Not surprised he got cut.
teams should take note on how to keep cap space & stay competitive by offering these type of contracts to their franchise players (or they'll become like Baltimore)
http://www.csnbayarea.com/sites/csnb...ers-podium.jpg
Only fully guaranteed are a $12.328 million signing bonus, base salary of $645,000, and a workout bonus of $100,000. (AP)
The initial reports, which come from sources who invariably want to make the deal sound better than reality, were a seven-year deal (including the upcoming season) for up to $126 million, including more than $60 million guaranteed.
Even Kaepernick intimated during his press conference that the numbers were not as they seemed.
“Part of the way the contract is written and the way it was negotiated was so they would be able to sign other players,” Kapernick said. “That was something that my agents and the organization worked out and they felt like this was something they would be able to get other players with.”
As it turns out, the initial numbers were are highly deceptive, according to a league source with knowledge of the deal who sent the details to Pro Football Talk.
Instead of more than $60 million guaranteed, the actual contract includes only $13.073 million in fully guaranteed money. The rest of the money is guaranteed for injury only:
The only fully guaranteed aspects of the deal are a $12.328 million signing bonus, a base salary of $645,000, and a workout bonus of $100,000 in the first year of the deal.
With those figures, Kaepernick’s salary cap figure in 2014 would be approximate $3.8 million.
Still, the relatively low cap figure for 2014 leaves the 49ers with flexibility to make other deals.
The rest of the so-called guaranteed money comes in the form of base salaries in 2014-‘17, and part of 2018, which are guaranteed for injury only.
In other words, if the 49ers experience buyer’s remorse, they can release Kaepernick and only absorb the remaining prorated money from his signing bonus as a hit on the salary cap.
The deadline for the 49ers to pick up the base salary on Kaepernick’s contract comes on April 1 of each year. His base salaries:
2015: $12.4 million
2016: $13.9 million
2017: $16.5 million
2018: $17 million – with $5.2 million guaranteed for injury only by the April 1 deadline.
Then, Kaepernick has non-guaranteed base salaries in 2019 of $18.8 million and, in 2020, of $21 million.
And that’s not all that makes this a very low-risk deal for the 49ers:
Starting in 2015, Kaepernick has $2 million annually in per-game roster bonuses. In essence, he'll lose $125,000 for every game in which he does not suit up.
The deal also requires Kaepernick to purchase, with after-tax dollars, a disability policy that pays the 49ers $20 million if he suffers a career-ending injury.
Kaepernick will earn $400,000 a year via workout bonuses, beginning next offseason.

There are very few players that leave a footprint on a professional sports league like “The Boss” Derrick Ross has already left in the Arena Football League. In Week 13, the Philadelphia Soul fullback became the AFL’s all-time rushing touchdowns leader, surpassing Arena Football Hall of Famer Barry Wagner with 129 rushing scores. The feat only adds to the laundry list of accolades that Ross has earned during his four seasons in the AFL.
“First of all, what Derrick has done in terms of rushing touchdowns will never be touched again in the amount of time that he did it,” said Soul head coach Clint Dolezel. “Someone may catch up to the amount of touchdowns but not nearly in the amount of time he accomplished it in.”
Success was apparent for Ross even before Arena ball, as the six-foot, 250-pound back was a two-time NJCAA All-American at Blinn College, as well as a two time NCAA Division II All-American at Tarleton State University. At Tarleton, Ross still holds a handful of records, including rushing for 269 yards in a single game. He also set single-season school marks for rushing yards, points, and touchdowns.
His success caught the attention of the Kansas City Chiefs, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2006. “The Boss” appeared in seven games with the Chiefs before going international, spending a season with the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe as well as two years in the Canadian Football League.
Coming into the AFL in 2011, Ross didn’t miss a beat. He broke single-season rookie records for the most rushing attempts with 167, most rushing yards with 622, and most rushing touchdowns with 39, earning First Team All-Arena honors in the process.
Since joining the Soul in 2012, “The Boss” has claimed two more All-Arena nods, and as the 2014 season leader in every rushing category, he looks to do so again this year. He has led the League in rushing every year since coming to the League, holds the top three spots for all-time single season rushing yards and, with 318 yards in this 2014 season, Ross also holds the AFL record for most seasons with 200 or more rushing yards.
“Oh wow, that’s amazing,” Ross said when notified of his accomplishments. “We’ve been losing so much it wasn’t even in my mind. It’s a team game and we’re trying to win ballgames. But that’s amazing. It’s a true testament to [Soul coach] Clint Dolezel and the offensive linemen.”
Dolezel is quick to send the praise back to his All-League fullback.
“It’s purely amazing and a credit to what a good football player and running back he is,” said Dolezel. “He makes our offense go, he has for all the years that he’s been with me in the Arena Football League. We do run the ball more than most teams but there’s a reason we do and that’s because of how good Derrick runs with the rock.”
Despite Ross’ many successes, he has no plans to rest on his laurels.
“Anytime you break a record in a professional league, it’s something special,” Ross said. “You’ve got to acknowledge the guys before you that actually set the bar. To all the great players that played before me, it’s a true testament of what I’m trying to do in the Arena Football League, which is trying to change the game. I’m not going to stop, I’m going to keep going.”
Ross is more than just a runner as well. During his time under Dolezel’s tutelage, Ross has developed into a solid pass blocker and receiver.
“He’s not just a one weapon guy, he can do it all,” Dolezel said. “He’s really turned into a good overall football player as well and his blocking has gotten tremendously better. I don’t think this League will ever see a guy quite like Derrick Ross again.”
Despite all his personal success, Ross is still chasing the ultimate team goal, the ever so elusive ArenaBowl championship. The journey continues as the Soul (6-6) battle in state rival the Pittsburgh Power (9-3) in Philadelphia this weekend.

--- Troubled former NFL receiver Titus Young arrested again
A day before former Lions receiver Titus Young was to appear in court for a hearing regarding four felony counts, he got arrested for another felony.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Young was arrested on July 9 and charged with battery with serious bodily injury and was being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. He was also charged with four misdemeanor counts of battery of school, park or hospital property. Bail was set at $105,000, the Free Press said.
The Los Angeles sheriff's department wouldn't give the Free Press details of the arrest.
Young's promising NFL career fell apart due to him acting out within the team, such as purposely lining up in the wrong place, and getting in trouble off the field. He was arrested three times in one week during May of 2013 on DUI charges, felony burglary and assaulting a police officer, and was facing 11 charges in all. That trial was delayed while Young got treatment. He was scheduled to make an appearance for a pretrial hearing on those counts.
Now Young faces even more legal troubles, as his sad story continues to get worse.
