Look, I sincerely believe a change in music is needed. The value of music is next to nothing. It has seriously devalued to the point artists have to release music for free. I find it insulting that single songs on iTunes are of equal value to a box of paperclips from the dollar shop.
Why is acceptable that a Ferarri costs 250.000 and a Honda only 15k? Why is it acceptable that property in central Manhatten is more expensive than property in the Bronx? Because it's tangible and you simply cannot upload and then download a car and get the same tangible thing. But with music, because it can be digitised, it loses it's value to the point of zero.
Defining this album as a work of art is telling fellow musicians that they must value themselves more than what the market values them at. And it's saying 'hey, your music is a work of art, not a 3 minute piece of recorded zeros and ones fit for our daily data consumption'. Value yourself as contemporary art is valued. See yourself as special and apply models, ideas and concepts that will make your fans and others value you as an artist again.
And I believe that this necessary change must be shaped and executed by the artists, not by the market, which the consumer belongs to. The purpose of this approach was never to alienate the fans or spit in their face or anything of the sort. I'm one of you all. But I felt it was an even more important and more urgent and necessary statement to make, then to simply release this record commercially and treat it like any other album out there. And that's why I said that this wasn't for (About) the fans as much as it is for (About) the benefit of music in general.
Cilva can you define what you mean by not to "release this record commercially"? Will the record be potentially released non commercially by a different method reference your virus scan comment a few weeks ago?

What does that mean? Thats just the format. Thats like saying to a painter 'hey your art isn't just a canvas with some paint on it fit for our daily viewing consumption'.
You're talking shit basically, the beautiful thing about music is that you can listen to it anywhere. The only people this benefits is the musicians, i ain't going for it.
