toughness and balls.
I'm surprised at Argentina ! They are like the dutch of south america. They have a solid squad and choke when they get to the finals. As HAN said fucking Higuain !!
Messi has a good supporting cast with him that are capable of finishing and winning.
Congrats to Chile tho! They have been improving over the years (along with Colombia, Mexico, and Paraguay)
USA beat Japan 5-2 in womens WC
Well the team that won USA 94 wasn't your typical Brazil, it was a bruising side especially in midfield with guys like Dunga. For Brazil to play the way everyone expects them to and actually win they need a squad of superstars. They just don't have that anymore.
Another thing which has hurt Brazil is the attitude of their stars, I think people have just had enough. Guys like Adriano and Robinho, super talents but they preferred to get paid and get fat, now where are they?
Barcelona sign Arda Turan for 40million Euros, he will have to sit out 6 months because Barca can't register players. Odd signing, they don't need him at all they have enough wingers and I think they overpaid massively. He a good player but not worth 40million.
Lol you really have it in for feminists. I watched the womens final it was rather entertaining thanks to the piss poor defending from Japan, comical at times.
Don't know much about what this goalkeeper woman has done, however in the world of soccer more severe shit has been swept under the rug. You are right though, if a male sports star got involved in domestic violence the media would run a train on them.
They don't literally suck but in comparison to the top teams and where they are expected to be they do and have for many years. Brazil haven't had a joga bonito team since the 80's but they've won 2 world cups since then. The 2002 team was good but they still struggled along the way, Turkey gave them big problems. It was just a shitty tournament all round. The 1998 team was better. The 2006 should have gone further with its new wave of talent coming through mixed with old heads.
Anyone with above talent in Brazil becomes rock star status now. Neymar has been a rockstar since 17 or 18 plus a lot of them get massively overrated, the next Pele and Maradona comes out a lot haha Robinho was a massive flop!
Arda Turan transfer makes no sense especially for that money. That's a Real Madrid type of signing.
Raheem Sterling acting like a total bitch to Liverpool. Players these days can't be bothered to put in the effort to build a title winning side instead they just go glory hunting. No loyalty in todays game.
Arda Turan will sit for 6 months, i mean a transfer ban should be a ban not being able to sign players. FIFA being FIFA as always. He aint worth that money, him signing for Barca has been annoying, his been all over TV in Turkey its unbelievable, it was breaking news on TV channels. They named a street after him in Istanbul, he is being hailed as a God. If he was so good Turkey wouldn't be ranked 48th in the world rankings, fucking Wales are 10th, Romania 8th.
The Turkish league has become a real dumpster for finished players, Podolski signs for Galatasaray, Nani and Van Persie sign for Fenerbahce. Eto'o signs for some random team who just got promotion, same team also says they want to sign Ronaldinho, Victor Valdes and David Villa lol. The foreigner limit in the Turkish league was taken from 5 to now 14 reason why this is all happening. Don't know where the teams find the money though, its all incredibly shady.
Sterling isn't even up to the hype.
Apparently Fenerbahce gonna pay RVP 250k a week, jeez that's crazy for a guy who's injury prone and in his 30's. The Turkish teams are pumping insane money in to players past their best, it's just gonna fuck their teams up in the long run.
I agree about Barca it's absurd how they've been allowed to sign players. It was a joke when they rushed all those signings last year. UEFA won't do shit to big times but they crack the hammer down on a Russian club
Yeah the deal is 1million euros a month, worst part is that its a 4 year deal. RVP guaranteed 48million Euros. The money being paid is insane. A half dead RVP would still be the best striker in Turkey though.
Now Galatasaray want to try and sign Ibrahimovic or Robben.
What a waste of players.
Yo HAN what can you tell me about Filip Holosko? It seems like Sydney FC (my team) have signed him to replace Marc Janko who had a great year. Does he have goals in him? Newspaper says he's more mobile but Janko came up the goods when needed
Well Holosko is decent, can't expect a lot from him though. He doesn't score much but to be honest at Besiktas for the countless seasons he was there we never really played him as a striker, he was on the wings left or right, sometimes we even played him as a full back, so he can play multiple positions. He is mobile and a really hard worker. Model professional to, never heard him ever complain even though Besiktas treated him like shit, the fans always liked him.
Like i said though don't expect too many goals.
Lol this dude is surprised that racism exists in Russia? It's funny when Americans discover football

Five Chelsea fans who were banned from all football matches for up to five years over an incident of racism in Paris in February, in court proceedings that concluded Wednesday have also been barred for life from attending fixtures at the English champions' Stamford Bridge ground.
The men, including former police officer Richard Barklie, were involved in an incident in which a black Frenchman was repeatedly shoved off a metro train carriage ahead of Chelsea's Champions League match against Paris Saint Germain.
"This was an abhorrent, nasty, offensive, arrogant and utterly unacceptable behaviour and cannot be allowed in modern, civilised society," district judge Gareth Branston said at Stratford Magistrates Court in east London. "It must be stamped out."
Branston said the 50-year-old Barklie -- who is a director with the World Human Rights Forum -- and 20-year-old former finance worker Josh Parsons had played a leading role in the racist abuse and in pushing Souleymane Sylla off the train.
He accused them of "aggressive, disorderly conduct".
Barklie had defended himself in court, saying there was no racist motive in pushing Sylla and accusing the Frenchman of "aggression" for trying to board a crowded train.
Barklie, Parsons and William Simpson, 26, received court orders banning them from all football matches for five years.
A fourth fan, 20-year-old Jordan Munday, was accused of joining in racist chanting and banned for three years.
A fifth fan in the same case, Dean Callis, 32, has already received a five-year banning order for his role.
Chelsea, following Wednesday's court proceedings, said all five men would be banned for life from matches at Stamford Bridge, their home ground in west London.
"The behaviour of these five individuals was abhorrent, against all of the club's values and falls way below the standards the club expects of supporters attending our games," said a Chelsea statement.
"Therefore the club's bans permanently prohibit any of these individuals from attending Stamford Bridge or purchasing tickets from the club for any future matches."
It added: "Chelsea FC is proud of its diversity, which runs throughout the club -- from our owner (Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich) to our multi-cultural playing squad and backroom team, the staff and our fans.
"We are also proud to support the work of Kick it Out and Show Racism the Red Card, among other organisations, as well as the work of the Premier League, UEFA and the Football Association."
The incident, captured on the mobile phone of a British expatriate, sparked widespread condemnation.
After the hearing, Barklie lamented the verdict and said he was "considering an appeal".
"I have always accepted that I pushed Mr Sylla off the Metro," Barklie said.
"The reason was because the Metro was crowded and there was no room for him to get onto that carriage...He was pushed off the train because there was no room and not because of the colour of his skin," he added.
"It is important to remember that only after Mr Sylla had been pushed off did the racist singing start. I am not responsible for the actions of those around me."
^lol the bullshit coming out from these guys is incredible, they are racists like most fucking Chelsea fans. Good that they got banned.
Jamaica in the Gold Cup final, amazing shit i hope they win. Panama were royally screwed against Mexico in the semi-final.
any news about the FIFA scandal?
Its been pretty quiet lately.
Ive been hearing a boycott of the WC in Russia due to the racial slurs happening there.
I dont see that happening tho.
Im still wondering if Qatar and Russia are gonna be stripped of the WC
So the US came 4th in the gold cup lol
Yeah the USA are shite, Klinsmann obviously working his magic there. I think its a case of that the Americans can play well when they defend and the other teams who 80% of the time are better than them are keeping the ball, allows the Americans to counter. When the tables turn when they play weaker opposition they just don't know what to do, case in point against Jamaica and Panama.
World cup qualifying groups drawn out. No tough groups in Europe apart from group A i think although Group I with Croatia, Iceland, Ukraine, Turkey and Finland will be interesting. All the teams can beat each other, no clue who can go through. Ofcourse Turkey most likely won't cause we are shit. Great to see at the draw Blatter and Putin together, just wonderful.
WHAT A DAY TO BE ALIVE! WHAT A DAY TO BE ALIVE!
Hoping Man Utd fucks up. Their midfield is looking dangerous, but their defence and attack still looks weak. Not convinced. Neither am I convinced with City. I think Liverpool can surprise a few teams this year.
I think this will be Arsenal's year don't see City or United challenging and I got my doubts on Chelsea.
As for Liverpool I just don't know.
The Super Cup was an epic game last night. I was rooting for Sevilla hard, Barca just switched off after the 4th goal.
^^ not having Xavi to come off the bench and settle the game late for Barca is going to be a struggle for them I reckon. He would've come on and calmed things down, sucked the life out of Sevilla and Barca probably win 5-3. They won in the end but they won't get lucky all the time. Arda Turan is nice but he's just not that role.
Barca pumped 0-4 by Athletic the other night. I like Athletic they're attractive to watch and they were really exciting a few years ago. Barca's defence is pretty shoddy at the moment.
Kovacic got sold to Madrid? Wera is gonna be pissed!
Well they conceded 8 goals in 2 games. Something is wrong there at Barca, that just doesn't happen. Arda Turan is a winger theres is little to no chance that he can play in that Xavi role, it was a pointless transfer as they already have similar players, they got Alen Halilovic who needs more play time in the first team. Barca need central midfielders, I am surprised they didn't go after Kovacic.
Yeah lol I got City wrong as well.
I really think that losing Thiago is a huge blow to Barca and unless they find another class central midfielder they'll be in trouble with the big teams. Sure having Messi, Suarez and Neymar will bail them out a lot but not as often without a presence to dictate the tempo. Barca loss is our gain, Thiago is amazing. They can have Xabi Alonso lol he's a passenger
I see City carved up Chelsea. I like Pellegrini he's a good manager. I was hoping City would sign Guardiola haha I hate him. Mourinho is going on about City didn't deserve a 3-0 win. From what I read it deserves to be like 6-0 haha Mourinho's deflection strategies are great but he's the master at it. He'll say something outrageous or controversial and then everyone forgets how bad his team just played. It's good to see Leicester start well because Ranieri has copped a hammering from the media before season start now I'm reading from the same people they're the new Southampton to make the top 6 lol poor Southampton they just kept on losing their players last few years I was really hoping they'd crack top 4 last year they're great to watch in a rather robotic league
Dortmund were losing 3-0 by the 30th minute in the Europa League then won 4-3. Great game. Dortmund are just so fragile sometimes to do the most unexpected shit.
What the hell is wrong with Holland? I haven't watched them in the other games but against Turkey they were awful. Turkey are shit, like proper shit we had only beaten Kazakhstan in the groups so far. Holland though were even worse, massive gaps at the back absolutely nothing going forward, mistakes from all the players. It was shocking.
The next wave of Dutch talent must be pretty weak and still relying on Robben, RVP and Sneijder. I guess you always just expect the Dutch to always be up there and there will be a lot of pressure for Memphis Depay to step up and be a new Robben. So the Dutch are out and Turkey can make a playoff?
Iceland qualified for their first tournament and Wales are all but qualified which is good to see these teams make it. I'd love to see Wales v England in the tournament imagine that for a knock out match.
The Dutch aint out yet but Turkey just need 4 points to guarantee 3rd place. Usually Holland qualify easily even in tough groups, they didn't lose a home game in like 15 years or something in the qualifiers but in this campaign its just not working. They got no strikers, Van Persie and Huntelaar in just in shit form and it don't look like they gonna get back.
The qualifiers should have been easier with the new format but a lot of good teams have flopped. Switzerland were a top 10 ranked team before the world cup, the best defensive team in Europe now they are just shit. Bosnia had a great run but they haven't gotten over their bad world cup. Greece are fucking bottom in their group they lost twice to the Faroe Islands, thats just crazy.
Then you got teams like Romania, Iceland, Wales going through. All been a bit weird.
Germany have to be outright favourites for the tournament next year.
Northern Ireland are top of their group and I can't believe that Albania are all but assured automatic progress. It's good to see these teams make it but I think expanded euros might be suffering next year with a few too many weak teams. It was going to be bad enough even with holland there.
Fucking Chelsea man. I haven't been able to watch the last games so plese tell me what's going on there?
Chelsea have just been crap. Everyone around them improved they didn't and they pay the price for it. Their play has been slow, they can't mount pressure in games and the defence they relied upon before has been making a lot of mistakes.
Liverpool have been shit to, poor start to the season yes won a couple games but were lucky. I just don't see this team going anywhere.
