Batman & Robin was crazy.
my lcs had a free bbq earlier today and the new writer jonathan hickman for f4 was there got it signed
how was the issue? and he is also writing Secret Warriors..which also came out this week
sidebar....Zombies Return is out today...along with Strange Tales.
wow...holy shit, just read Zombies...gotta say, fuckin awesome. i was really expecting shit..but the art was just gruesome enough, and the writing was just over the top, enough to make this issue fuckin great..pick it up.
what is zombies return?
won't make it into the shop until like friday or saturday...damn school lol
did anybody read batman: the widening gyre? i was told it's better than cacophony by a huge margin...
did the new chew come out?
idk if chew is out cuz it wasnt in the shop..might check again tomoro...return is about the zombies from Zombies 2 who were teleported to other dimensions..and where they end up..this first issue dealt with where spider man ended up, and what he does.
widening gyre was ok...art is getting better, in some cases pretty neat. i guess we'll see where it goes..hey, atleast its better than the regular Batman's current run.
^^^so is the zombies return thing a series of one shots?
i dl'ed widening gyre...it's pretty good...smith's toned down his typical authorial voice quite a bit but it creeps in occasionally and his poison ivy seems completely mischaracterized imo...i did like his line about nightwing: "he pulled a ME." lol...and the art's improved alot, the arkham sequences were particularly well done but it still looks like ass a few times lol
the spider-man one right? iron man comes out next week too..
ill probably pick it up at the end of the week.
and about f4

so..based on, that..eloels, whats ur verdict..btw..that last image isnt viewable.
didn't they just do alternate reality/future versions of ff?
why does that book seem so difficult to pull off?
i swear the only time i've ever liked it was the john byrne era lol and i wasn't even alive then
ya FF does seem like a pain in the ass...even the best writers stumble on it. im wonderin when Hulk will leave the shitter aswell.
^^i thought the super-brief run dwayne mcduffie and paul pelletier had before mark millar came on had potential...millar's run (At least the first six or seven issues that i bought) was irritating as hell and a waste of bryan hitch's skills...i think it's a tone issue...it's like the concept of the FF is so tied with the Lee/Kirby style and tone that everyone either wants to do an homage or pastiche of that shit or try to make it modern and edgy...to me, just treat the comic as science fiction adventure stories rather than superheroes...
i think dan slott could probably save the book from a writing standpoint...his mighty avengers and spider-man work makes me think he 'gets' it...he can do the high concept stuff and still maintain a fun and jocular tone...dude used to write 'ren and stimpy' after all lol (granted i haven't read hickman's issue yet so this could be irrelevant...but secret warriors and nightly news being a completely different tone than what's called for in FF plus the fact that he said he'd never read the book before makes me wonder)
isn't Hulk in 2 titles now? banner's got his own book and red hulk is still the star of loeb's shit fest right? i don't know who could save that book...
i havent read that much f4 and i think hickman did the dark reign f4 so now hes on the main series. the last issue i bought a while back ago was when sue died issue 562
the issue was boring but i want to see where it goes from there. does the last image work? i reupped the 1st and 3rd image.
lmao at the infinity gauntlet...ahh w/e, and idk whats goin on with Hulk...they did a 600 which i didnt read, im assuming, since 601 came out..that banner has hiw on series..but idk.
Batman actually wasnt bad this issue, thing thats still annoying me is the colors..too shiny in certain places...drives me nuts..some of the art was great though.
Dat nigga Reed Richards things he's so fucking gully.
They should do a story line where a big super powered indian (warpath, or the American Eagle) come through and fuck his wife like King of da hill and John Red Corn ya sniffles?
oh man i saw the pics online about spider-man shit is crazy and its awesome to know that they disney bought them this week and this comes out
click on the pic for spoilers other wise i can't wait what they do with iron man next week
his webbing

so i DLed the last 3 issues of Batman to see if I was missing anything...to me the only interesting stuff is the Two Face/Penguin/Black Mask subplots...winnick's writing is surprisingly decent although the "two questions...who are you and where's the real batman?" was so predictable lol
agreed about the coloring, way too bright, too many purples, maroons, etc...the coloring of batman himself is too garish, it reminds me of 70s-80s batman comics...batman and robin does this type of color scheme alot better
i still hate bagley's art here, the inking isn't doing him any favors, and the figure work, backgrounds, technology is just sloppy as hell to me and the individual pages and panels seem poorly composed...he needs to take his time more...and the mopey dick grayson/smiley batman is kind of lame lol
"batman: threat or menace?"---where have i seen that before lol?
i'll continue to pass i think...batman and robin, streets of gotham, gotham city sirens, and detective of course make this book seem superfluous and just outmoded.
lmfao
"and that's just half of my warpath"
namor's got first dibs on invisible woman though
who wrote and drew this? this looks pretty cool (that damn tablet! again!) and i don't even like the zombieverse stuff that much...what other characters are they doing?
wolverine, hulk, and i forgot the other
^^^should've given one to zombie luke cage paired up with zombie iron man (if you've read the zombie arc from the last black panther series you know what i mean)
anybody reading ultimate spider-man?
the art is great...the expressions, panel/page composition, the clothing (it's sad how rare it is for characters to dress like people you see or know but this guy's nailing the fashion, especially the girls)...everything except charlie brown spider-man. but i'm glad i decided to pick up the first two issues of this as i wasn't going to after excrementum...ultimatum i mean.
guess no one read strange tales...that shit was awesome. lots of content.
^^^my shop only got like 2 copies...bastards lol
i have it on re-order
i was most interested in the doctor strange story and paul pope's lockjaw story...and of course that cover lol
are all the stories in a humorous vein?
read strange tales. its good entertainment. and all the stories were told in a humorous manner. the lockjaw story i think was my fav.
secret warriors anyone? i really am digging that book. i didnt think i would, but its consistently good.
new avengers was dope this week,i thought. my boy cage is having a heart attack?!?! what the fuck? and anybody peep that luke cage noir? im not really into the marvel noir books, but i had to cop it, just cause its power man. shits not too bad. cage really works as a noir character.
^^^ya i was just about to comment on the luke cage noir...really good stuff...the daredevil noir was also dope
i think bendis is planning on putting cage out of commission for a little bit, probably to give hawkeye more shine...in the preview for The List, Luke Cage was hospitalized...which begs the question...wouldn't Osborn and co. take the opportunity to arrest his ass?
ya i was talking about ultimate comics spider-man...i think the art is great with the exception of spidey looking like a hydrocephalic 10 year old...the expressiveness of the characters and the sense of motion is what sells it...and i love the look of the characters, particularly the girls.
i'm sure the mother/daughter bankrobbers were throwaways but i want to see them again, they were funny.

great cover^
and i was just gonna mention secret werriors and new avengers, i was already a fan of warriors, but im back on the new avengers wagon as of yesterday..love the art, and the story was cool.
^^^lol
did a new issue already come out? the most reason one i have was where jonas harrow shut down osborn's armor...among other things happening of course
same issue im referin to
^^^oh ok
i'm trying to figure out the power nullifying device would give him a heart attack anyway
i think the last two issues since the conclusion of the doctor strange storyline have been really solid and probably better than the book has been since secret invasion started imo
i agree from what ive read, and about Cage's heart...u kno theyll say some shit like he has a pacemaker..eloels.
picked up deadpool and the marvel zombies..
got my ticket to the long beach comic con next month can't wait
also picked up arkham asylum for ps3. need to pay off my preorder for mua2 asap
i might get back on ASM when kelly comes back, think its 606.
^^^the next arc has black cat man...black caaaat
is anyone going to jump back onto x-factor when it goes back to it's original numbering with 200? apparently they are going to be private investigators for new york's heroes from now on...i used to follow the book and gave up on a little after messiah complex but i miss peter david's wit.
i gotta catch up because i havent read much.
the madrox miniseries and the first 20 issues or so...before messiah complex basically...are as good or better than his run on the first volume of x-factor...very different tone...it suffers from the problem alot of marvel and dc books now suffer from...not having a consistent artist for more than like 5 issues at a time.
like with new avengers...i'll be surprised if immonen's on the book by issue 60...then again it's never really had a consistent penciller...i think lienel yu stayed on the book the longest and he had like 12 issues or something lol
ya i already got the Madrox book, havent got to reading it yet..im on a strict schedule of books..eloels, right now im finishing up The Dream Country.
