It's weird af that the generals NEVER use the elements that got them in the door.
With having the privilege of time passed and music created and released, shouldn't they know by now what the fans want??!
I can understand being an artist that wants to try different things and create different pieces of art but you've all done that over the past 30+ years. You'd think they'd want to end their careers on a high note and the same way they came in.
Like Tyson said "you gotta leave wit the same one that brought you to the dance"
and there it is.
my issue with anything he did after supreme clientele. wheres the freeverse flow in this album. that psychadelic shit is what made supreme clientele top tier. the fact that you didn't know what angle those bars were gonna take. it was so refreshing
and as it pertains to the comparison between ghost and my main man grizzly. lets shy away from that because even though they are the same vein of mc, they both have contrasting mindsets on the sound they deem acceptable. ghost literally is the guy that said he is an R&b dude and that the W was too dark for him lol. grizzly on the other hand was always saying. this shit ain't hard enough. its not gully enough. he wants to up the ante in terms of how grimey ish is.
my point is. yall expecting grit from a dude who is aiming to have more loverboy records and thats why yall dissappointed. if you want that. grizzly is our guy. minus lex diamonds. grizzly gets it and he should be your top choice to go to for that grimey wu shit followed by GZA. but again
what do i know?
Im on my 8th listen of this.
I’ve settled on this being a messy but good Ghostface album.
Calling it Supreme Clientele seems like an act of self harm.
It only detracts from the good points about the album itself.
Odd, odd choice from Ghost.
Promo can go both ways. People gonna not check for this coz of the heat.
And it won’t be remembered fondly, when it would have been otherwise.
bro. darkim be allah who is even a lesser known wu element could produce some of the illest shit for them and i bet you everything. he would be wiling to do it just on the strength of the generals asking him. its very mind boggling if you ask me. wu elements aisde. the brothers are LEGENDS. they have the clout and power to assemble the avengers of producers like premier, havoc, alchemist, DJ MUGGS ETC.
theres no excuse whatsoever for mid tier produced albums by the generals but nooooo ITS ALL RZA'S FAULT LOL
Its a solid album, yes the first supreme clientele has the magic production , seeing Ghost mentioning they gavehim a handfull of beats at that time on a cd he probably had better choice to pick from
But i agree Ghost can do better ill get the CD
take it from someone who has heard a ton of shit rza has vaulted, including some recent works. HE HASN'T. He just doesn't want to. i've heard him channel rzarecter in ways you couldnt even imagine lol.mannnn
let me put it like this, maybe one day his wife wont mind him doing "dark shit" and that day? yall wont be ready. i assure you
Unfortunately this is like wishing on a star. I’m not going to discredit what you’re saying cause you’ve shown & prove that you’re well connected and in the know. With that said what was the last RZA beat that made you say “Woah!”…. These guys are just on a different trajectory at this point in their careers. Looking to make whatever they can before they really have to retire. I’ve listened to this album again in the car 2 more times and I stand by what I said originally. He should’ve never named this SC2. Some of these songs sound better in the whip. This has a mixtape vibe all over it. Someone said he should’ve named this Blue and Cream. I agree. Also the reason you’ll never get abstract rhyming from ghost again is because he doesn’t smoke or do dust anymore. All those rhymes were made under those circumstances. He’s been rapping like D Block ever since Fishscale. Also I thought Jadakiss had a verse on this album lol. I wonder what happened.
I haven't logged into this site in 12 years but after listening to the album I felt compelled enough to login and say... this album sucks.
I can only agree that it seems Ghost's given up and released this mixtape as s cashgrab. The way he hyped this up for years is criminal. This should've never been called SC at all as it only really set it up for failure. The least he could've done is put some effort into it if he really wanted to give it that name. What we have here for all intents and purposes is Set the Tone 2. No stream of conscious style like the original, very little Wu-Tang involvement, no cohesion, no focus. I would give him some grace if it was called something else but even then by its own merits it still would've sucked.
At this stage in his career, I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking but this ain't it at all.
