he can't beat B-Hop in his prime
Calzaghe would've lost to Dawkins in the next year if he continued to fight. I don't even consider him to the boxing hall of fame. He barely beat 42 yr old Hopkins by SD. A fight that I had Hopkins winning because Calzaghe didn't hurt him with those slaps he calls punches. Plus Calzaghe hasn't fought anyone worthy until a couple years ago.
and don't even bring up the roy jones fight, RJJ in his prime would have danced circles around joe
calzaghe was overrated by brits and underrated by americans... he was definitely very good...
he had impressive wins over bika, lacey and kessler when all were supposed to be legitimate threats... plus regardless of who was in their prime he has wins over hopkins, jones and eubanks who are/will be all hall of famers...
you can pick apart anyone's win-loss record... eg 3 of hopkins biggest victories are against smaller guys moving up in weight... trinidad, de la hoya and wright... his other two biggest wins are against tarver and pavlik and their legacy isn't certain...
but at the same time you can say that a lot of people favoured trinidad, pavlik and tarver and hopkins won these matches convincingly... this isn't a knock on hopkins (who is one of my favourite boxers)... i'm just proving that you can pick almost anyone apart... the names joppy, allen, echols and holmes won't be in the hall of fame but were decent boxers who contributed to the executioners impressive record... just like calzaghe has wins over sheika, reid, mitchell and brewer that helped him compile his...
like him or not, 46-0 is impressive...
Calzhage is a great fighter. RJJ ducked everyone until his ass got knocked out by a few bums and he got dominated by Tarver, so its Roy's fault he didn't fight no one in his prime.
Hopkins is a great fighter, but he lost to Calzaghe and both were not young either. If your considering Hopkins great and Jones Jr great and Joe beat BOTH of them, I don't see how you can deny it.
This guy should def. be a hall of famer whether you likehis style or not.
^I have to disagree with you. Joe was 36, Hopkins was 43, which still is a significant difference in age. It was that fight when I started to look at Cal as overrated. He should've handled Hopkins, but he didn't even clearly win the fight. Roy Jones was done years ago. His biggest win is against Lacy, who has turned to be a boxing bust, and hasn't really done anything impressive after he fucked up his shoulder.
Joe is a great boxer, and had a long career, but hall of famer? I don't think so. Maybe if he didn't retire on the fact that he may be beaten before 49.
mayweather who retired recently is better
Former WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito has had his licence revoked for one year by the California State Athletic Commission.
why?
Margarito and trainer Javier Capetillo have been banned for putting a plaster-like substance under Margarito's hand wraps for his fight with Shane Mosley.
shameful
^ I read that since he was not suspended, but rather had his liscence revoked, that it could easily be more than a year! Fine with me, though... It's sickening to me that a fighter, trainer, etc. would do this considering the possible consequences. Do ya'll look at the Cotto victory as tainted now??
^Na, it wouldn't suprise me if he had that same substance in his gloves for that match too. On ESPN it was showing his manager saying that it was an outrage, and if he wasn't mexican, the suspension wouldn't be near as long. He also said that Top Rank would never fight in the state of Cailfornia again, but they'll keep Margarito active with fights in Mexico.
What bullshit about his manager playing the race card like that lol! So his manager spoke for Bob Arum and said TOP RANK wouldn't fight in CA or that his team wouldn't fight in CA again? I can't see Arum pulling all future cards from the state, that would be nuts. I agree that Tony probably used loaded gloves against Cotto too, making it a tainted victory for sure. Peace-

Cotto: Margarito gives sport 'black eye'

NEW YORK -- Former welterweight champion Miguel Cotto doesn't believe Antonio Margarito should be allowed to fight anywhere after his boxing license was revoked by the California State Athletic Commission.
Margarito, who punished Cotto last summer to win the title, had his license taken away for one year Tuesday after illegal wraps were discovered on his hands before a loss last month to Shane Mosley. The commission's decision will likely be upheld in other states.
Margarito's trainer, Javier Capetillo, also lost his license for at least one year.
"I think if it's up to me, we should all abide by the rule that was made," Cotto said during a conference call Wednesday. "He was suspended for one year, he should be suspended everywhere. He has to abide by the rules and I think if he can't fight in the United States, he shouldn't be able to fight at all."
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who attended the hearing, called the ruling "an outrage" and has said Margarito will likely appeal. In the meantime, Arum said it's possible that Margarito could fight in Mexico, where decisions made in the United States are often not upheld.
"He has to make a living and he has a right to fight anyplace that will license him," Arum said Wednesday. "Mexico has indicated, or certain places in Mexico, have indicated they'll give him a license."
Arum promotes both fighters and had tentative plans to match them in another big-money fight later this summer. Unless Margarito wins his appeal, Cotto isn't interested.
"This is not a good thing for boxing. It gives boxing another black eye -- another incident boxing doesn't need," said Cotto (32-1, 26 KOs), who will fight unheralded Michael Jennings for the vacant WBO title on Feb. 21 at Madison Square Garden.
"You go into the ring thinking you're all playing by the same rules. This is sport, this isn't a slaughterhouse. This is about fighting at the best of your abilities," Cotto added, speaking through a translator. "We should all go in the ring and be ready to fight with what we have, our own abilities and our own preparation."
What does Arum think of the discord between two of his top fighters?
"Miguel is certainly entitled to his opinion," he said. "I have expressed my opinion. I don't say everybody has to agree with me."
A few minutes before Margarito (37-6, 27 KOs) entered the ring to fight Mosley on Jan. 24, his trainer Naazim Richardson objected to the way Margarito's hands were being wrapped. When the tape was cut off, a plaster-like substance was found nestled tightly inside the usual tape on the Mexican fighter's fists.
Mosley went on to dominate Margarito, stopping him in the ninth round to win the WBA version of the welterweight title.
"All I know is when everybody gets their hands wrapped, they know what's in them," Cotto said. "They know if there's something in their hand wraps or not. As a fighter, you know if there's something in there."
Cotto refused to speculate whether Margarito had a similar substance on his wraps when they fought last July, a close, bloody bout that ended in the 11th round when Cotto's corner threw in the towel.
"They're the only ones that can answer that question. I can't answer that," Cotto said. "All I can tell you is I choose to think he had a good night."

peace ryn and benzo, for real its BS to use tricks like that. didnt get him far anyway.
even worse, i'm sure people he beat five years ago will claim their losses are tainted as well...
Anyone watch the fights on HBO last night? All 3 of the fights were entertaining. Altough Martinez was robbed against Cintron. Cintron was down and not completely off the canvas by the ten count. Then, he started acting like a bitch when he clearly was knocked down by a punch, not headbutt, and the fight continued for some reason. Then, it came out to be a draw. In my eyes, Martinez handled Cintron the entire fight.
Cintron is the biggest crybaby faggot in boxing next to Tarver. Remember how he quit against Margarito in their first fight haha...
Cintron sucks ass. But thats already been established.
I would love to see Clottey beat him down. They were originally scheduled to fight each other. And Kermit is going back down to 147. God I can't wait for Cintron to get knocked out by someone other than Margarito.
Campbell - Judah would be a great fight.
Clottey can't get a fight it seems
anyone know where i can watch the fight for free online (good quality too)?
plus magarito took kermit cintros title and gave him his only loses i saw the fight where he fought that argentine boxer which he should have lost but ended in a draw.
anyway i think pac-man would beat floyds ass, a win by knockout. thats my dream match right now.
Tonight was the fucking fight of the year. I have gained great respect for Juan Diaz for fighting like a warrior tonight.
Juan Diaz fought very bravely, and was giving Marquez lots of problems in the beginning rounds. But Marquez adjusted and started to load up on combinations, and that uppercut was doing so much damage, along with the body shots, they definitely slowed the Baby Bull down. At the end of the day, experience beat youth and aggression once again. Now on to Wright-Williams...
I had Diaz winning till that 9th round. I could barely hear the tv, but why were Kellerman and Lampley talking about Diaz having the advantage in the late rounds?
I hope Wright KO's Williams in the first 5 rounds. I Saw Winky at the Casino two weeks ago, I hope he's taking his training seriously.
Williams will beat wright. paul is the best right now around that weight class
Williams has not been truly tested yet. Sharmba Mitchell, Carlos Quintana, and Antonio Margarito w/ bricks in his gloves are not as good as Winky Wright. Paul will most likely win but...it's not going to be a free ride to victory like his last three fights have been.

PBF vs. Marquez???
Sounds good. Hope this isn't his idea of a warm up for Pacquiao.
Pacquiao will beat Hatton with ease. Hatton is a great fighter, but, his weakness is straight shots. Hooks and uppercuts wont phase him, but straights will. Look at his fight with Floyd. He ate rights the whoole night. That left-straight is Pac-man's money punch, I have a feeling he will be landing it all night. But then again, we haven't seen the 'new' Hatton to well, as Floyd Sr. proclaims. If it's old Hatton we see, he will lose, but we have yet to see new and improved Hatton.
does anyone here do boxing?
^I'm pretty sure Prince Rai does
yes he does.
But i taught him how to fight...im beat him every time we box.
:O
i box also but lately i been becoming a mixed martial artist.
^^you hyped up for July 11?
I don't know if you guys have heard, but the fight between Wladimir Klitschko & David Haye has been finalized. It will take place June 20th likely in Germany.
What Klitschko had to say about the fight...
"I am happy to have this fight. I have had a lot of opponents with big mouths, but I never had an opponent with such a big mouth like David Haye," Klitschko said. "I will be pleased to shut his big mouth with my big fist. None of the opponents I have had were as provocative as David Haye, so I am glad to shut his mouth by putting my fist in his mouth. There is no way this fight will go the whole distance. It's a signature fight for me and I am happy."
If Mayweather Jr. comes back I hope it's vs. Shane Mosley, and not Marquez.
