all of that is just...FUCKING pathetic
ill add some points..
killah priest is boring to me..i dunno why..just cant get listen to him
canibus' first album was his best
biggie, jayz, wayne, 2pac, rakim, kane, g rap are NOT the greatest rappers of all time....there isnt one.
No said date is in my top 5 wu tang related albums
cilvaringz is better then ALOT of other killah beez
my favorite common album is BE
jay electronica, blu, fashawn, and saigon have the potential to be among the top emcees of all time
i dont like nwa, run dmc, or public enemy..respect them but dont like their music
the best emcee in slaughterhouse is joell ortiz..royce isnt that nice
ill bill and ra the rugged man are the best white emcees ever
nas and busta rhymes need to retire
last but not least...if you dont agree with everything i just said your a moron and i hate you
Jay-Z is nothin' special
G unit's first album was banging
Busta rhymes only got REALLY good after he cut his braids and took steroids
Whatever the reason Pac got killed, he probably deserved it.
good thread lol. since i missed this one i'll throw mine in now
Aesop Rock is one of the GOAT
I look foward to Bronze or Killah Priest albums more than any 'Wu General' albums
I usually prefer rock music over hip-hop
KRS-ONE is un-listenable for me
Cold Vein > best rap album ever
Sage Francis is a better rapper than most of your favorite rappers
Illmatic is overrated as hell. I only like a couple of tracks on it, and I think It Was Written is FAR superior.
Killah Priest's albums (excluding Heavy Mental) are always plagued with AWFUL production making them unlistenable.
I love Lloyd Banks Hunger For More album.
DMX's only good album is his first
D12 got criminally underrated because Em was in the group, everyone except Bizzare could spit
Joe budden is dope and is only hated on for talking shit about Meth and fucking the models the rest of you beat off to
Jedi Mind Tricks have been making the same album over and over since violent By Design
Kanye West is one of the worst rappers in history and only survives because of production and heavy amounts of Marketing
Mine aren't very provocative, but I've gotten flack on here for the one.
Doe or Die, Reasonable Doubt, and Life After Death are shameless cash-ins trying to bite off Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, but none of them have the charm or atmosphere. They all have good moments, but none of them are perfect albums IMO.
Doe or Die is probably the best of the bunch, but at its best it's just trying to be another Illmatic but with more of a mafioso theme. AZ is a pretty good rapper, but doesn't hold a candle to Nas. There is some good production, but overall the album is too short to compensate for the weaker beats (and some of the beats are just lame IMO).
Reasonable Doubt - this one is probably the most shameless G Rap/Raekwon biting album. The fake Al Pacino/Scarface voices in the beginning are goofy and just trying way too hard like Jay is waving his hands in the air screaming "me too! I wanna be a mafioso too!" "Can't Knock the Hustle" is an ok song, but it sounds way out of place with it's R&B influenced beat coming right after a skit where someone gets shot to death and Jay-Z's talking voice ("rocafella y'all) sounds really stupid to me for some reason. Can't deny that there are some great tracks on here, though, some really good flows and lyrics along with good production. Still, there's some crossover stuff that just sounds lame.
While the above 2 are basically good albums that just have things I gripe about Life After Death is the real tragedy. I've said this before. There are some absolutely phenomenal songs on here, some of the best in Big's entire discography, but for every "Somebody's Gotta Die," "Kick in the Door," "Nigga's Bleed," or "10 Crack Commandments" there's some utterly unlistenable pop-rap garbage like "Mo Money, Mo Problems," "Another," "I Love the Dough," and "Playa Hater." The last few tracks take it back to the darker territory that's way better, but they are still kind of underwhelming for me.
G Rap basically did this kind of album the right way with Roots of Evil. And it didn't need to drag on over 2 discs dotted with craptastic pop songs.
Jay-Z is not the best or the worst rapper alive. He's not worth that level of hyperbole. He's talented but has largely squandered that talented since "Reasonable Doubt"
Jurassic 5's "Quality Control" is one of the top 20 Hip-Hop albums ever. So are O.C.'s "Word...Life" and Organized Konfusion's "Stress: The Extinction Agenda".
Madlib is not overrated in the slightest.
Shaq isn't that bad of a rapper. I wouldn't listen to a track just to hear him spit, but he is fine on pretty much every track he's been on that features dope rappers. It's not like he ruined "No Hooks" or anything.
Outside of "Renegade" Eminem isn't all that great.
Mos Def is one of my favorite rappers (I am not saying he's the most technically skilled or anything, but he makes great music). "Black on Both Sides", "The Ecstatic", and the Black Star album are all classics and "The New Danger" is inconsistent but still really good.
Common is not even remotely wack. "Resurrection", "Like Water for Chocolate", and "Be" are all classics.
Speaking of Common, "Electric Circus" is a good album.
The Beastie Boys have never dropped a wack album.
I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back", "3 Feet High an Rising", and "Paul's Boutique" are the best albums in terms of sampling ever.
"Midnight Marauders" is the best Hip Hop album ever. Tribe has never released a bad album.
"2nd Round KO" is the best diss track ever hands down. Most diss tracks don't even come close and just sound childish as a result.
Lauryn Hill from 96-98 is the best female rapper ever. She also used to be hot as hell (check the video for "Doo Wop (That Thing)". She looks like a scarecrow now though.
"8 Diagrams" is the third best Wu-Tang album after their first two.
Somebody else said this already, but people who only listen to Hip-Hop are foolish. Nobody should limit themselves to only one genre. In fact, if you listen to late 80s and 90s Hip Hop and that didn't turn you on to funk, soul, jazz, reggae, etc., then you need to grow a new set of ears.
Aceyalone is one of the best rappers (in terms of skills and discography) ever.
Odd Future are both overrated and underrated. For the most part their stuff is kind of average and boring, but most of their stuff isn't terrible or amazing. I don't get why people on either side of the debate get so heated about them.
Dinco D and Charlie Brown were just as dope as Busta on the Leaders of the New School records and their verses, while not as good as Busta's, should be mentioned whenever people talk about how great "Scenario" is.
The first round of Bout Camp Clik albums ("Enta Da Stage", "Dah Shinin'", "Nocturnal", and "Da Storm") are all classics and they all belong in any top 50 Hip Hop albums of all time list.
If I was to rank all 8 BCC members, it would be Sean P first, then Steele, Rock, Buckshot, Starang, Top Dog, Tek, and Louisville Sluggah, but all of them are dope as hell (I think Top Dog or Tek could rap circles around most emcees).
There has been some amazing Hip Hop in the last 5-6 years, but for the most part since "Donuts" instrumental Hip Hop (Dilla, Madlib, Flying Lotus, Apollo Brown, etc.) has been the main force pushing the genre forward. The vast majority of the great Hip Hop released since 2006 or so has just been working with old sounds and styles.
^I must reemphasize that the above comment does not mean that there are no good rappers or that there have been no good albums with rapping on them since "Donuts". I just think that the beatmakers working on instrumental projects are the main cats advancing the art form.
If anyone disagrees with me then whatever. It's just my opinion and I respect everyone else's as long as they aren't assholes about it,
ahaha some of these are quality.
This one will get the wind blowing... Ether is the most overrated diss track in the history of hip hop
i'd agree that jay-z bit off cuban linx. however, he did it really really well. probably his best album, definitely his best lyrics.
i prefer wutang forever to 36 chambers
Ether was garbage, Takeover was better. Takeover was personal, anyone could have written Ether with its "gay-z and cock-a-fella records" lines. smh kindergarten shit
Biggie and Pac are the most overrated MCs of all time and if they hadn't died they'd probably be forgotten at this point
Waka Flocka >>>> 99% of these "conscious" "lyrical" rappers people dickride. Good music >>> intellectual lyrics.
Rick Ross is one of the best out right now cause he makes good music.
Juicy J made the same mixtape 3 times in a row and all 3 are awesome
Jay-Z washed marshall on Renegade
Common has more wack albums than he does good ones
Busta Rhymes has spit the same verse for the last 5 years....and it's only good cause he raps fast
Andre 3000 has sucked for the last 5 years
Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang >>>> Cuban Linx 2
