As great a fighter as GSP is, I don't think he can handle Silva. If a roided up Olympic level wrestler can't beat Silva even while Silva was making it a point to win by submission (for the disrespect that was shown to the Noguiera brothers), then I don't see GSP having any success.
Lately, GSP has only beaten fighters by decision and he was a good deal stronger than the ones he fought against. Silva has a very unpredictable style. You can't train for someone like that (and apparently steroids won't help you to do that either, as Sonnen proved).
I guess I can understand how someone would prefer to watch a fighter with more "flash" in his style than Silva (like Cung Le). But, then again, a fighter like Cung Le is no where NEAR the skill-level of Silva, so I'm easily more amped for a Silva fight than a "Cool spin kick" Cung Le fight given the level of competition they face.
With that said, it's more ENTERTAINING for me to watch a worked fight (like in films, or pro wrestling) than a real one. But a more methodical and unpredictable fight (short or long) that Silva is involved in is much more satisfying at the end of the day for me.
Just my 2 cents.
P.S. There should be no doubt at this point by anyone that Silva is the best pound for pound fighter in the world today.

GSP-Silva. If it happens, I'm there. I don't care if it's in China.
GSP has a lot of dickriders so people try to discredit him as being overrated. He's literally beaten everyone in his entire division worth fighting, BJ Penn twice, Matt Hughes twice, etc. He and Silva are alike, they're tactical fighters.
If you know anything about MMA, watching GSP dismantle his opponents is a beautiful thing. Koscheck fight is a good example. He didn't "finish the fight" but he didn't need to. At no moment in that entire fight was he in danger of losing, he's in complete control at all times.
Anybody complaining that he doesn't "finish fights" is a fan of violence, not a fan of Mixed Martial Arts as a sport.
Silva is an incredible fighter too. It would truly be an incredible match-up, and I can't say in confidence that either fighter would have any distinct advantage, other than the fact that GSP needs to gain weight to compete outside of Welterweight.
Can't wait for it. Dana really wants that fight.

This basically solidifies Silva (Anderson Silva, that is) as best pound for pound fighter. Fedor is the best ever among the Heavyweights, I'll give him that.

It's kind of a lose-lose for Silva, as the Silva haters are pretty wide. When he wins (assuming the fight even happens), the Silva hate train will say, "Meh, but he only won because he's much bigger than GSP. The fact that GSP got out of the first round shows that he is really better overall." And, if by some miracle GSP actually beats Silva they'll be all, "See, told you you Silva wasn't shit! I called it, he was an OK fighter, but overall OVERRATED! This fight proved it!"Quote:

doesn't sound like a pound for pound in the would fighter to me..i never seen another fighter run around the ring not fighting back dodging the whole fight just to hang on to the belt

2 points. First, Werdum beat (and by beat, I mean finished) Fedor in Strikeforce. Fedor by many people is the best P4P fighter in the world. So...now does that mean Werdum can be argued as such? I wouldn't say so. Niether would I say so in the unlikely case of GSP beating Silva. It wouldn't change the fact that Silva wiped out 2 weight classes (and by wiped out, I mean FINISHES in most of the cases. And in some cases, not only finishes, but SPECTACULAR finishes that will be in highlight reels for many years to come).Quote:

GSP I'd say is one of the best fighters out there, but he's not in Silva's league if, for no other reason, he rarely finishes his opponents. You mentioned Silva "running away" in the Maia fight. OK, even if I agreed with that assessment, that's ONE fight. In fact, that was one of the rare fights by Silva that went to decision. He FINISHES his opponents. GSP, not so much. Plus, you have to take into account that he went through 2 different weight classes and smashed the competition. That is a feat that GSP has yet to do (he may be capable of doing that, but hasn't done that yet like Silva has already).
Bottom-line, it's important to compare the fighters in all categories. From their strong points (Silva FINISHING his opponents in creative and dominating ways, or GSP strategically out wrestling proven wrestlers) to their weak points (GSP lack of finishes, or Silva "running away" from Maia). When you do that, it becomes really clear who is the better all around fighter. If it is in fact GSP, he has yet to show as much as Silva has. It's unlikely GSP will beat Silva, but my point was even when Silva does beat him the Silva haters will still downplay the victory. It certainly happened in his last 2 fights despite the fact Silva FINISHED both opponents ("Meh, Sonnen had him beat until Silva got a fluke win." and "Meh, Belfort was washed up anyway, that doesn't really count.")
The Silva hate has become comical at this point. I don't expect that to change even after he beats GSP (if that fight even happens). God forbid that fight be one of Silva's rare decision wins ("Meh, he couldn't finish GSP, so basically GSP is still the better fighter since he survived a fight with Silva.")

both silva and gsp have around the same amount of wins by decision
silva only fought 2 mediocore light heavy weight fighters
forrest griffin ( came in with a 2 fight loosing streak and still in my mind sucking)
and james irvin
to say he wiped out 2 weight classes is false
and to say gsp dosnt finish fights while aderson silva does is false
gsp 2 losses 8 decisions
silva 4 losses 7 decisions
both fighters are #1 pound for pound fighter in their weight class
werdum wasn't in the top 10 fighters in heavy weight when he fought fedor
when you have 2 #1 pound for pound fighters fighting some one will lose that title
maia inst a good fighter at all he is not a puncher all he does is try to get the take downs and get a submision
to out class is not to walk around the ring putting your head in his and start making funny faces lol thats all siva did the first 2 rounds was dance a jshake in front of him like he was roy jones jr with no skills at punching lol
and the last 3 rounds was like watching a chicken with his head cut off ( i just got done watching it to refresh my memory ) ...half the crown left the building demanding refund ...i would be pissed if i spent 1000$ to see silva ko some one but only got him running away the whole time not one blow in the last 3 rounds....the #1 most disappointing fights ever broadcast

you know fedor isnt #1 pound for pound any more...if you get beating thats over.. 2 in the row i would like to him fight one or 2 more fights so he can reclaim that title and then retire and go out on top
