to many to name.....the one in my sig is great
the fucking bring da ruckus verse is my favourite GZA verse from 36 chambers, theres not many, but its my favourite...possible including wu tang forever..
Yo, I'm more rugged than slaveman boots
New recruits, I'm fuckin' up MC troops
I break loops, and trample shit, while I stomp!
A mudhole in that ass, cause I'm straight out the swamp
Creepin up on site, now it's Fright Night
My Wu-Tang slang is mad fuckin' dangerous
And more deadly than the stroke of an axe
Choppin through ya back *swish*
Givin bystanders heart-attacks
Niggas try to flip, tell me who is him
I blow up his fuckin prism
Make it a vicious act of terrorism
You wanna bring it, so fuck it
Come on and bring the ruckus
And I provoke niggaz to kick buckets
I'm wettin CREAM, I ain't wettin fame
Who sellin gain, I'm givin out a deadly game
It's not the Russian it's the Wu-Tang crushin
Roulette, slip up and get fucked like Suzette
Bring da fuckin ruckus...
RZA was genius with making the beat switch up around GZA's verse...
Peace
^^I never understood the "Get fucked like Suzette" line.
Was Suzette an old pr0n actress?
"Nobody knows how we moved like
wolves in sheep clothes
producing data
microchips and software
underground and off air
the Land of the Lost
notorious henchmen from the North
striking niggas where the Mason Dixon Line cross"
Dopeness!!!
High ranked officials and armed tanks with missles
blood drizzle, simple fact, you slept on the issue
that before you started jerkin off joysticks and Sega
I was rocking off 100 watt amps in Cerwin-Vega's
I got mouths to feed, unnecessary beef is more cows to breed
No doubt my fav line of his
^ I was just mixin this track on virtual dj...gotta agree.
Same here, just came to post that. Also:
I'm more rugged than slaveman boots, new recruits, I'm fuckin up emcee troops, I break loops and trample shit when I STOMP, a mudhole in that ass cuz im coming straight out the swamp.
I was the thrilla in the Ali-Frasier Manilla.
I told him come back when you're sober
drunk ass punk on a motherfucking hunt for red october
On a man-made lake, there's a sheet of thin ice
Where unskilled skaters, couldn't figure-8 twice
At 16, uncut, direct from the cult
Head on assault, the result, death by the bolt
"the liquid soluble that made up the chemistry
a gaseous element that burnt down your ministry"
but that whole track is a quoteable.
Imagine a rhyme in it's prime from off the baseline
Skyscraper a vertical support the hang time
too many quotables... GZA kills whole albums with one liners...lol a few that i like atm are :
"I Flow like the blood on a murder scene"
"Just consider the unparallel in damage of a natural disaster thats impossible to manage"
"They said his Pirate-Limp gave him away as The Feds rushed him comin through US Customs"
"So we attack this and grab all within reach
Throw scrap back to niggaz perfect your own speech
Shit copper, it aint worth the mic stands
Used by backup singers in Atlantic City Bands"
"you couldnt add it up, if you mastered addition !!!"
i studied a lot of his lines. almost every single one is his best. i think hes greatest lyricist by far. i think a very underrated line by him is
'We draw hit after hit from a royal flush menu
While the dealer promoted the full house venue'
and also
'To check fault in oneself is pure loveliness
You break the mirror that remind you of your ugliness'
'To be blunt, the beef was cooked up like coke goods'-people usually get the metaphor with how beef is used to mean both food and and also it means two people who have a disagreement but most people don't notice the double meaning of blunt. it can mean both to be curt and it's connected with 'coke goods' cuz blunts(marijuana) and coke are both kinds of drugs. u see with gza u have to look deeper. i'll show u how deep he goes.
"It's like a puzzle, all works are like puzzles. Thousands of pieces in a box, and you know how long it takes to put a puzzle together. Each piece, they all help each other, they all connect, they have to be put in the right place and it all makes a picture. I'll have shit on this page, it'll just be two or three lines. I'll have a beginning on this page, or something over here. We were on the road one day, on tour, a couple of years before I did my album. Somethin was on the radio and we went through a tunnel, and the radio went off. I was like, 'So deep it's picked up on radios in tunnels.' At that time you couldn't get shit in tunnels, now you can. That was like one piece of that puzzle.
"See, and I'm humble with it. It's like the ni**a that bought the Marc McGuire ball, he gonna hold on to it. So I held on to it, I wasn't too eager to throw it on anything. I gotta have another piece of that puzzle to go with it. So I said, 'came through with the Wu, slid off on the DL/ low key like sea shells/ I rock these bells, now come aboard,' it's like a train. 'Come aboard, it's Medina bound,' Medina's Brooklyn, Brooklyn bound. 'It's a whole different sound/ a wide entrance, small exit like a funnel/ everything relate, so deep it's picked up on radios in tunnels.' Everything relates - come on board, it's Medina bound. It's a wide entrance - I'm lettin' ni**as in. Everything is like pieces, just like when I say, 'My rhyme great gross weight vehicle combination.' Anybody who has a license and is familiar with it, that's a certain term, Gross Weight Vehicle Combination, for trucks. But I said, 'my rhyme great gross weight vehicle combination/ is too heavy for the Chevys that's chased out the station.'
I'm talkin' 'bout Chevy, car, then I say station, what kind of station? So I say, 'Double edged was the guillotine that beheaded it/ gassed up, fuckin' with some regular unleaded shit.' He's in the station. Everything relates. but now I'm talkin' about guillotines, so I say, 'heads roll,' cause we took heads off, 'heads roll on hillsides behind ropes/ that bind in, now x marks the spot on the scope.' See, now that line right there is way deeper than muhfuckas. I'm talkin' about 'heads roll on hillsides behind ropes,' I'm takin' it back to Europe, Caucus Mountains, and Turkish soldiers who was guardin' the mountain when beasts tried to run out the cages, they took the head. Europe, 'eu' means hill side, and rope means the rope to bind in. That shit is just, you have to be dealin' with what I'm dealin' with to know what I'm talkin' about. The way it's put, only certain people will know or appreciate. Everything relates."
Now watch me blow him out his shoes without clues
Cause I won't hesitate to detonate I'm short fuse
Off "Silverbacks":
I went from the slums of Hell to paradise in Heaven
From a sling-shot to a wall of mac 11's
I drank with the Devil and ate with the Reverand
We talked numbers and I told 'em, that mine was 7
The total amount of hits, behind the collapsed building
That had exploded in a frenzy of killings
Bodies lay near tons of twisted metal
Of a structure and atomic force, it leveled
From the tale of the tape, the product failed in comparison
The weight, the height, the reach, was not a year within
Sight, the significant, difference was the ammo
Wrecking y'all individuals and their man know
Second by second, heat blazed through the night
Leaving a dazzling array of neon lights
The primary reason of mission for them spitting
The firing kept hitting, them dust, they kept sipping
But the informants x-rays gave off electrons
Within a few next days, entire cess gone
Prenticle percisions used to remove the eyelids
Those responsible for my brothers with high bids
Life in the hood is an award winning film
Lived ut by savages who can't escape the realm
A place where the young meet and greet with guns
In the park they interrupt the pure innocent fun
This has always been one of my favorite GZA verses ^^^^^
yeah his "silverbacks" verse is fucking amazing.
I dont know if I could choose a favorite verse, but two of my favorite lines are from "killah hills 10304"
"He tried to smuggle half a key in his left leg/
even underwent surgery/
They said his pirate limp gave him away/
as the Feds rushed 'em/
coming through U.S. Customs"
"He set bombs in bottles of champagne/
So when niggas popped the cork, niggas lost half their brain"
also
"Now look who's on the witness stand signing/
a well-known soprano/
a smash hit from Sammy Gravano"
is pretty funny.
a lot of coke rappers (who are so obviously not still selling drugs, if they ever were) could learn from GZA. instead of acting like you're still in "that life", use the same content, but just tell it as a dope story. Rae does the same thing.
'greeted by thunderstorm applause' thats a great line cuz if u think about it when u hear lots of people clapping it does sound like thunder which just creates so much imagery in very few words and a concise manner yet very creative. 2 many emcees think that u create imagery by using lots of adjectives or being very gory. what bullshit. 'thunderstorm applause' actually sounds like an idiom like 'heart of gold' or 'break a leg'. gr8 line from gr8 verse
"Goliath cutting david's throat..."
"Restaurant's on a stake-out, so order the food for takeout
chaos outside of Sparks' Steakhouse...
In the garment district got it sown like singers...
...now look who's on the witness stand singing
a well known Soprano a smash hit from Sammy Gravano"
u also forgot smash hit. a song is called a hit when it does well in the charts.
also that leads nicely on too the next lines which follows an american football theme.
A smash hit from Sammy Gravano
here's the plan minimum for the hit , two hundred grand
Half time at the game blastin niggaz out the stands
The sharp-shooters hit the prosecutor, judges are sent
u can see the obvious ones like 'half time' 'stands' and 'game' but also ones like a 'smash hit' can b a big tackle (its call the way 'smash hit' fits both the singer and american football extended metaphors) and in american football i think a shooter is another name 4 a gunner.
Sammy Gravano was a mobster/hitman and sharp-shooter is a reference to Basketball not Football but I see what you mean
ok thanks. sorry i dont much about american sports. i just looked at this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunner_(American_football) and it said 'In American football, a gunner, also known as a shooter or kamikaze' but i dont think 'smash hit' would work if its basketball cuz basketball is a non-contact sport.
nonono. you're missing it. sammy the bull was a snitch. a rat. a stool pigeon. a canary. a singing bird. when someone gets caught by the police or the feds and snitches to get a better deal for themselves (like he did - he went into witness protection). so when someone tells all the gangsters' gangster business to the police or to the federal government, they say "he's singing to the feds" or whatever. singing = ratting or snitching
so on the witness stand in court, there's a "well-known soprano" high profile gangster turned state's (turning state's evidence = becoming a witness, giving testimony on behalf of the federal government against a criminal organization of which the "singer" was once a part) who is singing a "smash hit" by sammy gravano. so basically, the character in gza's story here is doing the same thing sammy 'the bull' gravano did. so this "singer" is "signing" one of sammy's "songs", get it?
since u mentioned breaker breaker do u mean any extended metaphor. cuz that would just b about every song. hes got a baseball metaphor at the end of i gotcha back. his whole verse in investigative reports is an allegory. he has extended metaphors in every song pretty much
Investigative reports would be a good one to look at. Also mic trippin, amplified sample.
on one interview RZA says something like, 'before Eminem came out with that Stan shit, GZA dropped Labels..' saying that concept was rooted already...
I don't get 80% of Amplified Sample, the only GZA track that I can't really find the double entendre or some other very clever shit. It's a very weird verse, since his new album is about space this is kind of funny..
"You remain stuck tryin to figure the shape of space" let's see how he does it lol.
