Trump has essentially been banned from the internet except for a Russian app.
Big tech is fast tracking censorship in the wake of this Capitol fiasco the same way the patriot act was pushed after the twin towers oh and in the same week Facebook are forcing whatsapp users to hand over their data to Facebook or forfeit using the app lol
People should have been using signal years ago anyway.

I doubt it goes anywhere but some Congress people wanted to go after the media conglomerates that carry Foxnews, OAN and other channels like that. Twitter is not just a private company and it’s ridiculous to see them that way. They are essentially media at this point and need to be regulated as such. Twitter, Facebook, youtube are all extremely powerful platforms that can direct and change public opinion and it’s extremely dangerous to have them going rogue on free speech.
You don't have the right are shouldn't expect to have someone provide you an platform for your speech. Think of it as a letter to editor in a newspaper. They have the right to print what they want. A website makes money on advertisement the same and they have to do what is in the best interest.

Facebook, twitter and YouTube can determine elections on their own and it happened in Australia in the last federal election so of course they have to provide an impartial stance. It's also not unconstitutional to ban people and the only entity that is constitutionally obligated to anything is the government. we're not going to have any real friction in government after Trump. Everything will be theatrics. The 'radical left' will be melted into goo soon and a bunch of industry plan radical lefters will emerge and the trump movement is too dependent on a singular person to last. 20 years and something else will happen but we're about to enter a long stretch of lethargy and decline.

Realistically this is the tip of the iceberg going forward. The access to data and advanced technology these companies have is unprecedented. facebook has 2.7 billion users, that's like half the adults on earth.
The technology will change life regardless, but we need benevolent guardians of it. I doubt they will come in the form of monolithic corporations or governments.
People don't want to hear that this requires radical changes though.
Ultimately these companies will have the power to track your every movement, health and emotional state, predict behaviour and influence it on a personal level.
But yeah a government regulating that stuff is not necessarily better, look at how they use tech in China. The problem is political discourse is always reactionary, we'll be worrying about this shit after it's happened a few years from now.
