Hey, I like those Swizz party tracks when I'm in the car.
I only vote for something being absolute shit when it is, I can still listen to some of the tracks on that RR album.
Each to their own, but 1 Luv is great.

NY State Of Mind 4/5? Halftime 3/5? Memory Lane 3/5? One Love 2/5?
I believe everyone should be entitled to their own opinion...... except you.
^^ I don't think it's overrated, but I do think it's the kind of album that kids are afraid to call anything other than classic. If you love it then all good, but if you don't then you can't call it classic just to fit in with everyone else.
To me it's straight 10/10 classic though. I've been listening to it for over a decade and still going....
Tell me something I don't know. You cats are so repetitive
(Yawn)
This from the man who made the 'All the rappers I can name' thread.
Yeah I was bored then and that was in one day
I posted This Illmatic thread ages ago
Utter stupidity can be remembered for years.
Yeah I know your the expert in that area
9 ... 10 is perfection so it cant be done
this album is in my top three: any order
Nas- Illmatic
Big Pun- Capital Punishment
Raekwon- Cuban Links
Peace
Freeze
I believe that if you care about real Hip Hop, that it is essential that Illmatic is in your collection.
Incredible album, timeless beats and rhymes with some of the illest producers ever, it represented a time that is lost, it represented East Coast coming out hard and hitting and not letting the G-Funk era take over, it represented a time of skills and love for the rap game.

i know this album should be 10/10, but i give it 9/10 because i was not feeling to production..
Lot of hostility in thread. Illmatic was a classic album but not my fav my nas. I like it was written the best.
Best album of all time.
If this isn't a 10, i don't know what is.
google/10
Illmatic is the only good album he's done LOL. What a shame too because Nas is a great mc. The reason i don't like his albums is because of beats. He has the same problem picking good beats just like other good mc's like Ras Kass, Canibus, AZ, Nature, Cormega, Tragedy Khadafi.
damn was reading that XXL story on "Illmatic" yesterday and haven't bumped it for a while but that whole LP is inprinted in my mind to death, bar-for-bar, beat for beat, sample for sample... illest ever in one way, alot due to fact that it's 10 PERFECT songs - not a weak lyric or beat is nowhere to be seen and it's just a blessing to listen to it.
"Illmatic" is the curse and the blessing for NaS though; he delivered what is considered the best hip-hop album of all time and was hailed as the king for it and therefore nothing he's delivered after it, though alot of it being quality, has been able to live up to the expectations.
I agree with your 2nd paragraph. He hasn't lived up to expectations after Illmatic. He'll do a few good songs but i can't listen to his albums anymore. If he would do a album with just beats from DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, that would be ill. He needs to make that shit happen and stop getting beats from these wack producers he's been dealing with. I wonder what happened to the album he was gonna do with only beats from DJ Premier. I would like to see that come out.
The World Is Yours remix is my shit. I love that song and the video is gutter. LOL@white dude got robbed by those black dudes hahahahahaha. LOL@white dude walking outta the alley with 2 prostitutes.
that is a banger
This is in my top 5 list!
album's classic, I wish there was more albums like this one, only 10 tracks but every one of them is perfect.
THE Definition and clear pinnicle of 90's hip hop.
Hip Hop's pound for pound greatest of all time. Sadly, it will never be duplicated.
For all you people saying "it was 2 short!!!!", would you rather have a heavily bloated album padded with filler just so you save money? Or would you rather have nine tracks of pure raw brilliance that leaves you feeling fulfilled afterward? I know what I'd take.
10. Just a classic in my eyes.
Album is good but I think that "Stillmatic" and "It Was Writter" are much better. Illmatic - 7/10
I personally give it a 10. I can accept it being rated as a 9 as there are some flaws, but only in the production! Nas's skill on the mic will never happen again, his rhymes are perfect and you can't find one screw up at all in any of his verses. The world is yours instrumental is legendary already along with Represent. Only track I was not feeling was (call me crazy) NY state of mind. That's it, all other songs are flawless. 9 classics packed into 39 minutes.
10.just classic...
GOAT Album.
Life's a Bitch, The World is Yours, Represent, It Ain't Hard to Tell, Memory Lane, One Love, One Time 4 Your Mind, Halftime, NY State of Mind.
those are my favorite joints......wait thats the whole album, i can listen to this album forever and ever.
