@GoldenChild : Serbs, Croatians, people living in Bosnia etc etc do hold grudges, can confirm from family ties & trips. but what do you expect when relatives get killed? the wounds don't heal. I will say there's a stubborn mentality too but who am I to judge.
Any of you people gonna let some Ukrainians stay at your house? Its millions coming thru Europe now.
If I can choose who stays I would do it
I think Turkey did threaten military action against Serbia back then but the US threatened Turkey if it pulled off such a thing.
The Ottomans just like any other imperialistic empire left a sour taste in the lands it ruled, for a good chunk of time they managed it well. I mean most Serb Lords sided with the Ottomans against the Catholics, Serbs rose to basically run the empire. I mean how Turkish is the empire when the ruling elite were all muslim converts & not ethnically Turkish? I think like one Sultan had a Turkish mother, the rest were all foreign. The main blame towards the Ottomans is that as the world progressed in the 18th and 19th century the Ottomans were still stuck in the 15th. They ran the empire to the ground and along with it everyone who lived there. So the Balkans mainly blame the Ottomans for holding them back while Western Europe progressed. Though that Ottoman culture from the late era of the empire still lives on strong in the Balkans because all the nations are petty, corrupt & poor, so not much has changed.
Places like Bosnia and Serbia are more Ottoman culturally than Turkey is for example. Ottoman customs are more part of their daily lives than it is in Turkey where it was flushed out. Like in Turkey coffee consumption isn't that high, coffee was like the main thing of the Ottomans, where it is high is in the Balkans.
As for electing a fascist. Erdogan came into power with a liberal agenda, he brought more democracy to Turkey than anyone else. His party even championed gay rights back in the day, he gave Kurds more rights than anyone else opening schools, TV stations and everything they wanted. Then what happened? The bulk of the population began demanding more freedoms, the youth are very European orientated more so than most Eastern European countries. They wanted more democracy and freedoms and Erdogan didn't want to give. So after 2010 things changed drastically and he turned Turkey into a China like party state. They own everything, they run everything, the top brass of his party have all become billionaires. If you want a job? you became a party member. They have party members who are board members on 10 different state companies, receiving a hefty wage from each role.
Problem is Erdogan's core vote is still 40% and Turkish elections are free and fair, there's no funny business during the count. Conservatives and islamists, Turkey's uneducated (which there is a lot of) admire him, so much so some even call him a prophet. He wins elections simple as. I wouldn't call him a fascist but a full blown autocrat who used the tools provided to him by democracy to undermine it. Erdogan gained power by using the media which is owned by businessmen aligned to him, referendums and elections. Erdogan gets 51% of the vote and that's enough for him to run the country as he see's fit. In the past 19 years he has destroyed every institution and filled them up with lackeys. So there is no one to oppose him, even the once great military has been succumbed to his will.
The elections next year will be massive as Erdogan with his daft economic theory has destroyed the economy. It's complete trash now with inflation above 40%, the currency is trash and all this is directly because of Erdogan who thinks he is an economic wizard. This actually makes it an easy win for the opposition in Turkey to defeat Erdogan in an election but the opposition itself is fractures. It's made up of 6 political parties + the main Kurdish party. So you have right wingers, social democrats, islamists, liberal islamists and Kurds in the same political block. They would win easily actually if they just vote together but now till the election Erdogan will do all in his power to split them up. The opposition is only united in their hatred for Erdogan and Syrian refugees and that's what will be Erdogan's downfall. Not the trash economy, not his authoritarianism but it will be Turkeys huge refugee problem as even Erdogan worshippers don't want the 5million Syrians and Afghans in the country.
Major shout out to the Russia supporters in this thread lol this has been an extraordinary failure and now countries who were planning to remain neutral and out of the EU & NATO are pushing for inclusion and western countries are pushing through plans to lean away from gas & oil while increasing their military strength
Putin has managed to get then West to stop being pussies, China must be upset
You’re a faggot btw a giant faggot
The U.S. should have stayed neutral. No sanctions on Russia no supplying weapons and funds to the Ukraine. Government can't help themselves to get involved in war. I'm sure it's making some elite richer by the second, While the working class can't afford a tank of gas. Funny how both parties can actually agree since forever on one issue, it couldn't be their campaign funds are being upped by military contracts
^ The other side to that is if Russia or China became more powerful it certainly wouldn't help the US economy either. Plus the US is relatively liberal and see themselves as global ambassadors for democracy. I don't think its possible for the US gov to say or do nothing in this situation without making the world and themselves a lot less politically stable.
8th anniversary of the 'liberation' of Crimea. Putler's throwing a party in Moscow. OAPs & students are driven into the capital by the busload TO MAKE IT CLAP
The Russians claim to have fired hypersonic missile/rocket. that would be the first documented (?) use of this type of weapon in a war
Russia is sticking to traditional warfare so far, even if they are using these new missiles. Who knows what will happen next. They could definitely take it a step further but I don't think they want to give NATO an excuse for a counter attack. I don't dare make any predictions.
Germany and Qatar just closed a long term natural resources energy deal. First step away from Putler's gas & oil. The package also includes renewable energy but we'll see if that's more than just greenwashing the deal. In any case renewable energy is needed to comply w/ the EU Green Deal
