i try to listen to other NY rap still, but listening to marciano (and guys associated with him) makes me not want to honestly. spent this afternoon driving around - found myself just playing rm tracks on repeat. and every time i think i have all his tracks, i'll hear some random feature verse from years ago that renders what everyone else does redundant.
the alchemy of marci on a beat transfixes me (nh) to the point where i have to stan everything he does. sometimes more so when he's rapping over his own production - but the way he mails in seamless, outshining features on any beat makes other rappers look like fucking amateurs.
people lament the demise of new york's rap hegemony, but i really couldn't care less. most of the guys i liked from the 90s and early 00s just got arrogant and lazy (if they already weren't).
like most of the best artists, rm just keeps it low key and stays true/sees through his impulses unimpinged by outside influence.
i don't know whether to incorporate guys like westside gunn and conway (and ka for that matter) into this thread. but the stuff they've released, particularly this year, has been great. they don't really have the same quality marciano does as rappers, but their stuff is thoughtful, conceptual (not in the cliche way most music is) and musical. ny rap at some point just devolved into "dope verses" on "hot beats" as oppose to making good tracks.
that thing conway release this year, 50 round drum, is a labyrinth.
ka too, but he's been making great albums for a fair while.
hella dope
^ One of his more energetic recent verses.
He's kinda like Rae in the sense that he went from spitting with more energy to having a more laid back kinda style these days. Real dope though.
What are people's opinions on Marci Beaucoup btw? I was initially a bit let down cos it wasn't as good as the previous 2 albums but overtime it has grown on me. Some good stuff on there.
eh, i wouldn't compare him to rae, because he forgot how to flow - i see where you're coming from though.
marci beaucoup was cool - i preferred The Pimpire Strikes Back though (a few pages back myself and Fathertime discussed this, from memory). some great tracks on there though.
hey mate - i'm moving house and things at the moment, but when i have re-established optical cable internets instead of just my phone's data, i'll send you what i have (saw your post in the mobb deep thread too, so i'll sort that out also, although that other guy who started a thread has way more MD stuff than i do).
and are you referring to the end of year rm wrap ups the guy does on hiphopisread?
I been listening to mostly Conway as of recently myself. Dudes a beast on the mic & to me, on par with Roc. Also been checking others such as gorilla nems, nutso, Hus & smoovth.
I agree on that beaucoup LP. Most of the tracks on that album play on Pandora so that's how I really have it a good listen. Definitely some Ill tracks on there but Still my least favourite out the collection thou
if you put all the songs Rocs on with bronson together you got your self a classic album

Whens the new album dropping?
I'm guessing first or second quarter 2017.
Cant wait for the album to drop. The Pimpster mixtape was heat too.
Remix of old Pete Rock track:

That old marciano flow is dope
always wonder if the guy who runs this channel is the same sun tzu who used to post here, probably not.
been listening to rosebudd's revenge a lot lately, really is pretty great. some issues with the mixing i guess, not hard to get past after a while though.
love how the beat and vocal sample weave around the verse on this
he's been dropping the odd mention to a part two coming soon, so maybe that'll drop this year.
some pretty great sampled tracks on there as usual also
a pretty weird one
I just started getting into reloaded this week n holy fucking Jesus @ that 'not told' beat.
Does anybody know whether that guitar was sampled or played specifically for the track?
Reloaded is a personal classic. The album flows very well from start to finish and is cinematic. Rosebudd's Revenge, although not on the same level is still a great album. I was a bit underwhelmed at first but it grew on me over time. Part 2 should be coming out fairly soon.
This 'not told' jam has me feeling a sudden urgency to try to put together some trill instrumentals with real instruments (guitar driven) to flow over. I think it's thyme to act on this shit. Probably the best use of electric guitar I've heard in a hip hop song.
Obviously I don't know for sure but id say its a sample.
yeah, it must be sampled, no info online about it that i could find. i'm curious now though, maybe someone here has the physical album and can tell us...
rm samples some great stuff.
I have the physical, Ill check later
Last night I listened to that shit stoned n then I picked up a guitar n very briefly tried to figure it n gave up n googled online to c if there was any guitar tab for it. Didn't find any but I ended up reading a thread from I guess a guitar forum where dudes were talking about playing guitar n bass for hip hop beats, n there was one dude who posted who said he regularly worked with rappers n was currently working on a track with Roc Marciano n some other cats.
Didn't c when the post was from, in relation to this track, but if it was legit (def reckon it was. Seemed like some serious musos in the discussion), it would confirm he works with real instrumentalists.
To me it sounds like it could very well have been played specifically for the track, tho it's just looped over n over rather than the dude playing the lick repeatedly throughout.
I'm currently working on my first attempt at making an instrumental to rap over, n my expectations r low, lolz. I plan to just kick a 16 at the start n solo the rest of it cos I wanna write a new lengthy solo, lolz.
Oh it was actually just a track featuring Roc Marciano...
'i just played bass on a track for a guy named Surok that has Blu and Roc Marciano on it'.
And it was bass, lolz. Like I said I was stoned, lolz.
Just listening again I def reckon it's someone playing on the track. It's the same dude playing behind the intro, so unless that whole bit behind the intro is sampled then I'm saying it's a live guitarist.
The CD booklet doesn't say anything about samples for any track
I happened upon this site last night (I'm sure it's well known by most hip hop fans)...
https://www.whosampled.com/search/?q=not+told+
Had shitloads of his songs on there, many from reloaded, but not this one. Hard to find any info. Would suggest it was a live guitarist, but then he should b credited in the cd booklet.
