I've thought about making a thread similar to this before. Its not really politically correct to say it the way CharlesJones did (thats part of another problem in todays society, but thats for a different thread), but that doesnt change the fact that he has good points.
I've always wondered why a lot of black men act the way they do. I think in the end a lot think they dont have anything, they never will, except being "hood", so the more hood the better.
Education really is the key. Educated black men are ripped on for being uncle toms or whatever, thats bullshit. Because someone wants to dress nice and go to college they get called names.
There are complaints that african americans get the short end of the stick on a lot of stuff, and that is valid. But the only way to change that is for the african american to have a bigger stronger voice. No one is really going to listen to thugged out looking, unintellegent sounding people (reguardless of the color of the person, it just so happens blacks are personafied like that more so in peoples streiotypes).
Look at Obama. He's a proud black man, educated, speaks intellegently, hes captivating people of all kinds. Hes making strides for a race through intellegence.

american factory jobs were shit, meat packing plants (everybody remembers them from 6th grade social studies), and lots of other bad paying jobs with terrible working conditions.
its only with the rise of a middle working class, that eventually has power in government..i.e. unions ect. that a minimum wage arises. which is much better than my friends in the ivory coast are making picking diamonds out of rivers.

On the flipside though, for you to bring up the point in the movie Sunset Park, you should've also finished his reasoning for not wanting to go to college. Fredro stated in the movie that he has a neighbor who goes to work everyday, putting in 12 hours a day and another neighbor who sits at home all day and gets high. They both live in the same building though, that's what makes him feel like no matter what he does, there's no hope so fuck it.
You also have to take into account that negativity encourages negativity. If you were to have constantly hung out around people with no ambition then you'd eventually have none either. Same thing applies if you were to hang out in a crowd where everyone was college bound, you'd do your best to make it to college too. It's a sad state of affairs but in the end it's up to the person to make it for themselves.
