i think what's more absurd is that so many hip-hop fans accept their favorite music as something musical lesser than the well recognized genres therefore not putting enough expectations and demands on artists for quality. it is understandable considering how much fucking bullshit is being praised as GENIUS, BRILLIANT and GREAT by hip-hop fans but an album like "Illmatic", "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..." or "Follow The Leader" is every bit as musical important and sophisticated as "Kind Of Blue", "Sgt. Peppers..." or whatever else masterpiece from other genres. the flow, delivery, passion and writing by the true greats like Rakim and Nas captures me in the same way as a brilliant Coltrane solo... granted, there's very few artists within hip-hop that are actually on that level, but they are out there
