he didnt assume the role of being hip hops biggest draw, his longevity allowed him to take that posisition!!!!!

staying relevant this long isnt a matter of luck, you know how many emcees must study this niggas career?!?!?!? not only do they fuck with his music, but they marvel at his business model!!!!! he was in the mix when pac, pun, and L were alive, and now more than 10 years later hes still in the mix!!!!!!!

you dont have to consider him the best, or the god emcee, but ima look at you funny if you cant admit the nigga is nice!!!!!! hot music and great business model!!!!!!!

The greats aren't always gonna have a perfect track record, Ali lost fights, Jordan lost games, Federer has thrown away opportunities, Pele failed to win at times etc. etc. It's just about outweighing the bad with the good, which Jay-Z has pretty comfortably done.

Jigga man is fucking incredible, as already stated he embodies everything that is hip-hop. Street cats and hardcore rappers like Raekwon, MOP and DJ Premier still loves his work and give him the credits he deserves at the same time as 16-year old girls with bubblegum in their mouths wouldn't hesitate to throw up the diamond at any given time. that's fucking incredible to pull such a balance act - most rappers that try to pull such a thing gets written off quickly cuz they can't handle it; but Jay always knew how to move with the times and update his sound, which is why he is still relevant and at the top of the charts.

people mention "Reasonable Doubt" and "Blueprint" but the fact is that every single one of Jay-Z's albums is remotely hot and got at least a buch of hot street joints. living legend...

I mean, he could package a blank disc with his name printed on and shit would go platinum. He's on Beatles or U2 level with that shit.

Talking album sales and popularity isn't relevant. Tupac's been dead for more than 10 years and STILL going platinum. I highly doubt jay-z could do that.
