as far as soundscan and riaa go, they don't count mom and pop shops if i'm not mistaken. so there is a margin of error in there numbers. although they are the official governing body of sales, can it be assumed then that they are giving us an educated estimate of the true sale numbers? therefore, if there guesstimate is off by a couple of thousand units, whose to say an OB4CL isn't already plat? just unofficially plat. cuz i know i bought my purple tape from the store around the way, as did a few others in line in front of me. just some food for thought.

you are correct, soundscan doesn't count all stores, but soundscan wasn't around in 1995 when cuban linx dropped. riaa counts units shipped. and if there were only let's say 800,000 units shipped total over the life in cuban linx, then it could not have sold 1 million to go platinum. on the other hand, it might not even have sold 500,000 to go gold. those other units could still be sitting on store shelves (although that is unlikely in this case.
