your right, pandemic. i remember the story want horrible and the villain was cool. i guess it was the whole international batman thing that just put me off. i feel like im committing comic blasphemy by not buying a batman title at the moment. lol. but since its not bruce, i dont feel too bad.
and i was getting all star. but damn, that shit is wack. lees art is great at times, but its one of the worst things i think miller has written. at least of the miller stuff ive read.
^^^you might like the streets of gotham series...the villains in that have been black mask, zsasz, firefly, man-bat...and the art is great.
the international batmen is one of those bits of 50s-60s batman continuity morrison brought back...which from people i've talked to irl is the main criticism. at the shop i go to, everyone i've talked to hates what morrison's doing, but somehow batman and robin sells out the day it comes in.
has anyone been reading sam kieth's arc in batman confidential? i'll probably check that out in trade.
all star's nuts but i think lee's art alone is worth the price.
wtf wow
yo man, SHIELD is lookin crazy.
i read nemesis #1 at the shop...mcniven's golden and whoever colored the book killed it but millar is officially a hack now. he's done all this shit before like 10 years ago...even by his standard this is mindless and superficial.
no offense dusk, i see that you must've enjoyed it lol
oh and NA 63...mike mckone's art was fucking nice! i think the colorist helped bunches but i've never seen his layouts or figure work look this good. kudos lol
i didnt/couldnt take it seriously..eloels, its over the top like OML and thats what i like about it..but its more of a laughing at him (MIllar) thing...plus the sig went with gunshowers, eloels. and McNiven's worse art is still better than most peoples. as for NA, ya i was worried about mckone but he slayed it, i just wish there was more going on story wise...just as the art got consistent, the story got meh.
^^^isn't next issue the last issue (of this volume, lol)...i agree with you on the story, but i enjoy the luke cage-jessica jones dynamic and the clint-bobbi dynamic...it looks like mckone was referencing idris elba for cage lol
I agree with pandemic the colorists really killed nemesis. Did everyone read the new GL? Pretty good. I find it funny that John just adds powers to people has he goes along!!! I did find it very entertaining though. I picked up the last two issues of amazing spidey yesterday but haven't had a chance to read them yet. I haven't picked up any spidey for a while but they got such high praises on IGN I thought I'd try it out. What's Shield all about? Is it out now?
shield is apparently about the secret history of the marvel universe with roles for dudes like imhotep, isaac newton and da vinci as well as obviously galactus and celestials and tony stark's and reed richards' fathers...imo it looks like a cross between planetary and LOEG set in the marvel universe. it comes out next month or may i think.
if someone can find 'the losers vol 5' for cheap, buy it and i'll cop it from you...it's going for over 100 some places lol
I'm really start to get into weeklys now. I just started get back into comics about 6 months ago and was reading alot of trades but now I find myself buying more and more weeklys!! I was just wondering if anyone knows if it's an ok time to jump into Uncanny X-men and New Avengers or are they in the middle of a story arc?
new avengers is ending within the next issue or two and will be back with a new #1 along with avengers, secret avengers and avengers academy
uncanny x-men is atrocious right now and plus it's about to enter into the 'second coming' crossover...you might just want to wait until that's done and for the inevitable 'relaunch' or 'new direction'...or buy something good like scalped or secret warriors lol
i think i'm going to scale back my weekly purchases, i find trades as a whole to be more satisfying reading.
^^ lol alright I'll stay away from x-men!! I was going to give it a chance because I used to really enjoy it but I'll hold off until the relaunch. I read a bunch of New Avengers trades building up to and including civil war ( the public library was buying them!!) and I liked them but again I'll wait till the current story arc is over.
I've read the first 2 volumes of Scalped...it's awesome. I have volume 3 and 4 to read still. I also got volume 1 of Secret Warriors. I'll try and get those read this weekned!!
What weeklys do you consistently buy? Right now I'm getting BN series, GL, GLC, Batman & Robin, and just started picking up Amazing Spidey.
ur weeklys sound good so far, get on warriors for sure and punmax.
^^ I've been debating whether or not to get into Pun Max. I loved the Ennis run. I noticed it's only at issue 4 or 5...is it worth getting them all or just jumping in? My local store has all older issues for 5 bucks...seemed pretty steep that's why I stayed away.
2 recommendations for warriors!! I'm now super pumped to hit up volume 1!!
wairrors is my favorite marvel comic runnin, and the kingpin arc that aaron just finished is dope..get the trade and jump on now.
I went to a BBQ tonight and this one dude I met was really hyping up Deadpool. I think I'll get come of the Cable Deadpool series. He said it was lots of fun. Anyone else have any Deadpool recommendations or ones to stay away from?
yes deadpool is a must. I found cable+deadpool very enjoyable. Id say start with that cause thats what I did and now im a deadpool stan probably for life
http://ifanboy.com/comics/dc_comics/...over-large.jpg
btw..i picked this up...out of the blue, and i dug it quite a bit.
is that brendan mccarthy art? is that sid vicious? wtf dusk tell me more lol
i thought you were a fan of the current deadpool series; i second the cable-deadpool recommendations-- they are repackaging the whole series into 3 giant trades, the first one came out last month and collects the first 18 issues:
Deadpool & Cable: Ultimate Collection Book 01 TPB
oh and i saw this and it made me laugh:

lmao^^
and i was a fan of the current DP...but as of right now its stale, so i dropped it. as for the hellblazer issue..its simon bisley on art and cover..and ya thats Sid..eloels thats y i bought it.
is bisley painting the interiors or penciling? how long has he been drawing hellblazer? i might have to cop that, i've been a bisley fan since lobo and the first batman/judge dredd crossover
So I took the Siege plunge today and bought issue 1,2 and 3. Can it be read on it's own or are there some tie-ins I should get?
you should definitely get the dark avengers and new avengers tie ins. without them, you can read it on your own but it seems very 2-dimensional and lacking in context imo. the dark avengers tie-ins in particular give you crucial background on the sentry.
^^thanks Pandemic. I'm getting back into the comic scene full swing!! I stopped collected about mid 90s. A friend I met through my wife is a collector and got me to read Sinestro corp war and since then I went to reading a bunch of trades and now I'm visiting the Comic Book Shop like twice a week picking weeklys up...I'm hooked again!!
Just finished Secret Warriors volume 2 needless to say I will be buying volume 2 tomorrow!!
vol. 2 is not as good as it crosses over with dark avengers a little, but stick with it, the current arc wake the beast is even better imo
ya id say that^
and sorry panda...idk much about blazer...just picked up that last one cuz it looked awesome...pretty sure its painted.
glad to see you took the siege plunge, 9th. in my opinion its one of the best crossovers in the last couple years, easy.
the main story is just the main battle, so it doesnt get too in depth, just straight banging.
but the tie ins really add a great element to the main story (except maybe siege:embedded). you get to see different personal sides to the battle in some tie ins, and whats going on on the other side of asgard in others. all in all, the creators seem to be on the same page, and its making for a really good meta-human battle. and unlike some company wide events, siege has a feel of real importance in the marvel u.
my opinion on siege is not the popular one, by the way. lol. but blackest night has me yawning. sinestro. great. (yaaaaaawwwwnnn). and why bring back barry allen just to give him a blue ring and make him quite possibly the gayest character running around the story. bad move. but other than that and the fact they want to drag it on for so long, its still good stuff. but im steppin off when "the brightest day" starts. d-o-n-e.
^^ I agree and disagree with your thoughts on BN...I love the storyline and the art but I do find it drawn out. I think it's not the number of issues but the long wait between issues for the main series.
Thanks for the Siege input...I'll pick up the Avengers stuff today.
i disagree with everything being said about BN
^^ elaborate Dusk.
I read the first five issues of Pun Max. I like the new Kingpin origin. Can't wait for the Bullseye run. I stil like the Ennis run better but Aaaron definitely does a good job. Very entertaining and continues to depict Punisher the way he should be...now if only we could a Punisher movie done right!!
i think its superb, and any hiccups in the writing or structure are minute enough to forget em.
man, i dont know. blackest night started so damn strong with that black hand prelude issue where he kills his family and himself. but now towards the end, all these "major happenings" last 1 issue.
kyles dead. for 1 issue.
guys a red lantern. for 1 issue.
parallax comes back and takes over hal. for 1 issue.
black lantern spectre attacks. for 1 issue.
black lantern anti-monitor attacks. for 1 issue.
im not saying its not good or entertaining, cause it is. but there is no sense of real danger for these characters. and blue lantern flash is just really wack to me.
if they shortened it up to say a 6 issue mini and limited crossovers, then i think the pacing would be better. but as it is its good, but not great, in my meaningless opinion.
switching gears.
i did read nemesis #1 and it was decent. the story was just kinda getting things geared up. but the art was GREAT. great premise too.
the newest scalped was something else. it was just like "WHAT!?!?". best series running.
and another siege tie in that has really nothing to do with the main story is the mighty avengers one. you see the rest of the team get together to fight the thunderbolts in their rag, but its really just a hank pym issue with really no bearing on the asgard situation. dark wolverine is kinda like huh??
but new, dark & initiative along with thor and thunderbolts all add a depth to the main story. after all the bad editorial decisions marvels made in the last year, it seems the creators are on the same page with this one. for the most part.
the problem is DC is plagued with shitty consequential crossovers and huge arcs where people die forever or w.e and then its reversed...and if we're talkin about big things for the GL universe, how bout the shit that Ganthet revealed in 7? and the whole concept of a white lanter aswell.
the siege hasn't captivated me like that. dark wolverines seige issues arent even that important to the main story. i recently started fukkin wit frank millers "dark knight universe" just finish the dark night returns next is all star batman and robin boy wonder vol.1
