Asiatic is more exact.
Asia is still the biggest continent on the planet, and it would make more sense to acknowledge the origination of the continents as being from the east (Asia).

The word Asia is indeed said to have it's roots in the Akkadian, but the original word did not, from what I'v read, designate any specific geographical location.
