That is exactly the point duke. Exactly. Mankind has turned into a disease upon itself and the planet. The Galactic Alignent does mark, not only the beginning of a great awakening, but also the return of, "The Children of Light", "The Ancient Ones", "The Master Builders", "The Gods" of the ancient traditions. If you look in the right places, in literature and the world, you see that the alignments of various monuments with stars and star systems, or the alignment with the sun during a solstice is no accident, but a well formed living key of knowledge.
A lot of people think that the secrets are buried in the numbers themselves when they measure these phenomena, but in cases like Ley Lines, Crop Circles, The Hollow Interior of The Earth, The Nazca Lines, measurements and numbers are tinker toys because the real mystery lies in how to align oneself with the energy itself, or to simply reach said destination, or both.
I'm not saying there won't be ANY destruction, because I imagine that there will have to be some, considering the great evils that encompass the world that have to be washed away. It won't be complete disaster though, because Man is and always has been something much more. So much more, that our own potentials have been locked away as the stuff of fantasy and delusion.

But in seriousness, the ancient people were extremely accurate astronomers, things do happen in cycles. This is a major point in the cycle of humanity, and my guess is something will happen.
Something always happens though. If we all focus on a date around the world odds are that something disastrous will be done by someone attempting to fulfill the prophecy. My guess? Al Quaeda or Iran will use a nuclear weapon against a western nation or Israel. There will be a non nuclear war following that, conspiracy nuts will be like "told you so" and I'll be like "they did it on purpose to freak us out."

yeah...it's an interesting thing to consider, how when ETs look at the human race, they're looking upon us as ONE. they don't see individuals. the ONE is all that matters. i've been striving to see things from that perspective on a daily basis for the past year or so.
i agree Pope...2012, if anything, will be about ancient knowledge reemerging, and it will probably have a lot to do with us raising our self-awareness as members of the galactic community.
last weekend i was in Macon GA and we visited the "burial mounds" of the Mississipian people. they had this one mound that was like a rounded pyramid almost and it's entrance was perfectly aligned with the sun. you could enter through a corridor and inside was a ceremonial area where the natives would sit in a circle around the head of an eagle carved three-dimensionally out of the earth. i wondered what kind of beings they were in contact with, if any...
