Well, now, I'm in college, about to graduate in the Spring/Summer of 2010 majoring in Geology (pretty much finished, just my math courses to go). I live on my own, I have MONEY in both my checking and savings accounts, a job, etc.
People choose who they want to be in life. You can't blame it on the "Man" and you can't point the finger at God for your troubled life. We are who we choose to be and that's a fact. Yes, it's hard but doable.
Think long-term, not short-term.

and people like TSA and ghostlaced, who need to have an opinion for everything, need to think before they speak. both of you are still kids, and don't have kids.

Blacks in the hood know that selling drugs is wrong and robbing banks is wrong but they do it anyway to get money because they're lazy and they wanna make that fast cash instead of working at a job. Like Check Two said, if you have to start out working at a McDonald's or Walmart, then you do that until you can move on to a better paying job. You can't get a job when you got a criminal record because jobs are skeptical about hiring a criminal. I think that criminals deserve a 2nd chance but most jobs won't give them a 2nd chance and then they end up going back to doing illegal stuff to get money because they can't get a job. So the point is even if you're tired of being poor and you don't wanna work for a low salary because you want fast money, there's no future in doing illegal stuff to get money because you end up in prison or dead. You've seen what happens to criminals when you watch the news and watch movies like Scarface, The Godfather, Heat, Casino, GoodFellas, Get Rich Or Die Tryin, Menace II Society, New Jack City. I don't wanna work for a low salary either but i'd rather do that until i can find a better job than to be sitting in a prison cell or in the cemetary.
Ironman, much respect for getting what you got and working hard for it. I apologize if my generalizations offended. I still do think people make those life altering decisions just to eat. I have an uncle whose 40 now. Last year he had no money for dinner or christmas gifts. He went and sold weed and crack for a few weeks to give his fam what they wanted and deserved and I respect him for it. It goes both ways because I'm sure the people he was slanging to didn't have a happy holidays but thats another topic. Charles Jones I still highly disagree with you homie. I would not call these people lazy, by no means. You raise an interesting point, what do you do with those who want to turn over a new leaf? just tell them to keep trying things'll get better? World dont run on feelings, it runs on money unfortunately. You said it yourself, and I've seen it first hand at jobs, people hate on felons. Are they just "ignant" and lazy and BLACK?
Thats not even an argument. I've heard one side say all these things about their personal life and history of being hit, and arguments for it and the effects is has. And then people against it say, 'it's wrong'. There's nothing inherently wrong in beating a child. You need to have good reasons for it. To take away the right of good parents to hit their child is presumptuous and arrogant.
I think people buy into the bullshit of the 'innocence and fragility' of children. If you treat them like this you treat them not as people, but as your own sentimental fantasy object (Michael Jackson). Beating has been used as disciplinary measure for as long humanity has been around, to make a blanket statement that its always wrong to beat them is just ignorant and intellectually irresponsible.
And yes, in a perfect world parenthood would be privilege, not a right.

are black ppl lazier then need be, yes, but should they be otherwise, only if they're REALLY exceptional, which most of us white or black aren't.
Im not lazy, but i know if i loose a job it will take around 5-7 months to find another one cause im black with no criminal record
once i find that job my co-workers will work like hell to make sure i loose it, i wont be trusted, and supervisors at times can be really racist.
When i do things wrong like other employees, it will never be overlooked or pardoned,
If i call in sick im being lazy, when others do it they need a day off.
look at Obama's presidency. There's ppl in office working to make sure it fails and its a living hell, so what makes you think its different for any other black person getting a job. we're not obama and this presidency has really shined light on how psychotic and hateful white ppl can be. imagine working with them.
anyways, in the end the only black ppl that survive are the cream of the crop or really exceptional ppl, and that isn't the majority of any population.
your only alternative is to go through life with ppl kicking dirt in your face or sell crack.
if i was a black american i would seriously look into the crack option because nothing is worst then working for or with white ppl. im african and plan on leaving here soon, so i dont have to sell crack.
you can decieve yourself and go to college but they don't even hire black pilots, wtf is going to make them hire a black engineer? or a black architect expecially if you go through college learning black ppl are stupider then white ppl, coupled with the other racist ideas outside society has for you to collect, none of them favorable for black ppl. I've began to realize there's almost no point in going to college if you're black other then just to learn, cause your still not going to get hired for shit, i happened to my parents, it'll happen to anyone.

Once again, CharlesJones feels the need to focus on blacks in this discussion as if only blacks sell/use drugs (which clearly isn't true). How about how the drugs got into communities in the first place? Let me give you a hint, black people didn't bring them there. All I'm saying is that people (notice how I said PEOPLE and not [insert race] people) should do what they can to survive as long as it doesn't interfere in the lives of others. I'm not condoning drug abuse and its destructiveness, just making the point that it's important to look at more than the street corners for this issue. Times are rough in America in general, but they're even rougher if you're a black. It has been that way since the existence of America. Now, it might make some of you personally feel better to chalk it up to, "Meh, that's just because black people, as a whole, or just BAD, period," as some of these posts clearly hint at. But to look at one piece of the puzzle, and not examining how the pieces got there to begin with is just insulting to all thinkers. Don't point fingers until you look at the complete picture. This discussion is not for school kids who haven't done more than just see things (as posts in this thread suggest). And yes, open a book or two not authorized by your public school (as the American public school systems have a tendency to only allow one version of history).

I'd also like to clarify that I do not feel that selling drugs is our destiny, we have accomplished so much and that is actually one of the main reasons why I posted in this thread. It seems like people love to highlight our negatives and never our positives.
