worst era of hockey ever. i went to i think it was game 5 that year of the conference finals against the panthers and i literally almost fell asleep at that game. i have never been to a more boring sporting event in my life and that was a fucking playoff game. the style of game that florida played ruined hockey for a decade and almost killed the nhl - literally.

why what happened?

One of the players (I think it was Belanger) killed a rat in the dressing room before the game and scored 2 goals. After that whenever someone scored in Florida they would throw plastic rats on the ice similar to Detroit and the octopus. After a while whenever a player form Florida scored a goal the ice would be loaded with thousands of those plastic rats. After that the NHL banned things to be thrown on the ice besides the traditional hat when a player scores a hat trick.

The trap is fucking horrible and a reason why the league started changing some rules.

it was scott mellanby and actually the league really didn't need to change their rules. they just needed to enforce the ones they had. a few teams still use the trap but it's not as effective when you can no longer clutch and grab.

how come the penguins have won 4 in a row without crosby?

yes, you are right that the refs called all obstruction penalties in the neutral zone.

the biggest change was taking out the red line for passing to weaken the trap....changing goal tending rules made the games a little more high scoring but I dont think that was directly related to the trap.
