Pure genius. This also brings separates the die hard Wu-Heads from the sometimey ones.
innovative idea i will give them that
but the core fan base was cut off from ever owning this CD............... you think this box is coming around to your city anytime soon? are you gonna make the drive to some large city with a muesum or some shit, just to hear the album once? aint like you get to see them live in concert................
doesnt separate anyone, because the majority of wu fans arent fuckin millionaires and if they are, do you think they want the CD or the really expensive box
There had to be more to this. And if not then it's a bad idea.
Wu-Tang for the children.........not anymore if this joke of an idea is true.
RZA is probably going to deliver a piss poor final album in ABT, so why can't Cilvaringz give us fans what we desire, the Wu sounding like its the 90's again.
Nope, he would rather join RZA in acting all Hollywood with his ideas and outlook.
Poor move Cilva, but then you did warn us we would kick off about this........
after i read some more of the article and posts in here, i guess, if some label buys this up then it might turn out okay for the fans but thats a big risk to take
but the evasive nature of it all makes it just seem like a money grab and stunt. i dislike that very much, but as they say, controversy sells.
but as a fan and a collector, im let down big time
What happens when the one copy of the album get scratched at the third venue of the "tour"?
I will give Cilva 30-50 bux right now if I could skip the museum part and buy the CD. Think this is what 99 percent of us want. Album has been talked about for what 2 years now and honestly I dont think we will ever hear it. Nobody on this site can be happy after reading this article because I think it puts the album even farther from us. All those Wu Stan dream features seem like a big tease right now. Hope I am wrong and hear this album soon. On a side note-why is Sinfillycute so negative always. Peace
Fucking brilliant idea. All these cat's complaining over nothing knowing damn well they gonna get their asses out of their bedrooms and to a gallery to hear this shit.
Just let me choose what headphones to use.
NO BULLSHIT RZA/DRE HEADPHONES.
Cilvaringz basically already alluded to it being available to the public at some point. Could be a while though.
Anybody who pays to listen to this shit needs to die.
This is the most pretentious thing that's ever happened in music. And for what? A fucking bunch of no-hopers from the ghetto who don't actually have any musical talent (well maybe Rza), and wouldn't even know a C from a G or what a key is. It actually makes me angry how ridiculous and pretentious this is. I really would like to spit on anybody who pays to hear this shit. Acting like a fucking bunch of bums kicking simple rhymes over samples of music that somebody else wrote and played is some sort of sacred fucking art. Get over yourselves for fucks sake.
I'm not having a go at hip hop as a whole. I appreciate and enjoy it for what it is. I don't pretend these guys are real musicians though. The thing is, even if Radiohead or Nick Drake or somebody had pulled some shit like this I would be incensed at how pretentious it is.
Fuck I hope this fails as miserably as you'd surely expect it to.
no they arent, thats the problem.
they are no venues in my city that play into this idea. therefore i need to drive to some major city just to hear the album once (unless it finds a normal release)........ you dont even have to pay 30-50$ for any new release on CD, and you can keep that shit.
the main issue i have with all this, is that it just makes us all look like suckers dangling from a hook. they got us all baited........
This will probably never come to Australia and on the off chance it ever did it would 1) cost $50-70 and 2) probably be the last leg of the world tour and be 5 years later
I ain't paying the same amount to hear a fucking Cilvaringz record one time as I have to see the Ancient Egypt Pharoah's exhibit Lmao
Anyone who goes to a museum to hear this shit a sucker, straight up.
Perhaps, the marketing process consists just in manipulating our perception of an album value and our response to the question : how much would i pay to own this (like for the heavy mental unreleased songs LP, the heavy mentwo one, the Killa Sin LP or what it was supposed to be ; in few words : the 50-100$ LP). You publish a fantasmatic story at the first promo stage, make a few moves later and finally sell it at a high but more "decent" price (50-100-200... a 99,999999...99 % off sale lol) that you couldn' t justify at first. This is the business part. It's a common technique.
But the main question is : who wants to listen this in 2014 ? Even for free ?
A simple misconception about what those who loved the Wu in its prime can appreciate today and the reasons why a song can touch people can void all this. This is the artistic part.
And perhaps it is totally something else.
Two questions I really need answering:
1/ What if I decide to go late afternoon to the museum, the headphones will probably be covered in Wu-Stan sweat by this point, and probably to an extent, Wu-Stan-Seaman. How will this be addressed?
2/ Are the likes of Hollowfartz and FathersCrime banned from going to the museum and listening to this also? How will this be enforced?
its creation of demand when its already there. they are just dictating how its going to be released and how the fans can go about getting it/pay for it.
Heres an important question. Will the museums even allow this? My guess is not many would approve. Peace
I was vaguely interested in this album until I realized I'll never hear it.
"Daddy, how come we've been eating stale bread for dinner all week?"
"Well Junior, that's because Daddy had to put aside this week's grocery money so that he could hear the new album by a group of no-hopers who kicked some pretty fly rhymes a couple of decades ago when they were in their prime and actually got along with each other. These days they're like a pack of little school girls who bicker amongst themselves constantly, but surely that's no reason why they can't make the greatest piece of music ever, worthy of a $50 single listening."
"Ok Daddy. I understand. You're such a good daddy. I love you."
peace I hope this really gets released on cd vinyl or even cassette really don't care as long as you can buy a physical copy of this but the wait for this is just crazy cilvaringz should just release and get it over with already or tell us its never going to be released just be honest with it because all this wait is not needed almost I think 3 years that thread been going on its coming well if its coming where the hell is it lol :) for real we all been patient well most of us this is the first post I have done about this I don't think we need no more bull shit about this just RELEASE IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!
peace
Bold move, didn't see it coming. I like it. Will be very interesting to see what the purchaser decide to do with it.
Could be a rich eccentric wu-head who buys it and never shares it with anyone.... making it the album people talk/speculate about for years, but never get to hear....
Or could be a lable/company who use it for some kind of promo (a la Samsung with Jay-Z).
Either way, the point of the project being released this way (so far as I can tell) isn't to rip off fans by charging $50 to hear the album once.... it's to make a statement about the music: Albums used to be special. A body of work to be appreciated and absorbed. Now things are so readily accessible and disposable - people don't appreciate the product as a piece of art.
(Some albums don't deserve to be treated as art, but that's another debate altogether.)
To Ringz: I say bravo. I hope you pull this off.
lol at this idea...where is that Wu Fails thread?
pretty genius marketing idea. regardless of anything else; the more unique
the idea, the more discussion it'll provoke.
I don't really post on this board but I have been a member for a years now and check out the forum from time to time.
I think this idea is little far fetched, firstly Wu commercially are no Jay Z in terms of sales. So Samsung, Sony or Apple would never pay 1 mil let alone 5 mil for this to leak it or release it. Cilvaringz may get a few people going to the museum's to listen to it, but the novelty will soon die and no will give a shit about it. End of the day people want a copy to listen to where and when they want, that's the purpose of music. Lol art yeah right. No one will buy the "one" copy for a million $/£, so ringz will end up selling it to label for much less who will release it, just like he did with the WuKi package.
I'm a bit disappointed with Ringz, as he always hypes up things, asks for fans opinions and views on which version is better, saying he working on this and that etc, etc. He posts the names of the artists on each track of this album, gets everyone hyped up, then he pulls this shady move.
Cilvaringz let me ask you one question:
Being a Wu fan like all of us on this board, how would you feel if you been waiting for this to drop and getting all hyped up then being told nah one copy go to a museum and experience it there?
You'd be pissed, like most on this forum. And I'm not hattin' on you Ringz, I actually think you're a dope producer and I copped your debut the day it was released.
so this person who pays in the millions for the box, do they buy the rights to the masters as well?
^^^thats what I'd like to know. Who owns the publishing?
According to the reporter behind the Forbes article:
"The purchase price covers the master recordings and the producer's publishing rights. The guest artists who contributed to songwriting and production retain their own publishing. Wu-Tang retains the right to 'tour' the album."
Cilvaringz said he wouldn't let us down. Its not a nice thought if Cilvaringz wants this to be a commonplace in the future. Imagine all your favorite artists selling single copy albums to art collecting banker douche types.
At that point i'd just give up and listen to myself play guitar.
I don't think that has any chance of happening though. This is more of a novelty idea. Its cool though hopefully the installation will have some cool shit in it besides the music, maybe some wu-tang artefacts, footage etc.
Cilvaringz also only sold one copy of "I" so no big deal
I honestly wouldn't go to a gallery to listen if it was free, regardless of the artist.
Haha, fucken classic.
Word homie. Couldn't agree more.Quote:
I honestly wouldn't go to a gallery to listen if it was free, regardless of the artist.
The only thing I can think of that would be worse than sitting in a lifeless museum listening to an album on headphones, would be sitting in a lifeless museum listening to a DOUBLE album on headphones.
lol philistines, you never went to an art gallery before noel?
