Overdone and boring.
underground/hardcore rap ain't been hot since Monkey Bars dropped.
underground/hardcore rap is JUST AS WACK as mainstream hip-hop right now.
Hip-Hop fans don't know what they want, first they want everyone to rap hard, but they complain about fake gangsters, then everyone starts being themselves and the rap isn't that hard anymore and now it's too soft.
75% of underground hip-hop is wack.
There are too many niggaz rhyming like Wu-Tang in the underground/hardcore hip-hop scene, it's ok to be influenced by them but DAMN.
Jay-Z>>>>>Underground Rap
Drake ==== Bone Thugs, not in terms of rhyming, but musically. They both rap & sing. except one raps about killings and drugs and smoking, the other raps about cash, hoes, and ballin. and 99.9% of people on this site can't relate to either side. but bone is singing about killings so they get a pass.
Alot of people are calling albums classics cause they dropped in the 90's....NOT.
2003-04 last good years of hip-hop.
Ironman>Liquid Swords
Hip-Hop is being taken over by the gay community.
90% of 90's rappers need to put down the mic, yall killing yall legacy.
90% of new rappers are wack.
Beats are slightly more important than lyrics...i'd say 55/45
Rappers that Preach too much are corny. Nas is the perfect balance of a rapper who can preach and still be lyrical and street.
TOO MANY WU CLONES IN UNDERGROUND RAP.
JEDI MIND TRICKS ARE THE ONLY WU CLONES TO MAKE IT IN THE GAME by REVERSE ENGINEERING. tell me VBD doesn't sound like it came from the Killa Bee camp.
The end.
hollow dartz that post was depressing as fuck cos most of its probably true.
but this year was a good hip hop year imo.
and buckshots earlier post it just sounds like you're bored of common, andre, busta. i bee bored of nas for a while. probably heard him too much.
AGREE
AGREE
AGREE to most of this
i hate when somebody says an underground/hardcore track is HOT. a friend of mine told me that "Killah Emcees" was "HOT" I wanted to shoot him.
Majority of what Canibus is criticized for is what majority of emcees get a pass for
Tupac and Biggie Smalls are overrated (the later to a lesser degree)
Lil B will change Hip-Hop
Royce Da'59" is Eminem's bitch
Lupe Fiasco is overrated
J.Cole is average
Erykah Badu's pussy must be good
Eminem is garbage
lol ^^^ i think those are very popular opinions leelu
My "unpopular" opinion on hip-hop:
Gangster rap is an art
It is the art-form (albeit a sub-genre) that, by far, best reflects America, and the American way of life.
My "unpopular" opinion of this thread after reading through much of it:
white people should stay out of hip-hop
white people shouldn't even listen to hip-hop, they should just spend their money on the cd, or the download, or the concert ticket, and then proceed to that pass off
white people can't stand to see or hear a Black person speak intelligently, hence this thread's "conscious rap" and "rappers droppin knowledge" backlash
white people still pretty much only see Black entertainment, particularly rappers, as a bunch of shucking-and-jiving minstrels. This is evident by the numerous posts in this thread calling hip-hop, and even it's fans, childish, narrow minded, stupid etc...
If hip-hop is dead, it's not because of faggots like lil wayne and the like, it's because faggots like y'all in this thread thinking Tupac is wack and Rakim is corny and other dumb shit like that.
Whites are taking over hip hop.
White emcees are generally more intelligent.
have always thought eminem is shit and i think his whole tough guy routine is a facade picking on M.J Moby Britney Spears....be a man you stupid fucker
Retarded? That's just your opinion, but none of what I said is untrue.
Being a small percentage of a population, a "subculture", does not limit the ability to "reflect" attributes of the larger entity. Violence, immorality, taking advantage of the weak, being territorial of territory that is not even yours, are all as American as apple pie and baseball. Sex, drugs, rebellious youth...
Gangster rap is the classic American tale of trying to "pull yourself up by the boot straps" (as misguided as the methods may be)
I never said that in my post. America has an overt history of attempting to relegate Blacks to entertainment. History repeats itself, but this history, never really became "history".
P.S. Generalization is often used to simplify and expedite discourse
C'mon fella, this thread is about hip-hop/musical opinions. And I actually said: "If hip-hop is dead"
i dont get how people can come to the conclusion that 2pac was overrated, how?
define what a rapper is,not every mc has to be super lyrical to be considered a great rapper.people still think the man is fuckin alive,he had a ridiculous work ethic, his music was soulful, powerful, relevant, socially aware, inspiring, etc etc etc
i think some of you should stop taking your prescribed medication
thats my opinion.
